Well the storm has started here.

Our temperatures dropped from the 40's to 12 degrees in about an hr and a half.

Snow is falling & it's windy.  Bitter cold.

I pray for everyone that has been affected in one way or another..
Including those flight delays and being stuck at the airports.

    Stay safe everyone.

    & Alyssa...
It's time for you to write...your muse connects with these storms.

I'll be waiting to read your next masterpiece.

I'll be in touch as I can...

Brenda? I'm sorry to hear that.
Weather variations differ all over the world. I thought it should be 'sunny' and 'warm' across the pond yonder there.
But here in my part of the planet earth, the temperatures has dropped from 37*C TO 23*C.
It's sunny and extremely warm here. You may love it, but I don't. don't ask me why. I'm too warm-blooded to bear even the lower temperature. I've been sleeping with my clothes off!
But it's always chilly in the day time. I think the prevailing North-East trade winds has been diverted away from the Sub-Sahara West Africa.
Currently, it's windy, and this comes from the Atlantic Sea Coastline. Yea, I live at the precinct of a water front, and the heat is unbearable.
Stay safe everyone, and have a wonderful Christmas weekend.
      Merry Christmas, Brenda!

        Miebakagh.  .
When those temperatures get that hot it is definitely unbearable.
But this cold is unlike anything I quite remember.

        The temperature is - 8 F ( -22 c) with a wind chill of negative -35 f (- 37.22).

I remember blizzards when I was younger, but not these frigid temperatures....especially staying for so long.

        I can't imagine Christmas in a heat wave...but have a great one.

        Merry Christmas!

I don't know where you live, Brenda, but here in Arkansas, I join you. The temperature was 7 degrees last night with a high of 14 today, and we just got a dusting of snow. I'm just glad it didn't get down into the minus temps like it did at your house. The heat went off in our house last night and we got up to a cold house this morning. But since we live in an underground house, it was about 60 degrees, give or take a degree or two. It certainly felt colder.  I don't like anything less than 72. We didn't venture outside today. Merry Christmas, Brenda.

        Doris...
        I live in Ohio.

It is still -2 degrees with the wind chill - 27.

Definitely a cold night, but so far I've managed to keep 2 rooms warm enough.

I've spent most of the day lying in the bed...but at least I'm warm.

I sure hope it warms up soon.

Our little town is virtually closed.

Snow drifts making most roads impassable on the outskirts of town.

The internet connection fades in and out, but I'm amazed....I can still use it on at least one device....one mobile phone is getting a weak signal....but it works.

To others...this storm may not seem like much, but I don't remember a cold bitter chill like this one.

      Take care & Merry Christmas!

I'm also in the middle of the snow storm.

I've dealt with such situations so many times, it doesn't bother me.  We know how to handle these times.

It is actually quite a thing to see.  I worry about the animals outside, but they know how to handle these situations as well.

It is still a good day.

This snow storm will eventually pass.

Since we have already had the shortest day of the year occur (December 21st), we are practically cruising into spring as the days get longer.

Brenda, some 30 yearsago, the  Sahara and the North East trade winds prevail over West Africa.                                             In Nigeria where I live I filled my stove with 2 litres of kerosine and lite the stove. I level the winks so that the fire become bluish...and it burns from 6.00 pm to 6.00 am. Because I've no fire place likewise.                                       Otherwise you'll hear my bones crack and pop.

I don't have that either...but it will get better soon.

My bones might be aching a little tomorrow from lying in bed all day...lol.

I really don't want to live anywhere that has weather like this....

            Making the best of it.

Brenda, unfortunately, it's mother nature.                                      But whether we can help it or not, we still can't control the seasons. My christmas is going to be bland. Enjoy your life.

Brenda Arledgeposted 15 months agoin reply to this

I like that...we are practically cruising into Spring.

You must live north towards the likes of Minnesota, where they are used to having these types of temperatures.
      Here in Ohio....it's quite rare.

I worry most about the electric...hoping it stays on.

My family room is already freezing...I suppose because of the direction of the wind....but the heat is on in that room.

I just partitioned the room with a blanket...hoping that helps.

As for the animals...definitely worried about a stray cat I feed...but haven't seen it & haven't ventured out.

Have a great day in your part of the world.

        Thanks,

I would suggest getting some small electric heaters and putting them in different rooms.  It does make a difference.  We also use small kerosine heaters in different rooms.  I know that not everyone has a fireplace.

Stay warm and realize it will all be over soon.

        1. Brenda Arledge profile image81
Brenda Arledgeposted 15 months agoin reply to this

          Trust me...that's being utilized.

I had 2 electric heaters in family room & it still didn't get over 62 degrees.

Definitely got air holes around a window & under the house vents.

Hi Brenda, thanks for the prayers. They are okay, just stuck in the house since last Thursday, no Christmas festivities. It's horrible. Many deaths, still finding bodies in the snow, in cars, in homes. It's a nightmare. sad Pray for the city of Buffalo.

Let God arise and intervene. I pray that the spirit of death go back to the buttomless pit. Everyone stay indoors. Use commonsense. Listen to the local weather forecast. Keep warm and safe. A freezing snow or weather condition is not to be tore with. Don't go out when it's better to stay indoors.

When that 4 ft of snow starts Melting they will have more problems.

Thank you for your concern, John. It's really awful. Miebakagh and Brenda, thank you for the prayers. They are needed. The hurricane-force winds and below zero temperature made it more treacherous than anyone could imagine. People were stranded because they were already out and trying to get home when it hit hard. God's intervention is needed for healing. Many people are traumatized by the ordeal and some grieving for loved ones who died unexpectedly. My Dad and sis have not left their homes since last Thursday. A neighbor shoveled my dad's driveway. He's taking him to get his medicine tomorrow when the driving ban is lifted. My dad is 98 and still kicking.

Well, (sigh) you were right, Bren. I didn't win. I just got off the phone with him. He went out in his car, went to the drugstore for his medicine, went to the post office to mail his bills and inquire about his mail not being delivered since last Thursday, then went to the grocery store. He reminded me of his strong faith and that the Lord has him covered with protection. He says he's been around too long to have anxiety or to worry. All I could do is laugh and say, 'yes, Dad." He added, "you know your dad knows how to drive! Now I'm going to go fix my dinner."
                    Lord, I cannot with him . . .

There is a small window in the family room that definitely needs replaced.   Air is pouring in from around it.

I am managing to keep 2 small rooms warm enough & thankfully my refrigerator is stocked.

It is cold in the kitchen...but I'll manage.

I'm sorry about your situation, Brenda. I just read an article from a major news organization here. Much of Canada (including where I live) has disruptions due to snow and freezing rain, and the situation is similar in many parts of the United States. The winters in my part of Canada are usually wet. Any snow that falls soon melts instead of staying for days. We live in strange times.

'How do animals survived in the outside?' Animals have fur, feathers, and scales. These helps the beasts preserve heat generated from inside the body to keep warm, and to protected them against cold.
They also have fat glands to that effect. Some buried themselves underground with plenty of foodstuffs that can last for months until conditions are better.
But the most important factor for the survival of the nimals in such a harsh condition is they instict. They naturally knows what to do.
