I was watching TV the other night and saw a show that said, "People who play an instrument are more likely to excell academically than people who don't play anything at all."
I thought, "excelling academically is basically another term for 'smart'."
So when I thought of smart, I thought of Hubbers!
Which leads me to my questions...
Do you play an instrument? If so, what do you play? What is your favorite piece of music to play?
I play trumpet, and my favorite piece of music to play is the Zanzibar trumpet solo by Freddie Hubbard.
Your turn!
The flute, piccolo and the baritone sax. As far as pieces I love to play; Greensleeves Rhapsody on flute and piccolo and as far as the sax I love all the pieces I've played because its a dominant background instrument in jazz.
I play drums: snare, set (well, used to, I had to sell mine), and hand drums. I also sort of play piano, and play harmonica. I used to play handbells until my wrists gave out.
My favorite type of music to play on drums is orchestra accompaniment. When I was in college, I'd accompany the choir on various pieces, on snare and cymbals mostly.
I have written a few songs, just the basic tune and words, but nothing major. Well, I wrote the words to the school song for my elementary school when I was in third grade, but other than that nothing that has been published.
Well, I play at the guitar. I use it to relax, so my 'favorite' is everything on the favorites list of my MP3 player, a little bit of everything.
I play the piano, I have a beautiful white grand piano,it is magic.
I wouldn't exactly refer to myself as a musician, per se, but I love to play around on the guitar for my own pleasure.
I can fake many rock songs quite well - good enough for a campfire, anyhow.
She's dancing to my mooosic~

ROFL frogdropping what type of sticks? Haha Roobee love the cow, boy he can move can't he?
Used to play the violin in high school. I loved playing "Winter" by Vivaldi
If trying to "write" music on the PC counts, I do that now and again - actually finished one composition with my mother (she wrote the lyrics and I put the music and computer singer to it)
I learned on the flute, but I'm not especially good with it. Same with the piano (self taught). I enjoy playing Fur Elise on the piano
I play guitar and keyboard and I play both and the dummy level.
ha! does rock band count? I have played the flute and taught myself to play bits and pieces on the piano.
I am a great singer, how about we form a band.....we will rock the house down...I just need to spray paint a black strip down the centre back of my hair and we will be hot to trot guys.(blondie)
I am a great pianist. Plus a singer...I would do your band great justice I think
P.s Can dance too ROFL
Wooo Hoooooooo oh yea. Am going straight to the salon to get my hair done........I will bring my pole too for my pole dancing.....I am now officially a rocker ROFL. Line up folks if you would like an autograph. I will be on the next plane to your country. Ummm...which country is it ???
Hey you really play a piano... I read your earlier post now.. Good to know..
Yes I honestly do. I have a beautiful grand piano sitting behind me. My grandfather was a pianist who played in the US for a living, he jammed with Louie Armstrong, and many other great legends when he was alive. We all have followed his footsteps.
I've played Trombone, Baritone, and Tuba(Tuba mainly). I was in my high school marching band, I loved it. I don't play anymore, but I really miss it, Thanks for bringing back some good memories:)
Yes Roobee I love Louie too "Oh What A Wonderful World".
Abhitgo lol I try my best..
I never heard of Hello Chollie how does that go, can u send me a demo recording..'play the instrument of women'...oh indeed you do, indeed you do.
I play the Piano and unfortunately I have so many favorite pieces to play I could name them all.
Wow AE two pianisits....I just knew it
You and me I reckon we could reinvent Abba. Can you sing???
practice this one AE
I dont wanna talk
About the things weve gone through
Though its hurting me
Now its history
Ive played all my cards
And thats what youve done too
Nothing more to say
No more ace to play
The winner takes it all
The loser standing small
Beside the victory
Thats her destiny
I was in your arms
Thinking I belonged there
I figured it made sense
Building me a fence
Building me a home
Thinking Id be strong there
But I was a fool
Playing by the rules
The gods may throw a dice
Their minds as cold as ice
And someone way down here
Loses someone dear
The winner takes it all
The loser has to fall
Its simple and its plain
Why should I complain.
But tell me does she kiss
Like I used to kiss you?
Does it feel the same
When she calls your name?
Somewhere deep inside
You must know I miss you
But what can I say
Rules must be obeyed
The judges will decide
The likes of me abide
Spectators of the show
Always staying low
The game is on again
A lover or a friend
A big thing or a small
The winner takes it all
I dont wanna talk
If it makes you feel sad
And I understand
Youve come to shake my hand
I apologize
If it makes you feel bad
Seeing me so tense
No self-confidence
But you see
The winner takes it all
The winner takes it all......
I always wanted to play the maracas...how hard can it be to go out there and shake 'em around a bit?
I play piano a little, and I can sing, but only when no one is around. I get nervous when I think someone might actually hear me.
My mother is a part-time professional singer (it's bloody badly paid, though!). She also plays the piano. All 4 of us learned the piano, and one of my sisters and I learned the violin, my other sister the flute, and my brother the trombone.
Haven't touched one in years but I played classical guitar and self-taught keyboard.
At one stage my little brother was learning how to play the clarinet and he'd try to play along with me when I took my guitar out. It usually sounded like classical guitar accompanied by a dying donkey. When he broke his clarinet it was the best thing that could happen to music.
I play guitar and sing, I have a 1977 Martin D28 that I love. My son plays guitar and sings, my daughter, drums, Guitar and vocals as well.We also have a piano, but no serious players yet.
I've been playing guitar since about 1980 (had one years experience 29 times)and started playing banjo a couple of years ago. I can just about do a pretty mean "Duelling Banjos :-) )
I also enjoy percussion, and play taiko and the djembe drum.
You probably haven't heard of Taiko.
This is a Japanese art form which is a combination of percussion, dance, and martial arts. It certainly is good to keep you fit!
I play with a Taiko group in Hobart. Here's a clip of some of our group performing at a recent Taiko festival in Melbourne. After the kids intro section, the precision you'll see is fairly awesome.

This is a free form jam session from workshop I attended a little while ago. (No, you won't see me drumming - I took the film :-)

I hope you can see why Taiko is somewhat addictive. (We build our drums out of wine barrels, after we drink the contents)
Cheers,
Eric G.
I use to play the flute now a keyboard, lol my sons play electric, bass, classical and acoustic guitars plus keyboard
I had to keep them busy n out of mischief
hehe
Koh Nee Chee Whaaaa O Yea!!
I am a Master of the Art of Playing the Fool...
I am happy to audition for you..
Argh re gar toe
Omg we have some really talented Hubbers, it figures as a lot of artistic people play some kind of instrument as well as write, a lot of piano players too, that is so cool guys
I am a singer-songwriter and my main instrument is the guitar. I don't have a single favourite song so can't answer that but as covers some of the songs I like to play are Stand By Me, Let It Be, Horse With No Name, Redemption Song and Keep on Rockin`in The Free World.
I mess with the piano and the guitar - haven't got far with either
Drums.
I like to try and copy Mitch Mitchell (Jimi Hendrix) and Jon Bonham (Led Zeppelin).

Why did you stop playing a musical instrument? If you have previously learned an instrument, but have stopped playing - why did you stop? Do you miss it? What could inspire you to pick it back up?

I'm just wondering how many hubbers can play musical instruments? What instruments do you have? How many instruments can you play?Have you have formal lessons, or are you self taught?OK, I'll start of by saying that I've been playing guitar for about 30 years.I've had one years experience 30 times...
