And the snow came after all. Just started but there is already a slight accumulation.
Yippee! Freezer cleaning is so much fun. What the heck is that and when did I put this in here, oh a lime popsicle, yum,
I really don't know. It was pretty much a fail safe or I thought so now I have to regroup and see if I can find a job. Prob gonna end up trying to see what the temp services have or hit the eateries for a waitressing job.
I guess I missed the boat on nursing way back when and really should realize that I'm old and it's going to be dang hard to find anything now.
Ah, Lynne, I truly feel for you. I am un-able/willing to even try to go back to school at my age-53-because I don't have the same sharp mind I was once so proud of. At least you took the leap! That's so admirable.
How about other schools or programs? All the best, Lynne.
What I'm really trying to say is-Keep Trying!!!
Thanks Lorlei! I think it is time to just drop back and punt. I've put in application after application around here and nothing comes of them. Been at this since '08 so I got really frustrated and Pinkylee talked me into giving the school thing a shot. I did, and alas got another rejection.
Must of been a whopping big load of crap I created at some point for Karma to keep hitting me this hard. Yep, I'm hitting the pity party train right now, sorry.
I'll figure something out cause I can't believe I was meant to not thrive.
Sometimes the pity pot is WAAAY comforting, and if you need to be there, go for it. I really get alot of what you say, and from personal experience, fighting off crummy feelings only leads to worse ones.
Take care!
I immediately thought of Jr colleges - and programs for "re-entry" I bet you've tried that - but its a thought - the people at the local JC here were very nice to me when I took some accounting courses and its my own fault I didn't get certification, but I did get some very useful training and it helped a lot. Of course now I'm a caregiver, something 180 degrees different! but that's so typical for me - hey, how about caregiving? for elderly people - they seem to like their caregivers to be older. I know I certainly hit that ageist wall when I was looking for different work until I found this. . .
As always you guys are awesome. I really don't know what I am going to do but being here and seeing the petty issues isn't helping so I'm gonna go watch the snow.
*petty issues not in this forum just the generalness of other threads that seem to me to be petty*
I know what you mean - taking a break is a good idea - spent too much time in front of the puter lately - later . . .
well hello everyone!
i'll take a cream filled donut and mt dew ... thanks....
mama you are anamazing woman no matter what you do and i have all the faith in the world for you... i love you
cant believe it snowed there ... you know i want pictures lol but anyway hope everyone else is doing well.
Hello everyone
Thank you for your greetings. Have some birthday cake
Really enoyed Avatar. The overall story line is predictable, but the details are good and the visuals amazing. I tend to get fidgety in a lot of movies, but sat through all three hours without noticing the time.
Sorry about your rejection, Lynne. I know how hard it is to make the decision to study later on in life. I don't know what type of work you're aiming at, but is there any home study course that might give you some form of qualification as well as being interesting in its own right? I did one in book indexing, which gave me the first proof I could earn on a freelance basis. Indexing still accounts for about 20% of my earnings.
Hello fellow tribe members. Am I still allowed to enter? I have wine, cracker and canned cheese too, and a cigarette roller, you know? want some? LOL
Roll me one, Charlie!! I'm thawing out from playing in the snow!
Gotcha covered Habee and K@ri, so good to see you in the tribe as well. We always share here. Much love girls, and yes, snow in GA! I love it.
It's been fun tonight, but I am tired now and need my rest. goodnite all, Much love and peace.

