I would love to join the challenge! Do I just submit my hubs per usual and put the NovHubChallenge in tag box. Do I need to do anything else?
Welcome aboard and just put your link to your new hub here --> http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/18049 after you have posted it is the only other thing you need to do.
Welcome aboard Gonnawantseconds! We look forward to your November hubs!
Nelle, I think you have a great idea focusing on the ebay, but have you considered adding pictures? Have you thought about if ebay does a ban like we thought they were going to do a few months back? I stopped using ebay as a main source till lately. I've had a few ideas that just worked better as ebay promotion.
Whitney I am here to make money period. If it isn't a clickable product it doesn't go on my site. I want nothing, absolutely nothing to distract a visitor. The only thing I want them looking at or clicking on is a product link.
Small product image links are fine with me, if they want more info or a larger picture - then they click through to Ebay or Amazon and I have a larger chance of them purchasing something.
Yes, I have considered both Ebay changing its policy, and Amazon getting rid of me because the state of Massachusetts institutes an internet sales tax. I think that the latter is a more likely occurance, and a very possible one.
To counteract ebay deciding against hubpages in the future, I started a new website this week, and will probably start a new site each week until I have 15 to 20 websites dedicated to ebay. So that if they say I can't work on hubpages, I'll have quite a back up system in place. The only other affiliate options on those websites will be companies that haven't axed affliates because of a state implemented internest sales tax. (I've watched affiliates who haven't prepared for this lose 90% of their income overnight.)
Amazon's recent cookie change has hurt sales and that's why I've been adding ebay capsules. If I loose ebay on hubpages, and hubpages hasn't given us more monetization options. I probably would not keep my current hubs up.
In the late spring I plan to start writing hubs for adsense, so there will be no products them. But there may be a few photographs that I've taken personally and videos that I've made as well. So stay tuned for a different kind of Hoxie hubbing style!
Sounds like you do have it figured out. I do agree that setting up other options is great. I guess bc I'm not here solely to make money, that's why I haven't really done much else. I have a few blogs that do really well, but still nothing personally owned. How are you setting up your sites? I have several URLs owned but nothing developed yet. Mostly bc my dad is my web developer and he's been way busy lately and for the past two years that I've owned the URLs. *shrugs*
I'm curious how pictures could deter from clicking ads?
I think in order for Amazon to work for you, you have to do the product review hubs. Me, personally, just throwing some Amazon products that relate to my hubs is not working and when I took them out and started revamping the articles to focus more on adsense things started to turn around in number of page views. I'm not seeing a lot of new clicks yet but I think the more focused the hub to whichever you choose the better.
Not necessarily, it just depends on the products and topic that you're writing about. I'd done well with some of my product reviews promoting amazon products, but most of my amazon sales come from hubs that have amazon products on them that just relate to the topic.
I agree that depending on the topic, you just have to focus on whatever affiliate that you think will do better, for sure.
Affiliate sales is always interesting. I have to say that I don't think pictures detract. I am often drawn to an article because of an intro picture.
I have finished my seventh hub for November and have a theme in mind for several of them. I will see if you can figure it out.
It's so funny. I start really trying to focus my attention on the specifics and everything seems to go down, down, down. I don't focus and just write and I get clicks and earnings. I just really don't know what works best anymore.
I think you answered your own question. Go back and read your post, Lynne.
Just as a reminder, please add "novhubchallenge" to the keytags on all of your November hubs if you're participating in the November Hub Challenge. I don't think everyone is doing that and HP staff is monitoring the progress. I'd sure like us to get all the credit for what we've published. Can everyone please check all of your November hubs and make sure it has the tag "novhubchallenge" as one word? Thanks!
Thanks KCC, I did not know this, duh, Jane! Will go back and add to the hubs.
They've been impressed with how many we've collectively done, but I know of several people not doing it and some of them have cranked out a lot. I think HP will be surprised once they get the real number. Keep up the good work!
Hallo peeps. Can I join and start tomorrow, and finish 11th December? Is that how it works?
I'm in. I started Thursday and it is now Tuesday. I have 6 hubs, so far. I'm getting the hang of hub pages, but I will be happy to hear any feedback.
Wayne glad to have you aboard.
How is everyone doing? I'm on day 13 and have 21 hubs up for this challenge.
Count me in. I have posted my hubs in the appropriate forum. The whole lot of them.
I just finished my 17th but it won't let me publish, technical issues I assume from the other posts.
Misty great to have you aboard too. Yeah I am having the same issues with my hub. I was able to save it unpublished so I guess now it is just a waiting game until they get the issue fixed.
We're not so far behind. But I know how you feel... I just haven't been able to bounce between projects. And I felt I had to diversify a bit more. So I've had to work elsewhere for a few days.
I think I have too many passwords to remember some days. But my security conscious husband says all my user ids and passwords shouldn't be the same.
Yeah, he's right about that. I took a couple of hours the other night to put all of mine into a spreadsheet. Several free blogs, hosted sites, bookmarking sites, writing sites...geez it can get overwhelming!
Day 15 and still only 9 done....LOL Hmmmmmm
Me to. I only have 7, but I have other sites I'm working on. Just getting a little burnt on the writing, but I wrote 1600 words for a hub yesterday. Hope to get caught up this weekend.
yanxxx you can join any time you like. If you start today then you will want to make 30 days from now your target date. the NovHubChallenge runs nov 1 to nov 30 for those of us that like to begin and end on a monthly basis.
If you want to pick up with us that is fine too. You could get in a decent amount of hubs by the end of the month and then start the december one providing we do one that month.
Either way, welcome aboard.
Thanks a lot. I'll try to finish 30 by the end of this month.
Finally number 23 is pubbed think I will take a break until tomorrow. Who knows what it will bring with it being the 13th and a Friday.
You are going gangbusters. I've gotten hung up on another project, so I'm still at 11. But since this is barely the 13th, I guess I'm still good to go.
I'm pretty excited about this challenge. I've got 18 in 12 days, working on 19. I want to have 21 by the end of the day if at all possible, but that's probably stretching a little too far.
I've been a little distracted lately. Just wanting and needing to do so much that nothing gets done because I'm thinking about what all I need to do.
