Tell me how to make money from Hubs

I have never attempted to do anything that could make me some money from hubs though it is  part of the game. God/Mark/Ernest know it is not because I have lots of it but mainly because I have somehow gained the impression that it is all too much work for too paltry a return.

Can someone be good enough to tell me how it is all done and whether the effort is worth it. I am ready to publish as many hubs as needed in order to earn a decent amount of money.

Please do not give an URL to go to. I request that you tell me (and countless others, who always meant to ask but never did)

    Thanks awfully.

Well I certainly can't tell you everything because there's books upon books and websites upon websites that handle that.  If I were to compile it all into on easy how-to, I would write a book and then send you a link to buy it! =P

What I can do, is point you in the right direction of what you need to learn in order to do what you've asked.

Before you even write the hub you need an adsense account and amazon affiliate account, then link them up to your hub account through the settings.

First, you want to find things that are popular to write about. You may be an expert at underwater basket weaving, but if no one is searching the internet to read about that, then no one's going to find your hubs.  The downside to this is that the more popular it is, the more competition you have, and the harder it is to get ranked in Google and found by searchers. It's good to have a niche and build upon that.  I'm working on video game stuff, I like to post hubs about games that are coming out, or just came out.  I rank pretty well because I get that stuff up and out there before others, giving me slight upper hand. It takes a lot of me watching Gaming news to keep up with everything.

Next, you need to figure out the keywords for said topic.  You want to hit on that stuff as much as possible, but w/out using one keyword too much. Make sure your main keyword is in the title.  If you search in Google for "Keywords External Tool" you can find a free tool you do not have to download that will help you figure out the keywords you want to hit.

Now, you write the hub.  Make sure it is well organized and full of great content!  I shoot for a MINIMUM of 500 words.  More the merrier, so they say.

Once the hub is written you need to get it indexed, build backlinks, etc.  This stuff is all grouped under one term: SEO.  I can't teach you SEO, that is something that would take hours for me to type up.  There's plenty of hubs here about SEO, and plenty of free websites that teach SEO.

      Hope that helps.

I pay my rent with my Hub earnings.  I think the effort is worth it.

I don't make anything helping other site users, unless they actually pay me, which is why I and a lot of other Hub authors don't do it.  Given that there is a wealth of free material all over this site that can be read by people who aren't lazy, it only makes sense.

All you have to do is read the FAQ and the information in the learning centre. If you're too lazy to read the help centre that is your problem. If you have a question that you can't easily find the answer to, I'm happy to help but I am too busy making money off my hubs to spoon feed anyone.

When there is an entire FAQ and learning centre devoted to the basics as well as countless hubs devoted to teaching people how to create an income stream using keywords and SEO, I think this type of question is rather silly. The forum is also full of answers to this kind of question in varying detail.

I expect it (although still don't think it's a very smart question) from a newbie. But someone who has been here ten months and had time to learn about the hubpages community?

            Oh, I like that, thanks!

Yeah, I'm trying to be in a good mood--trying to lift myself up from a weekend that had us saying goodbye to a loved one who'd passed...

We celebrated his life, now I'm trying to celebrate and appreciate my own, in his honor...if that makes sense...

            Hopefully, it'll be contagious... big_smile

Hi Third Millennium! I definitely know that if you want to write hubs and earn money you can and it is worth it. I think the best thing you can do right now is to get into the habit of writing.  If you want to earn money then you have to look at it like it's a job and you have to have a lot of hubs, not just 22.  Lily Rose, Habee, Whitney, they're very prolific and have been able to achieve the $100 benchmark in much less time than most people and have started getting to $100 a month, then close to a thousand a month

Start with a goal such as 1 hub a week.  Don't think about keyword research until you feel you're ready. By having a lot of hubs, you'll create a presence in the Internet and have vehicles which adsense can use to place ads on.  Your readers may click on these ads and that's how you get paid.  It's not a lot at first, but if you want to take it step by step, get used to writing a lot.

it's not necessarily the number of hubs. there are hubbers here with less hubs who make decent monthly payouts. it's writing what people are searching for and using keywords that bring clicks, quality hubs.

it would be nice to have this house payment taken care of with hubs. a nice goal.

