I find hubpages highly user friendly taking into consideration all other similar types of writing sites and the hub community  is very amiable-very much like family type.

Thanks for the link Darkside, it was a very informative read.

Whichever site you use, it's what you make of it.

This article contains very useful information!

Darkside, have you written on what niches each site conveys best? Is there information somewhere about what sorts of content works well for each site, Hubpages vs Squidoo?

Great news!  I never was interested in Squidoo anyway.

I have never had much success with Squidoo, it is very spam filled, which in turn reflects poorly on anything you write for them.

Hubpages has a lot of quality content, which in turn reflects well on your content.

I think Squidoo went downhill very quickly, i remember when it used to be alright, but in the space of a year it went from quality, to barely English dross.

i guess we all like to think that the grass is greener, but I'm really happy with Hubpages.  I'm considering Squiddoo too, as I guess it makes sense to put your eggs in as many baskets as possible, but the stats speak for themselves.

Squidoo's payment distribution is flawed a bit. In HP you share impression so you know how much you've earned so far. On squidoo, they don't reveal much stuff to writers so it's based on tier and chances of getting paid are slim. I can't trust that system so using it in favor in any way possible.

And delete this two-year-old thread; it’s obsolete.

    Hi HubPages,

    Clarification:

Here is the message I should have posted in the first place. Sometimes I forget that people aren’t mind readers.

    The Problem:

Anytime anyone, which is everyone, accesses the HubPages-Official-Announcements forum; Squidoo gets free advertising/publicity.

    The Solution:

The HubPages-vs.-Squidoo topic in the HubPages-Official-Announcements forum should be deleted.

For purposes of free speech, someone can start a HubPages-vs.-Squidoo topic in some other forum.

    An Alternate Solution:

If you wish to preserve the existing HubPages-vs.-Squidoo threads and posts, then move the existing HubPages-vs.-Squidoo out of the HubPages-Official-Announcements forum and into the Hubber’s- Hangout forum (or wherever).

I can't imagine why HP would want to do that.  Yes, Squidoo is being mentioned - but what HP have, in this thread, is post after post of unsolicited customer testimonials, saying that HubPages is better than Squidoo.

It's like the Pepsi vs Coke challenge:  sometimes it works to mention a competitor, if your customers like your product better.

I don't really even think squidoo and hubpages are in the same market of competition.  I tried squidoo again, but found that the layout they forced my page in to was not really friendly for how I like ot optimize my adverts, nor was it a good layout to look at.

    I'll stick with my hubpages!

Awesome information Jason, thanks for sharing! There are so many great hubbers with some really good quality writing here, it's almost no surprise the results HP ends up with. Big thanks to everyone who contributes to the quality of this site! smile

I also don't think mentioning squidoo will hurt HP. I use both and they are really not that much alike. Writing a lens does not feel at all like writing a hub.

So if someone who did try HP saw this thread and decided to see squidoo, I don't think it'd be a big deal. If they try squidoo and realize they like hp more, no harm no foul. If they try squidoo and decide they like that one more, chances are they would have given up on HP with or without squidoo as its competition. And if they try it and decide they like both for different reasons (as I do), then they'll use both.

I use both Squidoo and Hubpages, BUT from my experience Hubpages seems to rank far better in Google than Squidoo by far. I use both for different things and they both have different features I like and dislike.
I have been very happy with my Hub Traffic vs. Squidoo and will continue to write for both, but again Hubpages in my personal opinion out ranks in Google.

It is a matter of preference which layout you like better, but like others have said it is like comparing Coke to Pepsi.

Thanks Jason, it great to know that hub pages has been able to keep its traffic high and it has been able to do that with integrity and not have do things like like allow porno or things that would lower the quality of this wonderful community.

Yes, it's been a couple of years. Fortunately, we've continued to grow and are now ranked #74 in terms of US traffic in the world. Lots of original, high-quality content continues to be published on the site, so we're not completely surprised. Of course, it's gratifying to see the search engines send more and more visitors to all of your Hubs. smile

It is great to see the growth patterns for Hubpages.  I have found the community here to be wonderful, and the team and mechanics of the site very easy to work with.  I have been seeing steadily increasing income also.
