I have to get back to work.  Its 1:00 p.m. and I need to do SOMETHING productive.... wink

I keep looking, but it's been over an hour at this point.

I gave up.  The answer is probably something we're all overlooking, but it looks like other than MC7, pretty much everyone who normally guesses on these things has poked their head in and used up their guesses.

I think it must have something to do with the science fair, bake-off, basketball reference...

have they done the "SPORTS" topic yet??? hmmmm. . . wonder if its that.

The blogger from Mental Floss stated that this was an opening for him to start judging bake-offs and science fairs and such.

I took it as simply humor, but maybe I was wrong. smile

LDS guessed psychology and science and Hubpages stated that he still hadn't seen it.

    *sigh*

I'm pretty much out of the running for the contest, but this is just driving me complete bonkers because I want to know what it is.

Oh...I only read the clue part, not that...I see it now.

I still have one guess, but I have no idea.  I've added numbers, turned them into letter, eliminated numbers, added them up, down, sideways...blah blah.

But I don't even know if I'm on the right track.

  9. kellyfilmgirl profile image58

Yeah. I have another idea, but I'm way out of guesses.

I agree.  But the addicted part of me can't give it a rest.  I mean, what do I do with a "free" evening?

  11. Stacie Naczelnik profile image64

We don't want a day off...then nobody would get points for the $100.

Not worry about how many hubs you need to stay as close to the top as possible?

  19. gamergirl profile image90
    gamergirlposted 16 years ago

Couldn't be that hard, you got 10 hubs! ROFL

Seriously, I don't know how you guys do it.  I fell asleep at my keyboard last night writing my first hub, and had to dodge work a little today to get my third one done!

Kudos to everyone who has kept going.. I know I flailed around a good bit at the start of this contest.. and it's still aggravating to have ideas bursting from your skull but no time to write them down.. but dang if it isn't fun at the same time.

I maxed out at 2 hubs on the music topic and I don't know where the time went.  Maybe I spend too much time on them?  I don't know how to streamline the process.

    2. Whitney05 profile image83
Whitney05posted 16 years agoin reply to this

True, but that doesn't mean that coming up with them was easy. :-\ My dad gave me my first few ideas.

I'm not too keen on the religion topic. I think it's a personal thing. :-\ I don't know what I'm going to do with this one. Time for a brain breather and off computer time for a few hours.

  20. stephhicks68 profile image87
    stephhicks68posted 16 years ago

I wrote 2 or 3, then took the night off last night starting at 7:00.  I had too.  My hubby would have killed me otherwise.  There is more to life than hubbing.  wink

  21. stephhicks68 profile image87

religion is gonna be tough too!

  22. gamergirl profile image90
    gamergirlposted 16 years ago

Oh my god, I'm almost as excited about this topic as I was the games topic!

  23. Stacie Naczelnik profile image64
    Stacie Naczelnikposted 16 years ago

You know what?  I was really bummed about the business topic...I was like, uh, what am I going to write about?  I'm a creative writer...and English major....I don't know anything about business.
But I got into it, and was surprised at what I put together.  It was one of my easiest compilations of hubs...I think because I didn't struggle with coming up with ideas.

Coming up with ideas is the hardest part!...now...religion.

  24. gamergirl profile image90
    gamergirlposted 16 years ago

I'll tell you, this topic is a great one for me.  I've studied world religions for 12 years, and I am off tomorrow, so no set bedtime for me... woohoo!!!

Good luck to everyone who gets into the top five today, and I hope I win the 100 bucks!  LOL

  25. Angela Harris profile image67
    Angela Harrisposted 16 years ago

Stacie, we are of the same mindset. When I saw that the topic was Business yesterday, I just dreaded getting started. And like you, they were the easiest Hubs for me to write. Mind you, I didn't say they were fun.

And I think religion is going to be really tough. No matter what is written, it will offend someone. Of course, I could just put up something controversial. Those are the best traffic generators anyway. I don't know...

  26. Whitney05 profile image83
    Whitney05posted 16 years ago

2 hours left. anyone want to do political scandals of the US.? I don't feel like doing it. I'm already way behind Stacie, so there's no sense in trying to pull 7 hubs out of my bum. And, I'm not in the mood for a more in-depth hub right now. I think it's a good topic, so I wanted to throw the idea out.

  27. Angela Harris profile image67
    Angela Harrisposted 16 years ago

Whitney, I had a dismal output today- only 4 hubs. But I went and watched Jumper last night. So I guess I'm the only one to blame. Oh well, I had fun with my daughter. That's more important.

  28. Whitney05 profile image83
    Whitney05posted 16 years ago

I only had 4 as well. Just wasn't in the mood. Plus I figured Stacie's going to beat me anyway. Especially now that she one the clue for the day. But, that's cool. I can do 10 on gadget easy. But I'll still be in 2nd.

  29. gamergirl profile image90
    gamergirlposted 16 years ago

only four she says, the lady with a solid third place.

Angela Harrisposted 16 years agoin reply to this

Hey, I'm getting tired. Who knows what tomorrow may bring, maybe nothing at all with a topic like 'gadgets'.

And I really feel old asking this question, but what is PFFT? I can figure out almost all of netspeak, but this one leaves me scratching my head.

  30. Angela Harris profile image67
    Angela Harrisposted 16 years ago

Whitney, really? It's easy for you to write about gadgets? Aaak, I hate writing about stuff like that. It's worse than technologies. At least with technologies I could drift to ancient history. I'm sorry, just in a whiney mood today.

