Have some popcorn, your choice of Chex Mix, and the biggest batch of my special brownies you've ever seen! Oh yeah and some more Slim Jims and then there's Kool-Aid of all flavors to wash it down with! big_smile Hope everyone had a great day today and an awesome day tomorrow! Goodnight to all and to all a goodnight! smile

Hey there Tribers!  Just a quick "hello"  I was determined to finish up a hub at lunch today, so not much time for forum-ing.

Tried my hand at a book review this time.  I've never done one before, but I really liked the book I just finished, so I figured... "Why not?"  I guess time will tell how I did.

Anyway, hoping no one has fooled any of you too much!

    Have a great day!

Thank you mega1. In answer to your question, "what do you do for fun"?  Here's what I would like to do for fun today, I'll post one joke and the next person under me will post another.... and so on and so on... that way we all get loads of laughs today. Ok? So, here's the joke I posted:
        Smartest Man in the World
A doctor, a lawyer, a little boy and a priest were out for a Sunday afternoon flight on a small private plane. Suddenly, the plane developed engine trouble.

In spite of the best efforts of the pilot, the plane started to go down. Finally, the pilot grabbed a parachute, yelled to the passengers that they had better jump, and bailed out.

Unfortunately, there were only three parachutes remaining.

The doctor grabbed one and said "I'm a doctor, I save lives, so I must live," and jumped out.

The lawyer then said, "I'm a lawyer and lawyers are the smartest people in the world. I deserve to live."

He also grabbed a parachute and jumped.

The priest looked at the little boy and said, "My son, I've lived a long and full life. You are young and have your whole life ahead of you. Take the last parachute and live in peace."

The little boy handed the parachute back to the priest and said, "Not to worry, Father. The 'smartest man in the world' just took off with my back pack."
I hope you all enjoy! lol

Ok.. I'm having too much fun, so here's another joke. I hope you all enjoy it.

    "A Great Writer"
There was once a young man who, in his youth, professed his desire to become a great writer.

When asked to define "great" he said, "I want to write stuff that the whole world will read, stuff that people will react to on a truly emotional level, stuff that will make them scream, cry, howl in pain and anger!"

He now works for Microsoft, writing error messages. lol

Ok.. in honer of April Fool's day...here's one more.

    Clever Doggie
A butcher is working, and really busy. He notices a dog in his shop and shoos him away. Later, he notices the dog is back again. He walks over to the dog, and notices the dog has a note in his mouth. The butcher takes the note, and it reads, "Can I have 12 sausages and a leg of lamb, please."

The butcher looks, and lo and behold, in the dog's mouth, there is a ten dollar bill. So the butcher takes the money, puts the sausages and lamb in a bag, and places it in the dog's mouth. The butcher is very impressed, and since it's closing time, he decides to close up shop and follow the dog.

So, off he goes. The dog is walking down the street and comes to a crossing. The dog puts down the bag, jumps up and presses the crossing button.

Then he waits patiently, bag in mouth, for the lights to change. They do, and he walks across the road, with the butcher following. The dog then comes to a bus stop, and starts looking at the timetable.

The butcher is in awe at this stage. The dog checks out the times, and sits on one of the seats to wait for the bus. Along comes a bus. The dog walks to the front of the bus, looks at the number, and goes back to his seat. Another bus comes. Again the dog goes and looks at the number, notices it's the right bus, and climbs on.

The butcher, by now open-mouthed, follows him onto the bus. The bus travels thru town and out to the suburbs. Eventually the dog gets up, moves to the front of the bus, and standing on his hind legs, pushes the button to stop the bus. The dog gets off, groceries still in his mouth, and the butcher still following.

They walk down the road, and the dog approaches a house. He walks up the path, and drops the groceries on the step. Then he walks back down the path, takes a big run, and throws himself -whap!- against the door. He goes back down the path, takes another run, and throws himself -whap!- against the door again!

There's no answer at the door, so the dog goes back down the path, jumps up on a narrow wall, and walks along the perimeter of the garden. He gets to a window, and bangs his head against it several times. He walks back, jumps off the wall, and waits at the door.

