Hubpages Still a Reliable Source of Income

   I have been away from hubpages for over a year now and I was just browsing all my hubs and looking at all the new features available to improve my hubs, but before I dive in and redo all my Hubs I was wondering is Hubpages still a reliable source of income? Or is it dead and buried? Is anyone still earning a four figure income like before?

      In my experience and opinion, HubPages is neither a reliable source of income, nor dead and buried.  Too much appears to be in flux presently.

      I am making a little here and there but in truth I am not devoting a great deal of time on SEO and promoting my articles. I am sure if I did I could net 5 to 10 bucks a day easy.

   I think a select few do earn a reliable income; however since Google has been changing everything, one day I had 2 views on 52 Hubs and another day a record 275.  There does not seem to be any kind of consistancy.  Still fun to read others Hubs.

      Yes consistency can be VERY VARIABLE. I had hubs that got little to no views, but had others that would get 100s and a very small few get 2000+ But it has not been like that for months for myself.
      
      It really depends on what the person writers about, how many people search for those keywords and topics, and how you rank in search engines.

   According to the Hubpages success stories, some hubbers earn close to a full-time income from articles they have written a long time ago.The best part is that these articles will earn them passive income for as long as Hubpages exists (provided that search engines don´t change their algorithms to the worse).

      Yes it would appear that the success stories are still making money, but if you have been on the site for the past few months you will have seen that the success stories used to have traffic graphs. However, when their traffic plummeted the graphs were removed, but the outdated text was left up.
      
      Many of the success stories have told us in the forum and in the q&a section that they have lost over 80% of their traffic and even more than that in income.
      
      There have been so many changes in the past 9 months that it's almost impossible to know what's caused these huge drops, but many people seem to be experiencing them. Either that, or people who are having negative experiences here are just far more vocal.
      
      Super Chef - it's really a "suck it and see" mentality for now. Most people seem to be spreading their net a little further these days and making sure their eggs aren't all in one basket...

         I agree about the eggs in one basket scenario. I have other income streams which make me more than I do on HP, but I enjoy publishing articles here. To make $5 to $10 a day in between what you do on HP go to

   It is for sure.  No doubt about it!  It is the best alternative to writing for Ehow.  Writers compensation closed and left many writers scrambling for a new place to write.  Glad I found HubPages.

   Last year at this time I made like $600. Now I am just making the payout. I don't know whats going on exactly because I checked some of my newer hubs and I think some have decent rank. One hub went up to 200+ views daily, but suddenly dropped. I feel like this has something to do with an algorithm than search traffic interest because it happened very rapidly.
   
   Perhaps I am a fool. But I really would like to generate continuous income here. I don't mind writing and I think this is because I was always a quiet person overall, but can speak louder through words...
   
   Months ago I thought this fall would be great, but now it seems like it may not unless some of my hubs go semi-viral or pick up some better traffic.

      Last year my traffic and earnings just zoomed this time of year. This year they are down a bit when they should be soaring.

   HP is at mercy of the algorithms of the big 'G' as much as we are it would seem and the big 'G' just keeps sending out algo's. I started removing Hubs idled since even if they get 'featured' they can be idled again. So I am removing them for now, then just repost on a independent site. Lots of work indeed and getting 'violation' emails now I removed material and forgot to delete the Hub as I said, lots of work.

      I have not been deleting the hubs as I make the moves.  I simply unpublish them. So far I have not received any violation notices.
      
      As you mentioned however, the transition of moving material to a new site is burdensome, but overall, what is one to do when their material is killed by HubPages... not Google.  I do get tired of seeing Google being blamed for all the the declining views.  Google DID NOT, nor DOES NOT put the NOINDEX tag on our hubs here. It is HubPages and HubPages alone that does this.  Once HubPages does this, your hub is dead, deceased, gone.....in the eyes of Google and any other search engine!
      
      HubPages is using their own system to deem what should live and what should die.  I have read the various means they use and such, but every since several top rated articles of mine were idled with great views, high hub scores and one even rated number one in Google search for six keywords and phrases, I don't agree with the HP methods.

      I know plenty here on HP who give their high teeth to make $5 from their hubs per day instead of the $0.35 to $0.50 they are making. And you talk about not being worth the effort. To write a review takes seconds and you don't have to listen to the whole track and they pay out to your pay-pal at $10 if you want.
      My advice is don't knock it til you try it.

      Don't knock it until you have tried it is my advice. Many here would kill for earnings of $5 a day when their hubs are only making 50 cents a day.

      It might well have been me. I was very disappointed with the site where as a musician my songs were very badly reviewed and rated by people who couldn't spell and had clearly not even listened and making money there is almost as bad as most jobs from oDesk!  Al ot of work for a real pittance!

    It is reliable because I can count on it for some income but it is a lot less than I had last year and often doesn't make enough for payouts now!

    Personally, I don't find it to be reliable anymore but I still earn.  My Squidoo income has made real gains on HP income in the last few months.  I'll still publish here but like a lot of people here I think it's best to spread out your eggs.

       I'm doing well with Google here. Surprised to read you are not getting much. I have other blogs of my own. On those I get paid for running text ads. The low price being $100 per year. Casinos pay higher. I have them coming to me to buy space so that's nice. HP is a personal thing more than about money for me. I love the freewriting, write about whatever I want (as long as your Grandmother/ Catholic nun could read it).
