why do some of us use real pictures of ourselves, while others use art or cartoon charcters? do we hide behind our prophile pict, even the fabulous shot of the real us? tell me what your picture is and why you chose to use that,...
for the record, my picture is truly me, i'm half tight at my birthday hog roast, and i chose it because A) i have very few pictures of myself, and B) its a realistic portrayal of who i am.

Mine is a picture of me. And my name is Ralph Deeds. However, recently I've gotten a couple of anonymous "heavy breathing" but no speaking phone calls from an unlisted number in Kansas. So there are reasons not to use your name if you are expressing opinions on controversial topics like gun control, abortion, the Tea Party and the like.

It is not a good topic, in my opinion. Everyone should simply do as they please, not asking others to explain anything. Sorry, can't go down that painful track again:

sorry man, didnt mean to offend, writers write to explain things, to themselves as much as others,... i just saw the mystery in why people choose the pictures they do,.. you dont wana share, thats you call.

thank you for the link i can see why the whole experience left a foul taste in your mouth,... someone opened a realy craptasic can of worms there!

i read the whole string through twice and for the life of me i cant find any reason for the uproar,... perhaps my skin is thicker than others,..

i do understand that the way in which a question is worded can have a huge impact on how its recieved by the potential repsonder.

not to over analize, but the ANY POSTER of ANY QUESTION may have underlying issues that affect how they percieve the answers, they may have pre-concieved notions that leaves them unable to take an answer at face value at the time.

that said, let us continue on in our pointles Q&A session that serves only to fill my snow day.

First I believe people respond to one another based on the looks of each other . Example men usually respond to women differently than to other males and it has been verified that what we call attractive women are treated differently than women who aren't as attractive.

My avatar is the face of a robot-ironically in the "I Robot" was made to appear on human than humans.

This mer-baby was in a facebook site called "Fantasy Art" which I go to often for my avatars - I am online for fun, mainly, not profit so I post fun photos and art. I don't like looking at my own mug everytime I post.  I find that people actually respond better and are sometimes intrigued by the changing profiles.

I use a free avatar I found online - to create an image that matches who I am rather than reinforcing the image I was pushed into throughout my life.  Works for me!  big_smile

This is my second favourite photo of myself, taken about two years ago by a good friend. I actually like what I've become, which is why I show it, I think. You can find more photos of me on some of my Hubs.
On the other hand, I have another account, and that has an avatar of something that relates to the theme of the Hubs. I'd never want anyone to match that account to me, because that would ruin the whole concept of the account; therefore, no photo of me.

I'm not particularly keen on having my photo taken and I prefer to be anonymous.  I scribbled my image in a couple of minutes as a joke, expecting a fair amount of abuse, but to my surprise it has generally been commented on favourably.  So I kept it.