Whitney, you've written so many hubs in your 2 years here. Can you share why the challenge has you excited? For me, it's the camaraderie, of knowing there are other folks out there trying to crank out hubs as well. It helps to keep me focused... Oh and good luck with your 3 hubs today!
No real reason really. Just gives me a reason to come up with something new. I don't really agree with cranking out hubs unless they contain useful info, are visibly appealing, and somewhat medium-high quality. I think quality needs to be some where. The challenge is not to crank out hubs, but to push yourself to create quality hubs that readers will be able to benefit from in some manner or another.
I really don't have a reason behind my excitement really.
2 more to go. Shouldn't be too hard. The first took longer than expected.
I signed up at the wrong place! I think wrote at where the challenge team posted. Anyhow, I said I was up for the challenge for this month. Since I signed up three weeks ago, I don't think I am too far behind everyone else.
So far, I wrote 20 hubs and posted the URLs on the other link. Well, I have 10 more to go, but Thanksgiving is coming next week, it will be a little harder to accomplish! Wish me luck.
Hey, glad I didn't join. Day 16 (here) and I only published 2 .
I guess one COULD argue that if you had joined you MIGHT have had more than 2......but......I'm finding too many distractions myself this month.
Wish I could argue that but I've been swamped with other writing jobs. Happy for the dollars but sad because I'm not churning out hubs.
I can't even say that much....I have nothing to show for the time away from hubbing...LOL Nothing monetarily, I guess.
Well everyone, you're 2 weeks in....best of luck to you all. I would like to join in one of these, maybe you will do it again for next month. I'm still new and haven't made a dime online.....having a real hard time figuring it all out. I'm going to join in with you all for these last couple of weeks.....best of luck to you all. Oh yeah and Happy Thanksgiving to all!!!!!
Kre8iv4u: The regular hubchallenge is ongoing. You can start it any day and it runs for 30 days. This particular thread is for those of us like Nelle and I that think it's easier to keep up with a challenge if you run it on a calendar month basis. So, we'll probably start a new one in December. But, don't let that keep you from starting a challenge if you're ready to go now!
Because my daughter ususally spends Thanksgiving with her father because he has a big family, and I've now married an Englishman who doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving, we seem to have grown away from Thanksgiving festivities. But, yes, it is next week.
Okay getting back on the hubber track, just posted #12. Working on my own site was VERY LONELY. Might have to start a topic for that too. I've found I have a social side. Anywas KCC I'm glad to see that cute little monkey smile is back!
Nelle, I feel ya on that one. I have diversified too a bit this month as I am taking to heart the don't have all your eggs in one basket motto. It can be a bit lonely.
Number 27 for the month just went up for me and with the diversification I'm at 28 articles and 1 blog post for the month. Who knew I had so much to say, lol.
Glad you are back with us KCC. It has been a great month so far and wow um 14 more days to go. Woot! Woot!
I really need to add more sites to my list. What are ya'll using to create your websites?
How are you guys managing it all? Are you creating sites that are going to be fairly self-sustainable with little updating, or will you need to update regularly?
I'm trying to find the best way to make more money, but with a full time job, full time boyfriend, full time pets, part time blogger, and at a part time student, I'm stretched a little thin.
There are several ways to go about it, but what I am working on outside of HubPages are mini niche sites that are either informational only with adsense or have an affiliate program or product I am promoting. They are generally geared around 5 - 8 keywords with a page or post for each keyword, and I don't really intend to go back and fiddle with them after the fact.
I also have a project building an authority site for a landscaping niche I am trying to get into, but that will take lots of time and writing and fiddling and updating.
My friends who are holding my hand and guiding me through getting this started suggested self hosting (I use Hostgator for $10/mo for unlimited domains) and use Wordpress as the site software. You can make Wordpress work like a blog or a static site with separate pages. Search for Caroline Middlebrook as she has a good series of videos to help with step by step of setting up wordpress on your host and getting ready to use it. 6stepnichesites.com is also a good and more in depth explanation at making this method work for separate little income streams.
There are many other ways, but for me right now, this is what I'm doing outside of HubPages, and it is beginning to pick up.
Whitney I don't work and am not managing it really well, lol. I have a blog that seriously needs updating last post there was Nov 5, I signed up on life123 to give it a try and have so far made one article entry over there. My main focus has been here as I am trying to get to 100 hubs by the end of the month.
I don't see how you are doing it with all that going on.
Oh and we have our big annual craft/garage sale coming up on Black Friday which I still have to make diaper wipe cases for and make up a couple of batches of bath salts in varying scents.
Whoa now I'm a bit overwhelmed. Aaah!
Hi Whitney,
I use Bluehost for hosting and a wordpress theme for the two new sites listed in my profile. You can use simple scripts to easily set up the wordpress. And then select and theme and it automatically downloads. All very convenient for this non-techy mind.
I'm using wordpress to create static pages as well as the blog part, so they will be a full-fledged webssite with oodles of product pages (would you expect anything less from me.)Eventually the blog will advertize favorite products, sales and coupons and point to the static webpages. They aren't anywhere near that level now, but you can check them out if you want. They'll grow and grow, and more sites will be added to "Nelle's Empire". Lots of affiliate programs from Sharesale and Linkshare, my favorite networks.
I've heard great things about hostgator and bluehost. I'm just always nervous of outsourcing my hosting because if the info is lost, you have to start all over.
Right now, I'm hosting at home, but I can't get wordpress on my servers because they're set up for microsoft. Linux and Microsoft just aren't compatible together. It's one or the other.
I am really considering starting with about 5 more sites.
Thank you for all the information.
Where are you getting your wordpress layouts? Are they Adsense capable?
Search for free adsense themes...there are several, and you can pick what you like. If you search just for free wordpress themes you can spend hours looking at them all. Nelle's theme has a link at the bottom. Looked at that site last night, and they have some nice-looking free themes. There is also a nice Amazon store one they are selling for $50 that allows visitors to add to cart and keep browsing on your site, and when they want to check out it takes them to Amazon. Really cool, and I'm considering buying it to use.
Hosting-wise I would just recommend getting a wordpress plugin that does backups on your database. I'm not using one yet because my sites are so simple, so I can't give a recomendation but I've been reading about them lately. You can have your site backed up daily and the backup emailed to you, so if anything catastrophic happened you could get back up easily.
Some of my recent bookmarks. Lots of themes.

