Is Peyton Manning going to be a 49er?

   Heard on KNBR this morning that the 49ers may pursue Peyton Manning.  Not sure it makes sense and what that means for Alex Smith.  Smith is a free agent this year.

      I think Alex Smith is their future. Even though he's already played six years, he's fresh. He's hasn't been hit much and he's young. Peyton has maybe two years left. That's my call anyway.

   That would be a crazy move. Are they going to get a Superbowl victory in the two years Peyton may have left ? Harbaugh has brought Alex around simply by believing in him. Get him a decent receiver, or two and stick with him. My humble opinion.

      They have one: Ted Ginn Jr. He was injured and couldn't play last week. What they need is a backup returner who understands the fundamentals.

   I don't think it would be a good move.  You have someone to throw the ball, get him someone to throw the ball to besides Vernan Davis; Crabtree is not a #1 WR.

   I think it's a gamble. It could definitely payoff. Manning is far better then Alex Smith will ever be, but Manning could get hurt and then Smith will be all upset that he was replaced and may leave or not try as hard.

      Agreed. Peyton's neck problem is the great unknown.
      
      On ESPN they said that he isn't nearly at full strength yet and no one can predict if/when the neck nerve damage will heal. Since the NFL is becoming more cautious about permanent injuries, I don't expect to see him  play again.
      
      San Fran is on track and they don't need a Q-back controversy to muck things up. As for Peyton, he's done it all so why play yourself into the ground ala Farve?
