No alcohol in this one guys sorry. Really healthy though made with pina colada yogurt, banana, a bit of orange juice, a bit of milk, some coconut, and a little vanilla bean ice cream. Very filling.
Still want one WA?
you can't have strawberries,
you can have a banana one though!
guess how I'm feeling right now - the electricity went off suddenly while I was working and I lost a couple pages - stupid me.
In high school, i never saved as i typed. 3 am, the day before my term paper was due....my kitten suddenly burst out from under the computer desk entangled in all the wires....my sobbing woke my mother, no small accomplishment...
MS Word, set to save every 10 minutes. Has saved my sanity on numerous occasions.
I lost a pretty long paper once through the non-saving issue as well. I'm a huge fan of autosave now.
WA - If you don't mind me asking, what is it that you do with indexing? You've mentioned it several times, and I'm not quite sure what it is...
And, yes please, on all offers of alcohol! Its been quite a long week, and no where near over yet!
hands you a jamaican rum shot and a rum and coke
The index you get at the back of a book, so that you can find the pages that interest you...
These have to be created by real people. Computers can create a concordance, which shows each mention of a word. However, that can lead to nonsense. Suppose an author makes a reference to "milk of human kindness". A computerised index would make a reference to "milk" and maybe to "dairy products", but these would be nonsensical.
A human indexer decides what is relevant, and also whether the concept links to other concepts ("see also" references). An indexer also decides what term is best for the intended audience of the book. For example, in a book for lay people, a reference to varicella will get a "see chickenpox" reference.
There are some accepted conventions and even an international standard for indexing. Therefore, it is better to do some training before starting on this work. The US American Society for Indexing and UK Society of Indexers both run distance learning courses. The pay is not too bad. Currently, I get $2 per page I index in a book, which works out at $16-30 per hour depending on the subject. The subjects can be deathly dull, but I did have a really interesting book on Egyptology once, although the author was a right pain and wanted to include totally inappropriate entries in the index.
That actually sounds pretty cool! I guess I never really thought about the index before... just something I took for granted. So... Thank you!
You must have to be so knowledgeable about so many things, and ready and willing to research. I applaud you for this grueling work - much more exacting in some ways than editing, even!
Not necessarily so very knowledgeable, but a good level of general knowledge helps. No, I wouldn't tackle a book on nuclear physics or higher mathematics, and law indexing is a specialty in itself. My background is biomedical, but I've had only a couple of indexes in that field. I've tackled education, conference organisation, chicken rearing, wastewater management, to name a few, and am currently doing one on irrigation and drainage... yawn...
Anyone have a hub that does well for them that is unexpected?
Just curious. I haven't had time to write very many, and haven't really started targeting an audience or using SEO or anything (still learning), so my hits aren't very high to begin with, but I am still quite suprised by the performance of a hub I wrote on refinishing a slate tile floor. I've more hits on that than any of my other hubs, and it will die down for a little while and then suddenly I'll have 5 or 6 hits in a day on it again. I just sort of shrug my shoulders. We happened to be refinishing our floor, so I thought I may as well write about it.
My wire coat hanger craft projects one is hands down the one that performs the best and then the one on tom cruise and nicole kidman movies.
everybody drunk or sleeping? Hi Tribe! WAKE UP! that should get a reaction . . . hehe heheheh hahahah hhhhhaaaaaaaaa!
fresh baked home-made whole wheat bread - still warm outa the oven!
Why would a female vamp kill high dollar patrons to a strip bar?
You have alcomahol I'm sure you can fix yourself a nice little toddy to share with us all! I know you won't drink what I'm having anyways,
i dont munch butts you know that ... i like munching other "things" lmao
pinkylee, I owe you an apology. For a stupid reason on my part, I am the one that resurrected your "I'm sorry" thread. I didn't mean to bring it back to life for you. So sorry and I am so pleased to see you now enjoying HP so much!
im not sure you did or not but its all good all is well and im having fun hubbin and chillin with everyone ... no worries hun
I made reference to the thread, posted the link like a 7th grader and it was reawakened. It wasn't until after the fact when I saw the thread back up at the top did I realize how it might have affected YOU... The innocent one. The one I felt I needed to defend. You handled the whole thing in a very mature fashion and my hat's off to you. Hey, I didn't know that was your mom! How cool is that. She loves her girl, I can tell.
oh, everyone, just popping in to say hi, need to fill you in on my latest project! Yes. well, I'm going to become a sock puppet! see, I thought I knew what that was, but evidently I did not. in this brave new world here in the forums (and other forums, as well! evidently) sock puppets are shills who invade otherwise peaceful, happy discussions to stir up controversy and then they focus on one unsuspecting post-er and drive them away from the forum - or not - maybe that isn't what they are. May be they are just - (maybe) SOCKS!

I was just pondering the notion of how much sex will be exchanged around the world today and thought, does this help the enviornment?
Well, it helps mine !
Surely by being here we are all part of a hubber tribe?
Re being a hippie, as Steve Andrews/Bard of Ely I was once called "South Wales most hippy guru" in Venue magazine by David Owens. I have also been included as a main character in Last of the Hippies book by CJ Stone.
I have never thought of myself as one though! lol
Happy V-day everyone.
I'm getting a special meal cooked for me ) And he cooks most of the time anyway, because he's retired and I work. I'm very spoiled.
Thanks for the greetings, pinky. Choccy cherries - yum!

I've just received word that I've qualified to receive some "assured long-term" benefits for disability - on an application process that took over 2 years and many individuals/professionals as advocates' assistance. This means that I can evade the constant worry of homelessness, so long...

I have two hubs up so far. I am not entirely sure what a great ranking would be considering that they are quite new, but they are both above 60. Is this pretty good for newly established hubs? I would appreciate any feedback on my work and what can be done to improve for the future, as well as...

Wrote a new hub this afternoon, just for fun. It is topical, relating to a new news item today. Would someone like to read it in it's entirety and comment, please? Pretty please? I don't usually do 'satire' if that is what it could be described as, should I leave it as it is, or go a bit further...
