Is Hate mail common here at HP?

I received my first hate mail telling me I needed to "stop wasting everyone's time in answers" a few days ago.  Curious if this is common.

I have never received hate mail at Hub. You just got a bad apple. Consider the source and ignore it.

That is awful!! I hope you've reported it to Hub Pages - they do take issues such as hate mail very seriously.

I have to say that it's not common at all on this site. 99.99% of the folks are warm, friendly and very, very supportive! Ignore this bullying, sh---- head and enjoy your time on the site! Hope things work out for you!!

Checking your profile, it looks like you have been on HupPages for close to two years and you just received your first hate mail. That probably tells you something right there. Just ignore it and move on.

I am fairly new but so far I have found hubbers to be very supportive.  I have flagged a couple of things that have concerned me within the suggested guidelines.  As previously suggested flag the comments.  There really is no need for rudeness and unkindness.  I am now a fan and following you!  10K people can't be wrong as "they" say:-)

sometimes trolls abound no matter where you go - just ignore them and don't let their pettiness bring you down.  Sometimes people who dislike something you stand for feel the need to act stupid - that's not on you it's on them.  No it doesn't happen often - thankfully! smile

I have never had such an experience, atleast not yet. I would not say this is common by any means. It's best to just ignore.

I have received some heated comments, but never hate mail. Most people here are cavil as long as stay out of the Christian forms...It can get real ugly there!

Seriously?  That is ridiculous - ignore it and enjoy.  Please report it to hubpages staff.  We need to keep the site positive  - which is hard given what goes on in the forums ;-)

No, I have never had any hate mail.  I had two questionable comments on hubs I wrote so I just deleted them.  Please don't let this person get to you, report them right away.  They have no business telling you this.

Like most of the people here are saying, no it is not common. Also I agree you just got someone with a problem and took it out on you. There was a person following me from question to question a couple months ago and voting down my answers when it wasn't even his question.

Fortunately, HP can track the IP address of these people if it is necessary.

Like you, I signed up for HP, then wasn't active in it for a long time. I've been active for about 5 months now. Until recently, I've never even had so much as a  rude comment on one of my hubs.

But then...I read a hub about gun control, and innocently commented that I agreed with the guy. The posse came out of the woodwork, guns blasting, like someone had armed the cockroaches and turned the lights off! One of them has even written enough comments about lil' ol' me to make about three of his own hubs. (Well, I guess I'm no longer an innocent in this one, because I became annoyed enough to exercise my freedom of speech and wrote my own hub on gun culture.)

Anyway, don't worry about that nastiness being common in HP. Like someone else said, if it bothers you, stay away from the controversial topics, like...(sorry, I realized that there isn't room here to list them all). smile

I definitely wouldn't allow anyone to directly email with nastiness, though. That should be forwarded to the HP team for action.

Gun control is a hot button issue, HP. Especially for those who've had something happen that makes them feel they need the protection of carrying a gun. I, myself, do so legally. If you're going to come out against something, expect an argument.

Longhunter, I don't have any problems with debate, but being hateful, as when you labeled me a liberal racist with such zeal, was unnecessary and mean-spirited. Please don't address me again until you can find some manners.

Just calling it the way I see it, HP. There's an old saying that goes, "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen." If you're going to come out against guns, you better be ready for some rebuttal. Perhaps a thicker skin would help.

LH, this is the last time I will respond to you. My skin is plenty thick. So don't try to sell your aggressiveness as being appropriate. Just learn how to disagree with people and keep your manners - others would appreciate it very much.

Alright guys that's enough. I really don't like having to close my questions this soon. Thank you for your answer HP.

The overwhelming majority of hubbers are courteous, positive and helpful. Of course, in every barrel of apples you will find one that isn't so good. I don't think I have received "hate" mail, although I have received strongly worded commentary surrounding political pieces and that is to be expected. By and large this is a super community and one filled with great contributors.

That's not exactly hate mail. Many of us have gotten mail that has suggested we'd be better off dead. Just report it and move on.

i've never gotten any but that doesn't mean a thing. in fact i'm surprised i haven't gotten hate mail. just so you know, i find you to be one of the most down to earth people on here so forget about what that fool said and keep doing your thing.

Peeples, if you're getting hate mail as in emails through HubPages (HP), you should report it.

If you're having problems within a forum, you can report it as well. It's best to keep in mind before ever entering a forum, they do get heated from time to time. Politics, religion, and guns are particularly "hot button" issues. That's not to say it should be no-holds-barred but, like I said, they do get heated.

Comments on hubs can get heated as well. I tend to keep my comments short but not always, especially if there are incomplete points. In one, I explained how several points on handgun carry laws were incomplete and the hubber accepted my explanation graciously. I happen to live in the state he was referring to in his hub and have a Handgun Carry Permit.

If you've only gotten one in two years, you're doing good. I've gotten several, especially in the forums. I do tend to give as good as I get as well.

I've only gotten one or two but I find it far less prevalent than on other places such as YouTube.