Oh yeah! I just saw a couple of days ago that you're from Georgia? Close to Atlanta? Don't feel obligated to answer, just curious. I'm south of Atlanta, for a little while longer at least.

    1. Whitney05 profile image83
Whitney05posted 16 years agoin reply to this

Angela, I think gadgets is going to be easier that technology. I tried to steer clear of gadgets for the most part wanting to stay on technology, which was harder. My dad and I are big fans of gadgets and nick-nack techy things, so I'm going to try a little brainstorming with him. I have a few ideas right now though.

I'm about 1.5 hours from ATL. Big city, kinda. Can ya guess? Ha... I've picked up many an animal in an near ATL.

  31. Stacie Naczelnik profile image64
    Stacie Naczelnikposted 16 years ago

Angela, how was Jumper?  Did you like it?

Hm...gadgets.  I'm going to have to flex my brain muscles again for this topic.

Are we still waiting to hear what they are doing for the top 5?

  32. Angela Harris profile image67
    Angela Harrisposted 16 years ago

Stacie, I liked Jumper, my teenage daughter didn't. Go figure. I thought it could have had a better storyline, though. It's worth a watch if you like special effects.

I think we're still waiting for the top 5. Good luck. And again with the 10 hubs! Phew, how you do it I'll never know.

  33. gamergirl profile image90
    gamergirlposted 16 years ago

    Mmmmm gadgets.

    Take a break, ladies.. lol

PFFT is the sound your breath makes when you're pushing air out of nearly closed lips.. it's the sound you make when you don't believe something.. like:

"Hilary Clinton is a man?" pfft!

(It's also the sound of a restrained gaseous emission, but err, yeah.  More the answer above.)

Watched a movie?  Good for you, Angela.  I feel like I haven't watched TV or read a book or anything for a month now.  And I don't publish 10 hubs a day.  The most I've done so far is 5, on recipes, no less....

Gadgets.  Hmmm...  I just don't know.

Angela Harrisposted 16 years agoin reply to this

Yes, Yes, Stacie, what gamergirl says. You must not forget where you were in the story. That would be a tragedy. I suggest you finish it right now and take a break from the computer for a couple of days.

  38. Angela Harris profile image67
    Angela Harrisposted 16 years ago

Stacie, that is probably what I would recommend for Jumper, unless you ARE a big fan of special effects. Then it would be worth watching on the big screen. Do you mind mentioning the book you are reading? If anyone needs to read a great book after the contest, I highly recommend "The Time Traveler's Wife". They are making a movie soon as well.

Steph, I hadn't realized how long it had been since I was out of the house. We even walked to the theater. It was really nice. This contest is a killer, ain't it?

Whitney, I'm glad the subject will be easy for someone. wink  My guess is Macon. If so, you are really close to me.

So hey - it looks like the readerboard was updated and Stacie got extra points (I don't know where she was before), but probably won 1st place!  I have a total of 9 points for the 3 hubs I published yesterday.  I wonder when we'll get the official announcement?

Angela Harrisposted 16 years agoin reply to this

Sorry, gamergirl. I wasn't on the forums then. My guess is about 3 at that time. Do you know I was up until 5 am this morning? Not completely because of Hubpages, but it still played a part.

      1. gamergirl profile image90
gamergirlposted 16 years agoin reply to this

Yeah, I was up until 2, but mostly because of schoolwork.

I've resigned myself to your 2pm burst of hubs, and you've got such a huge lead on me that I'm not going to be able to retake third, sooooo, you keep pluggin away lady, who knows, you may pass Whitney!

  45. stephhicks68 profile image87
    stephhicks68posted 16 years ago

Well..... I have some bad news.  My laptop blew up last night.  Too much HubPages??  My husband sat for hours trying to troubleshoot with my computer-geek brother-in-law, while I caught up with my friend Oprah.  Boy, have I missed her!  smile

So, I am behind on gadgets, and down my laptop on which I like to sit in the kitchen and be part of the family (or at least be a fixture around which life circulates while I hub).  Now, I am tucked far, far away in the recesses of a dark den on an old desk top.  sad  I don't like it.  I may even hub less.

I guess I need to make friends with Stacie for that new laptop.  Hey, Stacie.... that shirt looks really good on you.  wink

HAHAHA.. This totally cracked me up!

I feel ya. I've loved this contest and can't wait for more. The traffic has been tremendous for me. But, I can't wait to catch some Zzzz's.

I figured I wasn't going to catch up with Stacie at this point and went to bed at midnight last night versus 2 or 3am. That 2-3 hours was wonderful on my beauty sleep sucky on my hub producing ability. Ha.

  46. gamergirl profile image90
    gamergirlposted 16 years ago

    Haha!!

Hey, no worries sweetheart, everyone in the contest has worked super super hard, thank goodness it's almost over so I can stop stressing and trying to hub while I'm at work. LOL

  47. stephhicks68 profile image87

Peter M. Lopezposted 16 years agoin reply to this

      It wouldn't matter, steph.

I felt guilty, so I started only participating 2-3 days a week, but then I missed:  FOOTBALL, technologies, and gadgets.  That kills me.  So, there's no winning.  Just enjoy the best you can.

  48. gamergirl profile image90
    gamergirlposted 16 years ago

I'm ready to stop stressing over it.  All righteous b!tch moments aside, it's been a harsh contest.  Fun, but damn I've missed out on so much sleep.