I wondered about whether or not it was possible to make money doing this. So I looked around the site and I found more free information here on Hubpages than I could get from spending a fortune on books. It's all here and if you really want to make money then read it. I would also recommend studying the Hubs of people like Misha, Mark Knowles and Sufidreamer. Their Hubs are models of how to monetize.
I've done all that. I read and studied and took notes until I went into information overload. Then, when I felt like I'd figured it all out, I wrote a Hub on my favorite dirty jokes. It makes no money and makes no sense. But readers seem to enjoy it and it's a lot more fun.

    It is hard.

I have been at this as long or longer than anyone.  I had already been writing on the Internet for more than a decade before Adsense even existed, so in spite of the fact that the SEO gurus here think I'm an idiot, I think I can offer some advice worth listening to.

    You have three basic choices:

    Expertise
    Volume
    Targeting

It is possible to combine those - I do both Expertise and Volume.  By the way, although much of the concentration here is on Adsensense and Affiliate sales, there are other ways to make money from your writing and some of them pay pretty darn well.  I'll touch on those later.

Targeting is the method most of the "experts" (and yes, I put it in quotes because most really are not) recommend.   In some ways it is the easiest, but it does still requite both skill and effort.  It involves finding keywords that you think can make money and writing about those subjects.

Volume is just blasting away with anything you feel like writing about.  That's what I do.  Write enough and you will hit gold and platinum every now and then, sometimes to your complete surprise.

Expertise is picking a niche and writing so much in that are that Google has to see you as authoritative.  I do that too.

If you are just going to diddle away and write unfocused stuff, you need to write a lot.  If you are going for expertise, not quite as much, but still more than targeting.  If you are going to target, you are going to be competing with people who have been doing it much longer, who own very expensive tools to assist their efforts and can often afford to hire writers and teams of link builders.

And that brings us to promotion.  Personally, I don't do any.  At the most I announce on Twitter and Facebook and often don't even bother with that.   I still get traffic (a quarter million p/v monthly) and I still make money, but there is no doubt that lying to Google and building fake links from various places can benefit you.  I detest that sort of activity, but I am in a definite minority and it is probably an absolute necessity if you are going to do targeting.

Now, money.  As I said, Adsense and Affiliate sales are great.   I make about a grand from Google monthly, $60 to $100 from Chitika and $125 to $175 from affiliate sales.  I make another $150 from selling my own ebooks and a few hundred from answering email questions at $30 a pop.

I also sell mail servers.  Some of that income has nothing to do with the web site, but I know that several hundred per month would NOT come if I were not writing about email so frequently.

The rest of my income comes from consulting and that really always has been the main reason for my writing on the web.  The articles help establish credibility and expertise and I have many, many customers who pay $560 to $760 yearly for support because they found me on the web.  THAT is my main business and why I wouldn't even think of giving the site up for less than a low six figure offer.

You CAN make money on the internet.  It takes WORK.   That's the part people often forget to mention, isn't it?

OK, that's my brain dump.   I probably should have made it a Hub, but if I had I couldn't have pointed you at it, so here you go.   Maybe I'll take that and make it into an expanded hub later.  Sure, why not tick off the SEO gurus even more?  smile

Wow Pcunix, I think that is the most detailed answer I have ever read on a forum!  After I finish this, I am straight over to your hubs to check them out!

With regard to making money with hubpages thirdmillenium, I think you can have too much information when you are getting started and the trouble is that most of it is conflicting so you think plan A is best one day, plan B is best the next and then you end up in a sort of agony of indecision that paralyses you so you have to read some more and then you get more confused and this just stops you doing the thing that actually does make you money - WRITING!

So, I guess what I am saying is, once you have learned the basics and checked out some high quality hubs that you can learn from with regard to style and content, you should just GET ON WITH IT - you can revise your plans as you go along - you can even go back and edit old hubs in light of what you have learned but wasting too much time trying to find the definitive answer is impossible - because there just isn't one!
