Yes I have a hub on this topic.

      Here http://hubpages.com/hub/Japan-89-Earthquake-News

Just remember if you live on the Pacific Coast get to higher ground as soon as possible. May God bless everyone who is being affected in Japan and along the Pacific coast right now.

Google search page has a tsnami alert reaching to Hawaii and New Zealand, so hopefully all the people there are checking their local news and heading to safety accordingly. Our prayers and thoughts for everyone!

It is one thing watching but those around the Pacific coasts should be very aware that a tsunami could be heading your way. I do not wish to be alarmists but it would be prudent to take precautions and check the bulletins on a regular basis.
I am sure I say from all hubbers that we are thinking of those affected, in a positive way.

they say they are monitoring it, but should be less than a metre by time it gets to NZ and Australia, usually just resulting in unusual currents for a few days.  The ones in danger are those closer like Hawaii, but many islands might be okay if water just goes around (unlike Japan which had big shelf of land with no-where for water to go)

There was a very small mention on BBC breakfast news that Hawaii might get some smaller waves hitting them (didn't think it sounded dangerous but the surfers might be rushing out to the beaches there now). I actually just emailed my Aunt who lives there to ask her if she has been given warnings or not, basically if it was alarmist reporting I got this morning or not. I think the point is this is going to be a huge disaster. My heart goes out to the people in Japan and everywhere that will be effected sad

Tsunami warning for Hawaii as well.

The footage on the BBC this morming has been horrific, but so far the authorities have said that there has been multiple injuries but no fatalities

Seems like that whole fault line/volcanic system is becoming active

The fatality count is going to go up dramatically... I watched trucks and cars driving to escape, not to mention people on foot just get swept away....  There was no chance of escape..

The Miyagi Prefecture is home to roughly 2 million people....tightly packed together (google earth the area...). I used the airport as a waypoint to measure (crudely) the area rapidly devastated (and still continuing now) by these waves...

This is going to be bad...

While the Tsunami warnings are sent out to all of us in the Pacific Basin, the height of the waves could vary from 30cm to 10 metres. Places such as the east coast of Australia and west coast of South America may be on the lower end of the scale.

Hawaii and Guam have evacuated the low lying areas in readiness.

Thanks PD. I think they just announced that the first wave already probably reached the north part of our country. The most optimistic forecast is just 1 meter (shoulder level) and I really hope that is the only level it will reach.

My prayers go out to the people in Japan, especially to my countrymen.

      1. Pearldiver profile image66
Pearldiverposted 13 years agoin reply to this

You are most welcome Em... good to know you guys are ok. though I am a bit concerned that 1 mtre only comes up to your shoulders mate! Are you being compressed there by excessive gravity hmm

        Be Well and Take Care.

        1. emievil profile image67
emievilposted 13 years agoin reply to this

ooopppss, have to re - check. Not used to meters, but just feet. Anyway, just heard the news that the wave did not reach 3 and a half feet - which they said is only 1 meter. So I'm thankful for that.

and hey PD, 1 meter shoulder length is pretty normal here. Lots of my people don't reach 5 feet in height big_smile.

edit: I realized my post may be misplaced in this serious matter and I apologize if this is the case.

The BBC has just reported 32 dead and that there are many missing. There is also an oil refinery just outside of Tokyo burning out of control, and some of the Japanese nuclear power plants have shut down automatically.

Let's hope that the missing are all found safe and that the number of fatalities does not go up.

To all affected in the Japan Earthquake.
We are still praying for you. I am sure our government will drop everything, unlike Hurricane Katrina, and give aid as need. I am sure you will start seeing money from the USA as soon as today, while us Americans had to wait weeks and if not months. I am not blaming you for anything that went wrong, but what would you do if your government said "They tried there hardest, but are seen weeks later giving to a different country within hours.

Unlike our citizens who where giving $1,000 debit cards then spent them mostly on drugs, I am sure you will not make the same mistake as our people did. No strip clubs or plastic surgery with the money our government gives you. If you do you are in the same category as Us Americans
