Is listening to classical music good for your brain?

I heard that classical music is improving people's brain and the ability of learning. I also heard that classical music help plants to grow faster, also that cows which are listening to classical music are bringing more milk. Which of these things are true, and which are myths?

Indeed, yes it has been quantified; I apologize I cannot reference the research. Keep in mind, it has only been quantified for classical music. Although I am almost ready to present a hypothesis that listening to Neil (not so) Young is genius!

If you know how to meditate properly buddy, try to get into a meditative state whilst listening to music..Really concentrate & imagine that there in the room with you, & you can get to a state where you feel like there's a live band playing.

I have heard this before but I think it was an unsubstantiated claim that listening to Mozart improves brain function. I think that it was shown that people that were tested, showed improvement involving spatial, shape or geometry type tests or tasks, but the ability did not sustain or continue on later. To me it sounds like it helped some though.

This is going to sound strange to a lot of people, but I am a self professed expert at "listening" to music!lol....Of course everyone can listen to music right?, but most people I see are doing it wrong..What I mean is it doesn't matter what style of music you pick to play, what's important is you find the music & songs that you Love listening to....Finding those songs/tunes encourages a person to learn & then sing along with the tunes, which means the person will start to feel the strong good "&" bad emotions that comes with a great tune or song....So if classical music does it for you then great choose that, but this is the most important tip I could give regards music being good for the mind....It's only great to listen to music "at home" if that's all your doing at the time, & it's not good for your mind to listen to music whilst cooking/cleaning driving/working showering/bathing etc because that's "multi-tasking" the mind = not good..Basically when you want to listen to some great tunes do what you would do if they were in the room with you, which would be to stop what your doing sit down & listen, "or" dance around singing your heart out, but "not"/"never" hoovering at the same time..It's makes your life seem boring at first with no back ground music, but it's key to improving your "concentration levels"..Before you know it your mind will be sharper/clearer, & your music will sound better than ever before because you will be fully concentrating on just that..It's all meditation time (listening to music), if you know how to do it. :-)

You mean that every kind of music is good for brain, when you listen to it alone, without doing anything which might distract you? I think you are right because many times I felt better after listening to music before going to sleep.

Classical music has the exact same effect on your brain as any other kind of music you like (well, assuming you like classical music). People just really want it to have some kind of permanent positive effect so that they can act superior about how classy they are for listening to Chopin.

You're right, there are some people who feel superior, because of the music their are listening to.

It's certainly something that's often a joy to listen to. My father had a cousin with a dairy farm down near Hamilton (Victoria) and years ago he asked Dad to find him an old wireless. Dad found one, fixed it and took it down there. His cousin was delighted - he said the cows let down their milk much better when listening to music, especially soothing classical music.

I would say yes and classical music - for me at least - is a great way to de-stress when I'm agitated due to other noise around me. I love many different kinds of music, but if I feel frazzled, classical is what I would choose to sooth my nerves - works everytime.

I suppose Gheorghe Zamfir would help the brain. Never heard about music and cows though.
