Is this expression used to convey a message for today's Christian Living or was this expression used to Jews in exile in Babylon?
Now, who are these trees that would clap their hands in joy and what does the field signifies here in the Old Testament - Isaiah 55:12.
Is this a message for the backsliders according to the Book of Isaiah?
One thing about the Bible, it is living and active. It is our job to rightly divide. Most prophecies in scripture, if not all, have at least two fulfillments. One for the time in which it was written, and one for a later time. As Christians, we are the Seed of Abraham, and promises to the Jews do apply to us. We just have to be careful to take it in its historical and grammatical context before applying it to today, or a future time, such as the Millenium.
Dear SparrowMinistries, thank you for passing by and appreciate you comment here. I am writing a Hub soon on " Isaiah 55:12 .. kindly join me there and leave your insightful comments my dear Sparrow Ministries. God Bless you . We must encourage each and every one around us.
Could it instead be an expression of God's purpose and love for His children?
Isaiah 55 talks of those who are hungry for spiritual things and the fact that God can deliver anything we desire, so long as it is good.
Even the best of us can lose our way (backslide). John the Baptist backslid. Though he was the greatest among those born of earthly women, he had become a stumbling block to the mission of Jesus. He had lost his insight and his faith. He could not even remember that he was Elijah reborn of the flesh.
Verse 12 communicates to me the power of God's creation. Everything that comes out of His mouth is manifest. Follow in the ways of the Lord and everything you need will be taken care of. God knows of your needs before even you do. In a state of grace and gratitude, these things will be furnished you. The mountains and hills will sing and trees will clap in celebration of your coming, fulfilling your every need.
Great Lone77star, thank you and appreciate your Biblical insights . But John the Baptist was beheaded by Herod in regards to his new wife. And this John was the cousin of our Lord Jesus .. I would like to know more on this .. Truly, Godly wisdom and Revelations can be given to us by Holy Spirit and with The Power.
Jesus called John Elijah, but John denied it.
Matthew 11:14
And if you are willing to accept it, he [J the B] is the Elijah who was to come.
Matthew 17:10-12
The disciples asked him, ‘Why then do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?’ Jesus replied, ‘To be sure, Elijah comes and will restore all things. But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognise him, but have done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.’
John 1:21
They asked him [J the B], ‘Then who are you? Are you Elijah?’ He said, ‘I am not.’ ‘Are you the Prophet?’ He answered, ‘No.’
I am so sorry Lone77Star, i was addressing Dissappearingheads ..
Dear Disappearing head, thanks for your comment and appreciate your insights in here. Well, we ought not to forget how humbled John was When he stated that he was not worthy to untie his shoe strings, who will come after him(Jesus).. John, did not want to speak of his doing(baptism) here on earth but about His Savior Jesus.

John the Baptist was not Elijah reincarnated; but he was Elijah in character. The Catholics Protestants wrongly believe that John the Baptist was Elijah reincarnated; he was not Elijah re-incarnated as wrongly understood by the Christians but he was so in symbolic terms or in character; like Mirza...

Malachi 4;5,65 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: 6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.According to this...

What is your take on Isaiah 45:11 "...and concerning the work of my hands, command you me."I'm puzzled by this scripture. I'd be interested in some useful interpretations. Is the Creator saying we can command him or is he saying something else? Has anyone had an experience that deals with...

I was reading about historic jesus yesterday. Neutral historians believe john the bapist was extremely popular during his life time. Jesus was disciple of john and john's death led jesus taking independent charge and preaching. Jesus preached 2-3 years before he was crucified..Jesus's popularity...

Do you find it odd that John the Baptist didn't follow Jesus as a Disciple? John the Baptist knew full well Jesus was the Christ at Jesus baptism. I have always wondered about this. If he had done so, John may have lived much longer and later became an apostle. And why didn't Jesus ask John to...

In the Bible it is clear that Jesus was Jewish. You will find it written multiple times, however what religion was he leading the followers to? Catholicism believes that Jesus told Peter, " And I say unto thee, thou art Peter and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of Hell...
