When and where did you hear your favorite band(s) for the first time?

   Do you even remember when you first heard them?  What was your reaction?
   
   There are several bands I now love that I thought less highly of when I first heard their music.  However, there are also many bands that I immediately fell in love with upon hearing their work.
   
   What about all of you?

      I bought Guns N Roses Appetite for Destruction when it was released because I liked the album artwork, I didn't hear them on the radio for a few more months. I'd never heard rock and roll quite like that and never have since. In my opinion, none of their other albums could compare. They are still my favorite band, and the band I compare most other rock bands to.

         GN'R got me into hard rock music, and therefore into metal.  They had a unique style on that album and I agree that their other albums were not nearly as good.

            Appetite is one of maybe only twenty albums that I know every lyric to. I still play it like I just got it yesterday!

      Well me being a child of the 60s and the 70s.. there were so many great bands.. but my first band I actually saw in person In Columbia SC I saw THREE DOG NIGHT.. of course being young I loved them and i still do..

      I attempted to go to a Billy Joel concert one time in the 80's but my car broke down in transit to the concert...I was finally able to see Billy Joel in a duet concert with Elton John in recent years

      I remember where and when. Back in the '90s I did a lot of trading through the mail of tapes of live concert recordings: Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead, et al. Someone I was trading Dead tapes with wanted more from me than I wanted from him. To even the trade, he offered to send me a Phish concert on two tapes. He also said if I didn't like it, he'd send me two blanks at his expense, and I could keep the Phish. It was a no-lose situation, so I took him up on it.
      
      That was September of 1996, and I haven't looked back since. If I ever cross paths with that dude again, I owe him.

      My favorite band in the world is Mint Condition.  I was on the school bus in 9th grade when their song "Breaking My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes)" came on the radio.  Everybody went nuts over it.  I have been in love ever since.  I haven't seen them live yet but it's on my to-do list.

   This is an interesting question. I think most people's musical tastes are casts when they are young. I still like many of the bands that I grew up with however my musical tastes have also broadened and matured over the years. I think this is because I keep an eclectic circle of friends and most of us have different taste in music. Over time we've all shared different groups with each other.
   
   I've one friend whose sick hobby once he learns of a group that he enjoys is to discover all the groups that each member has ever been a part of and then collect all of the albums of each of these groups. He has a very substantial collection.
   
   I've other friends who have introduced me to music that they grew up with and which I never would have experienced otherwise.
   
   There are times when I'm in a certain mood and want GNR, Metalica, Nirvana, Greenday, Limp Bizkit, or something like Cypress Hill. But in general, these days I usually find myself looking for something new more often than listening to older music. And by new... I simply mean music that I've not heard before.
