    Good question.

Simple answer: my first hub was on the Semmering railway (a mountain railway built around 1850 generally considered as the first real mountain railway of the world).

Carl Ritter von Ghega was the chief engineer of this project and he was featured on an Austrian banknote for decades.

Since I had no clue what picture I should take for my profile I just went with the picture of Ghega from the old banknote (which was of course replaced by the Euro years ago).

I chose mine because it's (I think) a pretty picture, and it's of Earth (who doesn't like the Earth?  smile) but it has the whole ocean, sunlight, clouds, element in it too.  The strange thing (for me) is that I hate the color, light blue in just about any shade.  hmm.    On the one hand, it's not male or female.  On the other, the picture is kind of feminine one (I think).  Just a good combination of elements (although at this point I'm sick of it and ready to dump it soon  smile  ).

Do some research about where I live, and that will explain my avatar smile

Here's the true story (source: http://www.austinscaravans.com.au/twotas/):
Early Tasmanian folklore has it that in 1842, Tasmania's then King, King Wilbert the (1st) from Burnie, and his wife Isabella, gave birth to a baby. Sadly this child was born with two heads, hence he was named Prince William-Herbert- one name for each head.

Of all the tragedies, poor Isabella survived the birth, but died months afterwards from the shock and complications.

In 1864 Prince William-Herbert was crowned as the 3rd King of Tasmania with the royal title King Wilbert II.

King Wilbert II lived until his late 30's and in that time married and fathered 5 children, all of whom were born with two heads. With two heads came two brains, which meant Tasmanians doubled their I.Q. and became "Twice as Smart".

Through the years it became less and less socially acceptable to sport two heads and a decision was made to start removing one. This is the reason many Tasmanians sport a scar on their shoulder.

As Tasmanians travel the fair land of Australia and even the world, many people stop them and say, "show me your scar", and many are happy to oblige, being very proud of their heritage.

There has been a significant advantage to having one head removed in that we Tasmanians have had a choice as to which one would be removed and the result is a State of Australia with significantly more attractive and well presented personages of the majority of our residents. Many of our neighboring State's residents are not so fortunate and regrettably have to sport such an array of nature's disappointments.

The legacy of the two brains still lives on and the people of Tasmania are acknowledged almost world wide as being very bright, hence the slogan:

"Two Headed Tasmanians - Twice as Smart"

or the more familiar phrase in other lands
"Two Heads Are Better Than One"

    lol lol

    1. earnestshub profile image85
earnestshubposted 13 years agoin reply to this

Victorians used to hunt Tasmanians for the second head. Stupid laws have been introduced in Tasmania to stop this sport.

I guess that I had better explain mine...

I started off on hubpages with a picture of my face, but started feeling a little insecure about it for some reason... so rather than create an alter-ego.... I thought that I would tease people with a picture of the back of my head. At least then they can see a part of me, and the rest they can guess...

I actually have a soft spot for the photo too. It was taken in a natural state (I didnt know it was being taken) whilst I was looking at the New York skyline from the top of the Rockefeller (sic.) building last year.... you can see the empire state building at the back. The light is fantastic too, taken at the the start of dusk..... I have very fond memories of my first trip to New York.

When I was browsing for hubbers, I was really intrigued with Eric Graudins' photo so when he explained it here, it was even more intrigued.

Well anyway, I chose this photo of mine because I have more of a listening ear than a knowing heart or mind. I tend to listen or read more than write a hub. When I did, a lot of people have been reacting way fast, and negatively. So it took me several months before I could get on my knees and probably write another one.
