How would YOU respond if a negative hub was written referring to you, your character,

your psychological makeup, your sociopolitical, and/or religious/spiritual/ethical beliefs?

I'd crush them like the insignificant insects they are, then drink beer out of their empty skulls...and I'd laugh. LAUGH I tell you!! Mwahahahaha!!

You're funny.  Your kids must love you.  Seems like you would make them giggle all the time.....You remind me of how Jim Carrey was with his son on "Liar Liar"

Is this Hub just written to antagonize me? Because unless it's *really* obvious it's about me then the only person that's going to recognize it is me... and at that point I just don't care. It's obviously just trolling. And if no one responds to said troll he just looks like a raving lunatic on a rant about nothing. Suits me just fine. Let him look like a total fool!

Actually, that has happened to me. I just contacted the HP admin team and the offending hub was taken down.

Well, one large negative bubble was written about me specifically. She named me in the bubble. I felt I had to write a counter-bubble to set her straight since she made wild assumptions about me that weren't true at all. My counter-hub was well received and the hubber/bubbler that wrote the original negative tome was removed from both HP and Bubblews. Personally, I knew she was very ill with cancer and probably had "chemo-brain", as she deteriorated rather rapidly into non-sensical tirades against whatever was annoying her at the moment.
I don't see anything wrong with defending ourselves against such inappropriate character assassinations. There may be an excuse behind it like this woman's illness, but it still needs to be dealt with.
Some people just can't help themselves. They don't think of things in the same way that we do. If someone is constantly "negative", it's probably because their lives suck and they are lashing out.
It's unfortunate, but there it is and life goes on...

This may be weird but I know who you're talking about. That bubbler made up a load of stuff about me too; even accused me of threatening her with physical harm. It was insane for a while, but her efforts got her banned from HP at least.

Well, it is from a Q&A, but not this one. I just annoy the religionists too much, I suppose.

Depends. Does the person have any legitimate concerns, or are they just raving like a lunatic about how bad I am without actually giving any examples as to why?

I have yet to come across anyone that fits the former, its always the latter. Even when I ask if they can point out where I did any of the things they claim, they either dont do it or attempt to take something I said out of context to prove a point that doesnt exist for anyone with basic reading comprehension skills.

It would be a nice change of pace to have someone point out that I royally screwed up somewhere and that their concerns are valid.

It's sad that some people can't live in the real world. These people are way below the average when it comes to thinking clearly. Your friends know the difference.

Aside from being flattered that I obviously bothered someone so much that they took the time to write a hub just on me, I'd report it to HP - as it could be seen as slander etc.

  8. Thomas Swan profile image96
    Thomas Swanposted 8 years ago

Yep, it's happened a couple of times to me on this site. Just report it and get the hub taken down. Don't give them the satisfaction of commenting on their hub because that's what they want. They want to know they've annoyed you. Also, best not to even write questions like this or post on the forum because if they're obsessed enough with you to write a hub, then they're probably monitoring your activity across hubpages. Best of luck.

Exactly, I asked this question to see how others would react.  There have been so many hubbers who are subjected to this very egregious, unprofessional behavior.  Where is the ethics really?  Is ethical behavior becoming passé?

If I'm not mistaken Grace, calling out a fellow writer specifically in a NEGATIVE manner, is very much against all TOS, rules & regulations of HP......not to mention fairly unethical and unacceptable.  Waste NO time in reporting this.  Then forget such an incident and go forward in your usual, dignified manner.
Do not think for one moment that those who matter put any stock in any of these rants.  You are aware the vast majority of our Community are above & beyond nonsense like this.........Take care....Paula

Exactly,I was once subjected to this twice and BOTH instigators were subsequently banned from HP entirely but there are OTHERS who have experienced the same thing. I.m past over this but there are others suffering from this unprofessionalism.

I'm sure it would be hurtful, as it's straight-up bullying. But other than catching them for a TOS violation, there wouldn't be much I could do about it. In those scenarios I think the best course of action would be to ignore it. Giving it attention just gives power to the bully.

    TheBizWhizposted 8 years ago

I''ll be honest; if they were writing something bad about me, I probably wouldn't know it because if we disliked each other that much then I am probably not following them and do not seek their attention.

But to answer the question; I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about it. Like Thomas said, don't give them the satisfaction of commenting on their Hub because they are undoubtedly trying to lure you in. I would also report the Hub for good measures, but even if it is taken down then I still wouldn't sweat it.

The people that usually spend their time writing these types of things usually don't have very many or very interesting Hubs anyway, so they don't have an audience. Typically they only made this bland attempt at writing because someone made them look bad in the Q & A and deleted their comments for being trolls.

  12. Kylyssa profile image92

    I would report the hub.

It hasn't happened to me on HP, but something similar happened on Squidoo when a lensmaster wrote a lens with my name in the title demanding I come to the lens and justify my "militant atheist beliefs" to him. I reported it and they took it down, literally within minutes.

I read & saw that on the internet.People hate atheists because the latter are threatening to the American religious fabric. Mind you, the majority of religionists are only conveniently, even nominally religious. What hypocrites! Atheists are SINCE

I HAD such happen to me.  I was called a golddigger by the first distractor because I indicated that as an educated, successful woman I would only associate with men of the same caliber. This distractor indicated that I shouldn't be so choosy.  Then I was criticized by another distractor because I pointed out the disadvantages and detriments of the large/very large family on children. The second distractor  even attacked my parents.  However, karma is a bayitch, both distractors were eventually and subsequently BANNED.

Wait, what? We are supposed to associate with people other than our peers? Then why bother to go to the trouble of choosing your own friends, why not let these people choose your friends FOR you? Sour grapes, of course.

They were BITTER. One was uneducated & couldn't even write an intelligible sentence. The writings were illogical rants. The other distractor was from a large family who spoke in monosyllables & had an elementary school level vocabulary.

Well I mean freedom of speech kind of allows people to write what they want in regards to beliefs because those are optional. If the hub was directly insulting or harassing you or just pointless bashing, i'm sure that could be taken down or reported because it's obviously not an informative article or arguing their point. There's a fine line between a negative viewpoint and one that directly is meant to offend somebody.

Since she was actually named in it and it was full of personal attacks, it would seem like they should have reacted faster. There's really no misinterpreting the intent of something like that.