The butcher watches as a big guy opens the door, and starts laying into the dog, really yelling at him.

The butcher runs up and stops the guy. "What the heck are you doing? This dog is a genius. He could be on TV, for God's sake!"

To which the guy responds, "Clever, my foot! This is the second time this week he's forgotten his key!" lol

I'm just hoping the weather holds through until after church on Sunday. Right now it is shaping up to be another beautiful Spring day here.

TS--you are doing great on the hubs. I've got a few I'm working on that I need to get finished and out there so I can work on some other things at the beginning of next week. My goal for the weekend is to have 9 hubs up but that might be pushing it.

Sam--thanks, I'm hoping for a really great weekend. Sunday is shaping up to be a non-hubber day for me at this point but that is still two days away, hehe.

    1. ThoughtfulSpot profile image72
ThoughtfulSpotposted 15 years agoin reply to this

Thanks Lynne! That's quite a goal.
I keep looking at the 30 day challenges, I'd love to do them, but for the moment, I think they are out of reach.  But, like I said, for now I'm happy with progress.  A few of my recent ones are getting pretty good traffic (for me... I have no idea what "pretty good traffic" on average for HP would be! lol )

I'd like to do another one or two over the weekend if I can, but just the sort of rambling personal ones... nothing I'd have to look up any keywords for. big_smile  Just have some stuff bouncing around my head that wants to get out.

We'll see.  The "Easter Bunny" has a lot of work to do the next few nights, so I'm not sure if there will be much time for hubbing.

Hey there tribers!  It's kind of a creepy, overcast day here in the Eastern Sierra Nevada, but still gorgeous!  Thought I'd drop in and say hello for once-sorry I've been out of the loop for so long.
I'm gonna have my 2ND hip replacement surgery next month and HAVE to quit smoking.
My doc prescribed Chantix, but even with insurance it was $75!!!  I can't afford that until next week.  Wow, has anybody else tried this stuff?  Does it work? lol

No, I can't find them here in Bishop and don't have a credit card, so I'm out of luck unless I go out of town...which I may do.  I think my addiction to them is mostly psychological!

Hey everybody! Yeah lunchtime!  (I have to remember to go get some food today instead of just hanging out on hubpages!) lol

Nice pics, Sam.  Is that you in the yellow top? big_smile

Hey Lynne - As far as I know its beautiful outside, but my office has no windows, so I'm not sure. roll

Lorlie - Nice to see you.  Bummer about the hip.  But, I've heard that it makes you feel so much better! (I guess you would know since this is your second.)  No rec's on the smoking stuff.. sorry.  I only smoked in college, and was able to quit when I left school without anything.  Probably a lot different quitting after 4 years than after a long time!  I'm sure there's tons of reviews on the net though.  I think moral support can be a big help.  I know a few states have help hotlines that you can actually call when you have a craving.  Does NV have anything like that?

    1. lorlie6 profile image73
lorlie6posted 15 years agoin reply to this

My stats are still there, Thoughtful.  Hmmm, but they've disappeared before, so just keep checking I guess!
I had my left hip replaced last July and it is a miracle surgery, but now I know what's involved and I'm scared of the recovery...it's long and way gross-I have to give myself shots in my stomach for a month-for blood clots.  But I'm okay with it, they don't really hurt.
I am going to go online about the reviews on Chantix and see what folks say.  Actually, I live in Ca. very close to Nevada, but I'm sure there must be support somewhere...thanks for replying!!!
PS: Have a good day at work-my hubby has Sat. work, too...

Yuck... Stomach shots... I don't mind needles, and that doesn't sound like any fun at all.  But, at least you know its a good result in the end.

Yup.  I work every Saturday, its part of my regular work week.  It can stink sometimes, but its been really helpful with daycare for the kids, and having a staggered schedule with my hubby means the kiddos are at home with one of us more, which I'm very thankful for.

