I've been too busy to take part in the contest, but I'm surprised how few people are taking advantage of the Hubtrail tags on their contest Hubs.

    Has everyone forgotten it exists?

Good question!  Funny how things get so much hype and then eventually fall by the wayside...

I wouldn't say it got a lot of hype - after all, it was a Hubber idea not an official HubPages project.

However it is another way of getting free backlinks for your travel Hubs on the various Hubtrail websites and blogs, so it seems a shame if people aren't using it.

Like many other side projects started by Hub users, if the topic isn't brought up regularly, people forget about it and new users have no clue it exists.

It's still possible to add the Hubtrails tags to your Hubs, and it can still offer you benefits.

Ohma was the person who started the project, but I find Travelespresso's Hub explains the nuts and bolts the best:

I would definitely use it if I was doing more travel hubs (I have on the two I've done.)

However I don't wish to enter the contest since I prefer not to reveal too specifically where I live. smile

I've been tagging my hubs with the hubtrails tags but they do not seem to appear on the hubtrails sites.  I think they only show in one of them.  Any ideas why?

First, check your tags.  The whole project was floated as an idea by Ohma and people picked it up and ran with it before all the details were sorted out - so there's a bit of confusion about the tags!

Travelespresso's Hub explains the tags correctly.

Hubtrailtravelguide.com will only pick up Hubs which include a tag for the continent.  Unfortunately some of the early advice said not to use the continent tag unless you were writing a Capstone, and any Hubs which followed that advice weren't picked up.  The site is populated automatically via RSS feed, so going back and adding the continent tag after publication won't work.

I haven't got time to go back and find all the Hubs that got missed (there are only about 300 on the site).  I've said before that if anyone else would like to take the site over, I'd be happy to pass it on.

Here is a link to the Hubtrail site. http://hubtrailtravelguide.com/
I have been very busy lately and not been able to spend a lot of time here. There is a write up in the learning center about Hubtrails http://learningcenter.hubpages.com/hubtrails/ and there are currently over 1000 hubs showing up in the feed. I had asked for some assistance in keeping the map updated some time ago but no one offered.

I wrote a hub for the contest and 'forgot' to add the tag until RM reminded me.  So, I went back and did it (correctly, I hope?).  I'm still learning the hubmob ropes.  There is alot to remember...Good point thought, thanks.
