    Hey folks!

How about a little cheering squad thread, eh?

I have been feeling a little down the last couple of days because, well, I'm working hard on these hublove topics but they're not really easy.. The leaderboard is full of amazing hubbers, but oh my gosh!! Stacie, Whitney, you ladies have blown everyone out of the water.

I'm getting a little discouraged, myself, but you girls are the best.  I'm struggling with the thought of pulling out of the contest, but I'm not sure.

Don't pull out of the contest, GG! I don't have chance  in hell of winning (there's no way I can write as many hubs as others can---I just can't work that fast!) but I'm looking at it as a way to challenge myself to write about stuff I might not normally write about, and to produce a hub a day. Hopefully, by the  time the  30 days are up, hubwriting will be a new daily habit for me smile And, the more hubs we have up, the more $$ we can make, so it's all  good.

Hang in there. You've been writing some great hubs for the contest!!

  3. Whitney05 profile image81
    Whitney05posted 16 years ago

Hubteam, can you check my hubs. I just sent a few through the duplicate checker. Yesterday you guys found one of my hubs with a few too many duplicates, that I was able to correct before the day closed, but I didn't even know that it was considered to have duplicates. You said to check the top of hte hub, but I never had a duplicate notice on the hub. I just want to make sure that they're ok for the contest today. Thank you

Charlotte, don't give up yet... Challenge yourself. I hate sports, and never would have thought about writing football hubs, so the contest is definately broadening my hub variety.

I'm secretly hoping that you ladies will get tired of posting ten hubs a day, and then I can make a break for it... LOL

You know what?  I'm getting a bit burnt.  Trying to juggle life, other writing assignments, and all of these hubs?

    Football?

This is a 3 day weekend and I've never slept less (okay, I have, but I'm not in college anymore, so it doesn't count).

Stay in it everyone.  It isn't over until the fat lady sings.

Even my husband is getting irritated (we're away for the 3-day weekend and I'm chained to the computer).  *sigh*  He's having me unplug so we can drive home.  I'll miss the noon clue.

I don't think I could possibly put out more than 2 hubs a day when I go back to work tomorrow.  If Whitney and Stacie keep up the pace, I'll be lapped several times by next weekend.... smile

p.s.  This HAS been fun, in a sick addictive kind of way, don't you agree?

amy janeposted 16 years agoin reply to this

I agree, Steph, especially with the sick and addictive part.  My husband is getting a little tired of it too.  He is not used to me being obsessive.

And Gamergirl,  I hope you hang in there! I really liked your football hub (the one about distracting your man). I was all grumpy about the football topic last night too. And I know I can't produce ten hubs a day.  I couldn't come up with much.  Maybe the next topic will be better.  smile

Indeed.  Because of similar concerns I took a day off only to find out that the subject was football...YIKES.

My wife immediately realized my disappointment at missing an opportunity to write about football.  I can't keep up either.

  7. gamergirl profile image91
    gamergirlposted 16 years ago

Oh, I'm having a blast trying to come up with topics that haven't been Hubbed!  I'm really hoping for some topics I'm really knowledgeable on.  Watch out!

It's been fun as well in that Hubbers are talking in the topic threads and sharing opposing views with open minds.

Lots of people wrote about football. I'm surprised i could come up with much. smile

  9. Whitney05 profile image81
    Whitney05posted 16 years ago

I'm sick and still hubbing a way. I woke up this morning feeling rough bc I couldn't sleep last night, trying to think of more football topics I could squeeze in today. I think I've squeezed in about 6 so far today, I'm working on 1 more to make it an even 10 for the 24 hour period. I've still got an hour, so hopefully, I'll make it. But this contest came at a bad time- me getting sick and all.

Charlotte- I'm hoping for some more interesting topics, too... :-\

I just feel bad about spending so much time locked to my computer. I tend to take a break after attempting the noon clue. Gives me time to think of a few hubs and be a little non-addicted.

  10. gamergirl profile image91
    gamergirlposted 16 years ago

See.. I couldn't squeeze out ten hubs about football without taking ideas from Wikipedia or something.  Now, ask me about other topics and, well, I'm in like Flint.

  11. Whitney05 profile image81
    Whitney05posted 16 years ago

I did football games to start, but realized that wasn't going to cut it for 10. I thought of the ideas out of the blue, but definitely had to do a little digging for information.

I'm definitely stumped for the 10th one.

  12. Stacie Naczelnik profile image64
    Stacie Naczelnikposted 16 years ago

This football topic was tough.  Whitney, I'm not sick, but I also haven't slept well--trying to think of topics!  Argh!

I just finished my tenth.  I can't believe I wrote ten hubs in less than 24 hours.  On football!  How exhausting.

My dad called last night and gave me tons of great ideas...but they would have involved really researching football, and I honestly didn't have the desire or energy to do it.  I told him he could write them!

  13. Whitney05 profile image81
    Whitney05posted 16 years ago

This contest is really draining me. I finished my 10th one, as well... But where 3 of them are games, I'm a little worried about the cheats. Sometimes it can be hard to reword them just right to get the same effect... I just hope all 10 are good enough, otherwise, you've got me beat. :-\

I agree with too much research on a topic I'm not a fan of. I tried to do the least research that I could, which is slightly unfortunately, I know, but I did my best.

If you could choose your perfect topic, what would it be?

