Whew, I really have to check this thread more often, took me half an hour to get here.

I had left over pizza for dinner but I'm still hungry. I'll probably have toast later smile

I've never used eh? But, I'm not a native Canadian. I've only been here for 39 years.

I have eaten Poutine and can't do without my Tim's.
    I don't like butter tarts
I love my Jos. Louis and my Lune/Moon.
And I have to visit Swiss Chalet or Harvey's at least once a month

You're obviously an Eastern Canadian eh? Lol.

Lived there briefly but I'm a Westerner by nature.

We tend to populate Starbucks or Blenz.
      Eat loads of sushi.
Drink Granville Island beer (or one of the many micro brewery's in BC.)
Eat at Moxies or Cactus Club Cafe.
And definitely eat Poutine too! big_smile

Actually, Susan lives pretty close to me.  Quebec seems to be most famous for poutine, although you can buy it here and there in Ontario here.  I've never had it, but I hear it's really yummy

People here in Southern California have their regional pastimes such a putting Lakers flags on their cars and wearing Raiders shirts.  We love Starbucks down here and you can find us there at any part of the day, but now bar-b-que fast food is becoming a new up and coming thing.  Starbucks, subway, and those type of places are still probably the most popular here.  Someone should write a hub about popular hang out spots by each region in Canada for us Americans smile.

Just for those of us with a poor education---what is vegemite?

        1. Shirley Anderson profile image74
Shirley Andersonposted 17 years agoin reply to this

I'm not 100% sure, althought I should be (my son & daughter-in-law are vegans), but my guess is that it's similar in texture and spreadability to marmite, but made out of vegetables rather than beef.

If Eric comes back, maybe he can answer and dispell the mystery.

It's a black, tar like substance that's compulsory eating for Australians.
Unfortunately, the company that makes it has been sold to an American company sad

Hope you can stomach the Vogon like poetry on that page.

And Shirley - yes, Vegemite is often compared to Marmite - which tastes really funny to us Aussies.
(It's a yeast extract, made from the remains of beer brewing. No beef or vegetables in it AFAIK)

I believe you, I don't really know.  My ex-husband and in laws came from England, so we had it in the house.  I would never have known about it otherwise.  I've never eaten it (salty!), but it adds a really nice flavour to gravy.

let me just say---there's a reason that as you get older the pain of some memories fade.

One prime example--shoe shopping with a 4 1/2 year old who doesn't want to be there!  A 4 1/2 year old that has a "Princess and the Pea" affilication where his feet are concerned!  A
4 1/2 year old that swears he's to old for a nap, they're for babies!  A 4 1/2 year old who's sole goal today was to see how far he could push Grandma!!

And this is why some animals eat their young!

LA DEE DA        LA DEE DA

(Ruthie singing to herself as she wanders aimlessly through the passageways known as Hubland.)

She sees no one.   She hears nothing.

She travels further and deeper into the shadowed halls.

    Wait!!

    What was that?

A shuffling sound coming from behind her.

It was Stooge himself stepping out of the shadows to block her path!

    RUTHIE17posted 17 years ago

"What are you doing here?" she gasps.

  34. profile image0
    RUTHIE17posted 17 years ago

Then, before she has a chance to react, it happens---!!

  35. profile image0
    RUTHIE17posted 17 years ago

Stooge hands her a warm cup of cocoa, tells her "Goodnight!" and is gone.

He has slipped back into the shadowed recesses from wince he came as quietly as he had appeared.

Ruthie tightens her grasp on the warm cup and thinks to herself-----

    RUTHIE17posted 17 years ago

"Gosh, this is pretty good stuff!  Bet I could go to sleep now!!"

And with that thought she is off once again to slumberland.

Stooge has a timer fixed in his head. Every half an hout, he has this urge to check on Ruthie. Has she slept, is she still holding the cup, is she alone...? He cares too much for her. Half-asleep, he is praying that Ruthie is off now, that she is sleeping, dreaming of hubland, looking innocent and humming La Dee Daaa...

The only thing I know to do would be to start it out like this.

Shirely Anderson is/loves/ writes, etc... It is said that to do it as if you are writing about someone else works much better than saying I am/love/write, etc...

Thank-you.  Yes, I considered writing it as if I was talking about someone else, but it didn't help me much, don't think I tricked myself well enough, I'm going to have to try again.

Maybe if you had someone else to write one for you. Someone who knows you very well.

Thx, SirDent.  I think I'll call you Mr. Clever Pants today.....it's a step up from Smarty Pants, kinda like a promotion.

    1. Shirley Anderson profile image74
Shirley Andersonposted 17 years agoin reply to this

Perhaps everyone does.  We don't like to talk about ourselves perhaps, or at least prefer not to sell ourselves.

      1. profile image0
SirDentposted 17 years agoin reply to this

Isn't that what a bio is supposed to be? You are marketing yourself to get people to read what you write. A bio must be interesting and informative while selling yourself to the public.
