I just started using this site a little while ago. But its kinda like a digg thats specifically for hubpages....

Looks pretty good to me... as long as more people start to join.

    Here's a link: Top Hubs

Your right. It is similar to Digg. I wonder how the site makes money, did you notice no advertisements! Makes for a refreshing change. Not only that but has PR3 and 600k Alexa.

Thanks for this it seems a good product to have in the traffic generating wardrobe.

You wouldn't be promoting your own site, would you?  Couldn't help but notice that it only has entries back a week ago, and those two are yours and Big Frank's.  Seems on every page, yours is always on top.

Isn't there a rule somewhere here about spamming?????

This isn't my site. I only want to see it grow because I find it useful.

As it stands now I've gotten a few views (maybe a little more than 10) but I see some potential in it and thought others might feel the same way.

I don't think it is College Politico's site.

It's definitely not a site belonging to CP.

Some of us have known about it for weeks.  big_smile

I must check this out. Any help driving traffic to my hubs, is needed and appreciated.

Have you noticed any change in traffic since you've added your hubs?

    Only a small amount.

I don't see the point myself. 85% of my traffic comes from search engines and this site is just repeating what hubpages already does.

Most of the "social networking" sites seem to be only interested in the bottom of the market anyway. Just look at what is popular on mahalo and stumbleupon.

Quite apart from that, they are also renowned for being poor income generators and there is a very good argument that seeking them out is a waste of time.

I guess it depends what you are writing about - I have experimented with them all and after 300,000 page views on several different topics have found they provide minimal income - maybe some backlinks that help you get better targeted traffic, but the visits themselves are worthless.

If you use it (and I have) be sure to write an original description. Don't just copy and paste your intro or summary or a big slab of text off of your hub. Write something unique and meaningful. It doesn't have to be long, but it will count as fresh content for search engines.

    Every little bit helps.

LOL - There I am complaining about social networking sites and the first hub I made, which has had about 200 views in 6 months was, I guess, visited by a stumbler who liked it and has had 900 visits today from stumbleupon. big_smile - I only just noticed.

I will report on the massive earnings tomorrow, smile

I've had a couple of good reviews on Stumble for a couple of my pages, but I've never gotten 900 hits from there.  Guess yours is a more popular topic.

I love stumble it seems like every time I post something there its a guaranteed 200 hits in the next hour.... if only it could keep up that pace

If they like what they see - it does. I have had posts with 20,000+ visits in a day - If they don't like it, that's it, they hit they stumble button and off they go. But you pretty much have to write stuff directly aimed at them. This is the first time I have had any interest from them for a recipe. smile

SunSeven is good with stumbleupon - take a look at some of his  hubs - if you are looking for traffic from them, it has to be the right stuff.

Also, if they find it themselves and one of them submit it, you get much more traffic.

Personally, I think it's a waste of time. Like I said, 300,000 visits over a couple of months, and almost no income. I guess you need to be selling the right stuff too.

Three days ago the site got zero new Hubs. Within last two days there has been about 40 new Hubs submitted smile    (thanks to this forum)

It's great to see lot's of new users and Hubs but please do not submit more than 3 Hubs per day and more than 6 Hubs per week. Also would be great if you give votes to other Hubs.

If you have any suggestions or questions feel free to use the TopHubs support forum.

Mark - Ironically I joined today and when I checked out hubpages I got your omlet recipe - loved it myself - especially the guy talking about how his wife makes them but not like that - lol. I think I'm like his wife but your tips were great!

  18. Mark Knowles profile image58
    Mark Knowlesposted 16 years ago

LOL, thanks - it was one of my first hubs.

Like I said about these social network sites - I prefer to spend my time working on ways of getting well targeted search engine traffic. I would rather have 10 visitors from google than 1,000 from stumble upon. A lot of people seem to not care where their traffic comes from and see it as some sort of success when they have a couple hundred stumble visitors. The truth is that stumble will send hundreds of thousands of visitors if you hit them just right - that omelet recipe has had 2,000 visits in 2 days, but I doubt it will translate into income. smile

I am not so sure about this tophubs site - I don't see the point and it will probably end up like mahalo or any of the other social network sites.I guess it depends on what you are  "writing" - "hot pictures of semi naked Indian chicks" will always have more votes than "finding foreclosure properties," so it may be useful for those kind of hubs?

Is there an indirect benefit of random traffic?

More traffic raises the Hub score - does a higher Hub score get passed across to the search engines?

Or does the higher traffic directly impact the search engine ranking?

Maybe those 2000 stumblers are catapulting your omelet to Page I of the organic search listings as we speak ...

There is an indirect benefit - backlinks and hopefully an increased page ranking for the appropriate search term - hard to quantify though.

Hubscore does not get passed onto the search engines.
