Quite right - She doesn't seem to playing for the team here. I strongly object to the word cult. "Family" is what we are. One big happy family that performs or pays the consequences, Stacie.

You don't want gamergirl to have to pay you a visit as well do you ?

You are all making trouble.  I wasn't threatening the puppy, I want to play with it.  Duh.

Family.  I knew a family once.  They lived in New Jersey.  They all had Italian accents.  They dressed well and rode around in big limos.  They had strange meetings at restaurants full of other people with italian accents who dressed well and rode around in big limos.  Some of them had bodyguards with crooked noses.

Wait....that was my ex husband's family.  It was so weird, they used to call themselves "THE Family"....how arrogant is that?

Anyway, they kept disappearing for long periods of time. One of them disappeared for 25 years.  We found out he had been in Sicily.  I remember it distinctly, because it was the day before John Gotti was arrested.

I don't think the two are related, but it was a strange family.  And none of them had cats, they all had these huge dobermans.  I hated the dobermans.  They were not cuddly at all.  I wanted a cat, but they said the dobies would eat it.  Bad dobies, bad! BAD!

I would rather have been in a cult.

And oh yeah, for the OP (who has probably fled in terror by now), this is straight from the Hub Help Pages:

How do I close my account?

If you would like to deactivate your HubPages account please send an email from your registered email address to team@hubpages.com with the subject "Close my account".

If you would like to cancel/delete a different account (something other than HubPages), you've come to the wrong place. We are not affiliated with any other Website or company, and we can not help you.

(No joke, that really is on the page.  You can look for yourself.  Click help and scroll down to "How Do I Close My Account"......this IS a strange family)

Great come back Mark, Kind of life living in the USA huh ? You can leave but you still have to pay us.  isn't that organized crime? ;-)

I prefer to think of it as one big happy family smile

Although my wife is American and she has to fill in a tax return every year even though we live outside the US. Now that's organized crime smile

Actually, no - we are residents out side the US, so no money - but she will lose her US citizenship if she doesn't fill the tax return in every year.

That is truly bizarre!  If you get done for tax matters in the US do you loose your citizenship?

I didn't realise Americans got taxed on their worldwide income - I thought NZ and Eire were the lucky people who got to pay tax worldwide !

Not that I'd want to do that or anything, oh great HubMaster of the Internets...

  23. Inspirepub profile image71
    Inspirepubposted 16 years ago

Yep, Americans and Australians as well as Kiwis are taxed on worldwide income.

You get a credit for any tax you pay in your country of residence, but you don't get a refund if your country of residence charges more tax than the Mother Country, so the net affect is you pay the higher of the two countries' tax rate on everything.

It's a great incentive to incorporate.

I am pretty sure that the Australians don't pay on overseas income - I got away with it when I worked in a lower taxed regime but it was quite a few years ago.  Its not an issue when you are working in another similar tax regime - the issue is when you are working somewhere with no tax such as Dubai and then the NZ tax depart wants 33% tax - for services they did not provide! Its a real deincentive to remember that you are a Kiwi then !

  24. Mark Knowles profile image58
    Mark Knowlesposted 16 years ago

    It's massively complicated:
    http://www.nolo.com/article.cfm/objectI … 7/112/ART/

But she has to fill in the return whether we live out side the  US or not.

  25. Lissie profile image77
    Lissieposted 16 years ago

Well at least she gets an exclusion on the first $80k - I wish NZ would do something like that.  And NZ considers you liable for tax unless you sever all connections - which is not defined but probably means selling all property/companies that you have there and relocating/knocking off any relatives who inconveniently live there - I don't think citizenship comes into it!

Australians are supposed to declare and pey tax on global earnings if they are resident in Australia for tax purposes, which is compulsory if you spend more than 120 days iin Australia during the tax year.

So if you actually go and live somewhere else on a more or less permanent basis, AND you don't earn income in Australia during that time (say, from renting out your Australian house), THEN you can opt out of being an Australian resident for tax purposes.

My problem is that Australia has the climate, lifestyle and people that I want, which means I can't bring myself to spend less than 120 days a year here.