I do a lot of cooking, so recipes would be a good one for me.

  15. Talem profile image60

The perfect topic for me would be novels.

I have so many novels I could analyze, summarize, review. Another topic would be MMORPG games, the final fantasy franchise, and American Idol Hahahaa.big_smile Obviously with Kat in my avatar.

I've had some personal issues come up today, so I'm going to try my best to keep up, but I don't know how it will turn out... Kind of depends on how the situation turns out... (my boyfriend-on-break disappeared yesterday, 3 days before he goes to court, and i found out today; i signed into his myspace trying to see if i could find anything out, and it turns out he was trying to get with another girl- see my question in the family thread please..)

This is stupidly addictive -  I cant even win the prize and I ended up writing 2 hubs on "football" and I hate rugby , football, cricket at all the ball sports! I am aiming to stay on the leaderboard - 3 days a week  I am working 12 hours a day in the real world so I couldn't really compete anyway.  We are also going away for a long weekend - I might have to book a place with wifi!

    1. stephhicks68 profile image85
stephhicks68posted 16 years agoin reply to this

Lissie - I just came back from a long weekend trip with my husband.  No kids, the beach.  A perfect destination..... for hubbing??!  LOL.

  22. profile image0
    helenathegreatposted 16 years ago

I'm with Lissie.  Even though I AM eligible to win, I've silently accepted my defeat and am just trying to stay on the leader board.  I missed two days because my family decided to drive to Florida (from Connecticut)!  And I'll miss at least two more driving back and going to my grandfather's funeral.  Plus we're IN Florida, so I'm at the beach all day and can't even try for guessing the clues 'cause 3pm here is prime beach time!

    Oh HubPages.  You're plaguing me!

  23. gamergirl profile image91
    gamergirlposted 16 years ago

Yeah... I have lost hope myself.  I just can't write six to ten hubs a day, I'm lucky to get in three or four and that's if I write hubs while on the clock at work.

Oh well.  Maybe the winner will let me buy the digital camera from them or something.

    1. stephhicks68 profile image85
stephhicks68posted 16 years agoin reply to this

I'm there too.  It takes me a good 2 hours to write a Hub usually, and I've been paring that down a little bit in the competition.  Now that I'm at work, I should be paying attention to work... I'm just going to continue to toss my 2 hubs a day out there, maybe 3 on the weekends for the fun of it.  smile

You gals are all an inspiration.  I didn't even try to join the contest (besides I live in Canada)  Just the fact that you're in there, writing about topics you might not know anything about is awsome.   I am cheering you on from the sidelines.  Good luck to all of you.  Jan

  25. stephhicks68 profile image85
    stephhicks68posted 16 years ago

Yeah, I saw your other post too.  Yesterday, I was wondering to myself if people would start dropping out and just letting the 2-3 top contenders duke it out and drive themselves crazy putting out tons of hubs each day for the next month.  Seems that that wouldn't be the intent of the contest.  If there is another one in the future, rules and structure might be better designed and published.

  26. Stacie Naczelnik profile image64
    Stacie Naczelnikposted 16 years ago

I think there is some undue criticism here.

I am sad to see anyone drop out--who knows what will happen?  I've had time the time to write lots of hubs lately, but I won't always have that time.

As for hubs on the same topics...

Well, honestly, I've been focusing on my own ideas.  I haven't even had time to look at what anyone else has written until I've already written mine.

At the same time, I write mine offline (but start the hub with the URL early)--then I publish.  If I spend all the time writing the hub, then see someone else published a similar hub while I was writing mine, does that mean I should throw all of my work away?

    I don't think so.

I'm trying to write, not spend all of my time monitoring what everyone else is writing about.  I certainly hope we can all bring fresh views if we end up writing on the same topics.

  27. gamergirl profile image91
    gamergirlposted 16 years ago

I think there can be similarities--can't really be avoided.

I understand your point.  I certainly hope I'm not one of the people you are upset with.

Honestly, I have worked my butt off--but, I've also tried to come at these topics in different ways.  If anyone is checking out what has already been published to gather ideas, then publishing something similar...well, this is uncool.

I was so wrapped up in other things this weekend that I completely missed the contest announcement.

  29. gamergirl profile image91
    gamergirlposted 16 years ago

Don't worry Peter, all you need to do is make sure you write ten hubs a day, doesn't matter if every other contestant is hubbing about the exact same thing.

Contest entries don't have to be unique from other Hubs, it's just been announced.

No can do GG.  I had decided to enter by trying to write one per day and just make sure it was darn good, and it started off quite well (2nd place on day 1), but by day 3 it was causing a little strain at home, so, alas, I will continue to participate, but after I missed the football topic, I knew my chances had dwindled.

I hope you guys stay in this.  Seriously, I was lucky to get ten in during the last couple of days, but I won't be able to maintain that the entire month.  I do have a full time job and a personal life, plus I'm taking a writing class.

Oh yeah, and I need time to sleep.  Stay in it because I think it will get interesting.  The front runners at the beginning don't always stay there.

    Welcome back from...

  41. gamergirl profile image91
    gamergirlposted 16 years ago

oh no, it wasn't exactly a temper tantrum.  It was irritation about feeling like the topics I worked hard to choose so they didn't match other contestants was all for not, that I could've written more but avoided topics since the start of the contest out of respect for the others participating.

Then other things got in the mix.

    Then I blew up.
