How have you found your experiences with this so far?
A few hubbers are providing new hubs with videos containing themselves for the purposes of training, education or entertainment.
Are you one to do a hub with a video? Or are you preferring to do just fine with videos in your hubs?
*Apologies. Last line should read - Or are you preferring to do just fine without videos in your hubs?
Depending on the topic, when I write a hub, I sometimes check YouTube for relevant videos. I never do my own videos.
I have several hubs up with videos that I have created. I also have incorporated YouTube videos in other hubs. I can not discern any difference in the views between my own and YouTube.
I will say this, I use AT&T U-Verse for my internet, television and land line phone and had recently made some changes there. When I got my monthly email the other day, I had the option to review my bill in video. I was skeptical, however once checking it out, I was amazed. The video featured a "real" sounding human voice that talked me through all charges on my bill, all changes on the bill and more, plus I was seeing the video footage of this happening as well. Very personalized.
My point for sharing the above is simply the fact that video is a digital means that will only get more and more popular as people prefer the videos over written material. From my research I have found that most people find videos easier to understand and follow when they are instructional, versus reading the same material.
For what it's worth, I was poking around on Alexa yesterday (the gold standard in measuring/comparing web activity on different websites), and I discovered that the hubber whose subdomain is getting the most traffic is somebody with video game walkthroughs and tips in Hubpages videos.
So it depends on the niche, as usual, but from that I infer that videos can be a traffic-getter.
Not that I've done any myself.
I am not surprised by what you found GG. Videos on video game walk through's are extremely popular and will often rank highly for searches on video in the SERPS.
I have a feeling thats becoming confirmed intuition that videos will be a popular item on HubPages. With my own experience so far, video has exceeded my expectations on this site for my acct/s.
I am wondering how others see this with their experience at this time.
Being new here, it's hard to say. But on Facebook, videos take a long time and have to be downloaded. I noticed a trend lately, where they post pictures or postcards with funny sayings.
I agree that it depends on the niche but since this is a writing site, I prefer written hubs with a video to add to the content.
I agree especially since the hp videos do not allow ads like yt...
There are ads on pages with video's on Youtube and definitely on HubPages.
I don't wish to be in a video as I want to keep what little privacy I have
Thats a great choice to make Stacie. Just because one can make videos with oneself doesn't mean it has to be done. I'm sure there are plenty of others that will never have videos on their hubs from themselves or from others. Always having that choice using this site is important.
I like adding photographs and videos to my Hubs because they give my readers a choice. As far as videos go, I am a HAM, and I like doing them. I usually try to illustrate my Hubs with a video because I will always use photographs. Videos come in handy for any how-to, and I've used them for cooking and gardening. I also use them for travel. But like I said. I have no problem taking part in my videos. They are "me," and they are usually made after one take. I'm not shooting for perfection, here. I have my YouTube video at the bottom of my Hub. You can either view my silly self after you read my Hub. Or you can move on. I have a lot of fun doing videos, but there are writers who strictly write and don't venture into photography or video. I am a writer, but I also feel the need to break up copy.
I have been somewhat surprised with adding video with myself in them. Yes they are amateurish and will improve over time (so will the equipment) but the reviews and number of views with them has surpassed my current expectations.
Kangaroo_Jase, I have the attention span of a gnat, so I do like having choices besides straight writing. Videos can "personalize" your Hubs. And they can be replaced with something better as your skills improve.
Are we allowed to post YouTube videos even if we aren't the author, so long as we credit them?

I am absolutely distraught. Some of my best hubs contain youtube videos. I have found that anyone logged into hubpages can see my videos without any problem. Today my Dad happened to be looking at my hubs and said "there are no videos here". Stunned, I went onto hubpages and logged out of...

I have never really looked into, do you just basically make a video or does it need a lot of accompanying contect? How do they perform here compared to content only Hubs?

One of our goals this year is to simplify infrastructure and retire features that are seldom used. Deciding to retire something can be tough, but in the long run it is worth it. A leaner HubPages will not only perform better, but will allow us to focus our efforts on the features that are most...

Hello Hubbers! As you may know from one of our newsletters last month, we are beginning to beta test a video feature that enables you to upload videos directly to HubPages. You may have noticed them popping up in Hubs like this recipe by cardelean and this look at ...

Is anyone making their own videos for hubs?I am almost done making my first one from scratch. I was wondering if other people have ventured down this road. It is pretty time consuming.

They were there yesterday, and today they are gone. Can I just get them back, or do you think they are gone for a reason?