This one has tons of themes, but it lets you narrow down your search to certain criteria such as "adsense ready"http://www.wpskins.org/
This is the Amazon store theme that looked good to me. http://www.antisocialmediallc.com/2009/ … nstastore/
I've got 13 hubs in my first 14 days on hubpages. i will make 30 in 30 days.
I also write for life123.com. In the last two weeks I have written 6 articles over there. I really have 19 articles in 14 days. just not all on hubpages.
i will finish 30 in 30 on hubpages, no doubt. i got ideas, man ... lots of 'em.
Wow, Lynnechandler, you're doing exceedingly well! Congrats!
Thanks KCC. I posted number 30 today. I played around with some new things as far as topics this month and it has been a great ride. I'm continuing on the challenge until the end of the month where I hope to have a total of 50 hubs completed for this challenge.
I'm joining this challenge! I just joined Hub Pages 4 days ago, and I realize I only have 12 days to write 30 more. It's a stretch but I hope I can do it.
Welcome to HubPages and welcome to the challenge, dfantasy! You are welcome to do 30 hubs in 12 days if you want, but you do still have the option of doing 30 hubs in 30 days. It's up to you.
Either way, we're glad to have you!
Okay, I've been debating for a week now whether I'm going to take this challenge or not. Since I'm here,I guess my answer is... yes I'm taking the challenge. The only way to fail is by not trying, right?
I joined hubpages just a few days ago, and did 2 hubs in 2 days. Not a bad start, but I haven't gotten up the moxie to join a challenge yet. (Of course, I just discovered it 4 minutes ago!) But, I wanted to chime in here and say I think this is a fantastic idea! What fun!
I originally came to hubpages just wanting a creative outlet, and have realized its so much more... I definitely plan on making it a new hobby at the least. I want to read a little more and get a handle on the ins and outs, but I'll be back. That's really why I posted here. I want to commit to coming back and doing a challenge once I get my hub feet wet.
Hope to see you all soon!
Ok, I'm feeling a bit lonesome here guys. Anyone still with me this month?
I just posted #12...I'm busy trying to catch up....LOL
You can do it, I have faith. Glad to see you and I know you will get caught up. I'm prob not gonna make my personal goal of 50 this month but I won't be too far off the mark.
I wrote 20 so far, 10 more to go
I saw people posting the links to some articles; is that what we are suppose to do?