Ok, gonna go run and get some food.  No need to be a starving writer today! lol

chewing gum, very strong mints, coffee and jumping around helped me!  I hope you do, Lorlie !  I also don't ever tell myself that I have quit and I do smoke one now and then - so that way I don't set myself up for failure.  I have a convoluted mind!  Good luck!

        1. lorlie6 profile image73

I just came out of that thread about "heterophobia" sort of frothing at the mouth - and I knew it would have that affect on me - why?  I don't know!  but now I really feel like a smoke!  ho ho - I won't though because I can't smoke here, so that is a good thing - I think that's mainly why I don't smoke much, because where I live and work it is not allowed.  and other places you have to go stand outside and find a place away from everyone, sort of like being shunned.  It is amazing to me that a society where almost everyone condoned smoking (even the secretaries in the high school smoked at their desks! when I was a kid)  now has such bans on smoking and everyone abides by those rules!  It is incredible what can be done in 20 or 30 years of radical bans!

  42. profile image0
    lynnechandlerposted 15 years ago

Lorlie do not, I repeat do not take the Chantix. I along with several friends tried this drug two years ago. It left all of us in a funk of not wanting to do anything but sleep. It didn't decrease the cravings and put all of us in a very depressed state. There are cases where people on this drug have become so depressed that they have committed suicide.

It is not worth the expense to do this to your system. I know you have to stop smoking, get the patch or the gum or whatever but please please do not use Chantix.

    1. profile image0
Justine76posted 15 years agoin reply to this

I had a very good freind who already had some problems, but wanted to quiet smoking. Long story short, she ended up in a hopsital on constant suicide watch after chantix.

  43. profile image0
    lynnechandlerposted 15 years ago

My boss ended up the same way Justine. I'm so sorry that your friend did too. For the first week, it was very uplifting but things went downhill for all of us that were trying to quit and while most of us gave up the Chantix by the end of the second week my boss stayed on it and ended up suicidal. He lost everything he had built for himself and his family.

I can't state how bad this drug is in the effort to quit smoking.

  44. lorlie6 profile image73
    lorlie6posted 15 years ago

Wow. Lynne and Justine, thanks for the warnings. Sh*t.  Okay then, I guess I'll do the patch, then.  Damn, that's very scary.
Well, at least the patches don't cost QUITE so much, although they are pricey, too!

    1. profile image0
Justine76posted 15 years agoin reply to this

they worked ok for me, but hubby would just rip them off and smoke. the gum worked quite well for me.

  45. profile image0
    lynnechandlerposted 15 years ago

I can't do the patch because of an allergy to the adhesive. Great huh? So, I'm still working on this one. I'm cutting back gradually on my own.

Mega, I like that idea. Maybe a big bowl of peppermints and every time I want to light up now that the weather is clearing go for a walk around the 40 acres we have.

Lorlie didn't mean to scare you. Do read up on the research but I think if in anyway you have depression issues already then you need to be very careful with the Chantix. I have a defunct thyroid which took years to get controlled where I wasn't constantly having mood swings and during the time I took the Chantix I was having extreme difficulty with my thyroid meds. This could have been a contributing factor not sure but like I said I could see what it was doing, and I quit taking it pretty quick.

Read and talk to your doctor about it before getting it for sure.

I'm pushing b vitamin complex - megadoses - to combat the huge mood drop that happens after sleeplessness and also, calm music and meditation - I know it feels kinda fun to not sleep for days and it creates a speedy high feeling, but man, is it ever hard on the body!  from my own experience . . .

I have the same thing, I'm trying different ways to combat that by picking up a craft project instead of a cig or a book, and I'm ok during the day but at night when I'm sitting here cruising the forums or whatever then I can't seem to put them down.

I don't smoke in the house any more, so that's kind of cool, but I do take smoke breaks a LOT.

WHY don't I smoke in the house, the tribers asked with unbridled curiousity?  Jest teasin'!  Because my daughter-in-law is 5 mo's pregnant and lives with us!  My FIRST grandchild!  lol

I wrote a hub about night owls.  It makes a lot of sense for people like us.