well im glad to hear you decided to take my advice then. hopefully you'll get a lot of traffic for it.
Morning all! I'd appreciate it if you could all find something else to do at night. You're leaving me w/ WAY too many pages to catch up on.
Let's see what I can remember-
Pinky- Will have to check out the poetry. You know I honestly never even thought about posting any here?
WA - Happy Birthday! (belated)
Steve - Sorry I missed you in a silly mood... could've been fun. I'm good with silly.
Mega - Congrats with the freezer clean out. I so need to do that. But, its so cold outside my front door, I just can't seem to motivate myself to open a door INSIDE that's cold and stick my head in there.
Well, have a great day everyone. Swamped here as is usual lately, so I gotta get to workin'. Between being here half the week due to snow, and the day of overtime I'm putting in tomorrow... Its a very, VERY long week.
Arrgh, I slept for 13 hours solid last night and today! Time for brunch methinks.
Very, very jealous! (Of the sleep and the brunch. I'm hungry... and sleepy...)
Lynne - I wanted to post this separately so you'd have more of a chance of finding it. I'm so so sorry about the school. If its the first place you've applied to, I wouldn't throw in the towel yet. I'm not much a fan of rejection (who is, I guess... sort of a silly statement) either, but sometimes you have to take a few blows on the chin before you get in that solid upper cut. (Who AM I this morning? Boxing references... Really?!?!)
Anyway, because you are a "non-traditional" student, I would look into "non-traditional" programs. I'm sure you can't do an entire nursing education online, but you can probably get in a good year's worth of courses that way. (I know some teaching programs work that way anyway, where you can do all of your coursework online, and then must do the "brick and mortar" route for field experience.)
Don't give up! You should never give up on a dream like that. Check out programs geared towards adult learners. And, review your application and see what you might not be thinking of. If there is a "special interest" or "accomplishment" section, remember to include off the wall items too. Its not just about grades and awards and previous schooling, colleges love to see volunteer work, hobbies, and even all those years you spend being Mom. Try to find something that might catch their eye that no one else would think of.
Also, I would consider calling an advisor at the school and asking what it was about your application that put you in the "no" pile. It might not help with that school, but it might give you an insider's look at your next application.
And, as for the pity party... Indulge in it for a while.
In a former life, I used to do some acting, and one of my coach's/directors gave me the best advice someone has ever given me, and I've applied it to so many areas of my life, not just auditions (which I don't do anymore anyway! )
She told me that if I didn't get cast, I was allowed to give myself one full day where I cried, yelled, and generally wallowed. Then, I was to put it behind me and look forward to the next challenge. It really turned some things around for me. I know it doesn't sound profound, but for me it was. I was always either so down trodden by a rejection that I let it get to me for too long, or I was convinced I had to be "strong" and I tried to ignore all that negative emotion. Which did me no good either.
So, I don't know if it will work for you, but try giving yourself a day or two to be legitimately sad, frustrated, pissed, whatever, and then put it behind you! You're obviously an awesome lady, and I firmly believe the right opportunity will find you as long as you remain open to it.
TS, I had a cheese and onion toastie with red wine for brunch
Was unfollowed by someone 'cos I follow someone else. 30 minutes later, I have 2 new followers. Law of karma in action, heh, heh.
I would like to post some words of wisdom:
uh, so, like, wisdom huh? who am I kidding!
good morning everybody - coffee mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Good afternoon from my end of the world, moved on to white wine and about to attack the irrigation book index, yawn....
I just have to say I am so impressed by people who work at home and have the discipline to keep regular hours and finish projects! I am struggling to get a hub a week in and cannot seem to impose any sort of deadlines on myself. I guess I don't feel the NEED enough. yes, I declare I am a wanker! OH, well, pass the cheetos please!
Good Morning Tribe and for those of you who start your day across the great expanse of the sea, good afternoon!
TS: Thank you! I did have my pity party, ate all kinds of junk food, well sort of and had me a good cry.
Slept a good nights sleep and decided to get back to my original plan of making the online thing work for me. I posted a hub today about the snow we got. I also am working on the April issue of non-traditional holidays and writing ideas plus a really unusual topic that Pinkylee brought to my attention.
I have some things in the works but school really was a long shot. I'm going to be looking at trying to find some freelance work that pays a little better than the meager pennies we see from adsense too.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful and blessed day!
Hi mega1
I think it must be difficult when you're focusing on hubs which might or might not bring in revenue at some point in the future. I work from home, but I do translations or book indexes with a fixed deadline. It's a case of meeting the deadline or losing the client, so I really don't have much choice. If necessary, I work right through the night to meet a deadline, sometimes several nights in a row.
WriteAngled: Yes, if it were guaranteed income, I would probably work my butt off, compulsively, not stopping til finished. And over time I would get into a good routine, surely. I just haven't tried it yet! When I get some home jobs I will be much better off and so I will try. It sure would be nice to make more money. Unknowingly, you are actually helping me focus better, by your good example!
gosh, its way too early for pinacolada for me! even the cyber kind! But that does remind me of Jimmy Buffett - the perfect music for this morning!

oops - that was Alan Jackson - not Jimmy - oh well, it's five o'clock somewhere!

I've just received word that I've qualified to receive some "assured long-term" benefits for disability - on an application process that took over 2 years and many individuals/professionals as advocates' assistance. This means that I can evade the constant worry of homelessness, so long...

I have two hubs up so far. I am not entirely sure what a great ranking would be considering that they are quite new, but they are both above 60. Is this pretty good for newly established hubs? I would appreciate any feedback on my work and what can be done to improve for the future, as well as...

Wrote a new hub this afternoon, just for fun. It is topical, relating to a new news item today. Would someone like to read it in it's entirety and comment, please? Pretty please? I don't usually do 'satire' if that is what it could be described as, should I leave it as it is, or go a bit further...

I really need to write 2 hubs today to get close to being caught up here. Rather than falling further behind. Can anyone offer some hub topic suggestions please?Thank You