Please let me know if I am right or wrong:1. Write hub and publish2. Post link without referral tracker to this forum3. Write 30 hubs in 30 daysMy questions: Can I share these hubs with other sites like SheToldMe, Blogger, etc?Can hubs be about any topic? (within rules of Hub Pages)Thank you!

I have completed three 30 day HubChallenges. One in May, one in late July, and one during the calendar month of September. In all 3 cases, I published more than 30 hubs in 30 days. In fact, in the latest challenge I committed to publishing 45 and I did it. 45 hubs put me at...

I'm just coming back after a several year hiatus, and one of the most exciting things that started when I was here was the HubChallenge. Originally, it was 30 hubs in 30 days. Now I see it's changed to either updating your hubs or 30 hubs in 60 days. I tried the original once, and I failed...

Well, I started yesterday (Friday, 24th) but didn't get any published, although I did some researching and writing. Now I've published my first four hubs in the on-going challenge!<no links in this thread, please!>

Are you in the midst of a Hub Challenge? Fantastic! Should you like to share the Hubs you have published as you continue along on your epic journey, share them here. Please do not post Hub links in other threads or start a new thread for individual Hubs. That makes things messy, and makes it harder...

Ok, so a few weeks ago I was drinking on a Friday night (like every other night) and decided to have a 30 minute hub writing contest. U know, they have 30 hubs in 30 days, so I figured why not 1 hub in 30 minutes? We got like four hubs done, and another that didn't make it in a half hour, but...
