Are we beyond this old mantra? I think so. but sometimes I see Christians and Muslims just crazy enough to believe the notion. Here is mine, what say you?
God is on my side, off to Love!
God is on my side? I didn't know God chooses sides - the "choice" is ours, whether or not to choose his side, not the other way around..
Clearly it is man who claims God is on his side. We need to end that.
Sounds good to me. When peace is the goal, God is near.
I like your version better, however I do not believe any god as the only God. I really wish people go beyond God is on my or our side. Killing a person in my view is killing a soul. We are children of the Creator, and if you need to kill your brother or sister, don't bring God into it.
If we can break this cycle we can begin a universal thrust toward peace.
I still go towards peace, Eric. I am still one of the original hippies back in the 60's, just with a little more wisdom. Peace though for me has to come from within. People keep looking for it outwards, attached to something or another.
sigh
So what killing have you seen recently done by christians? Or do you want to go back in history and recall the past works of catholic pagantology.
Where i live there are no reported killings committed by christians either in newspapers or by word of mouth. So i don't know where you are getting this whole thing from.
If you want to engage in conversation about christians killing in other countries i have two responses.
1) why worry about it
2) make sure what you read has all the facts solidly in place.
Different countries have different politics, religions, social structures (hindu and caste system for extreme example) and therefore I defer judgment as i know these foreign newspapers are translated into english and therefore cannot be accurate lol.. i joke, but i assume their newspaper to be like ours and dispensing information without full disclosure and for bias or opinion sake.
As to muslims.. we understand they like to jihad and are efforting to make jihad happen to bring allah, contrary to bible teachings, their koran is numero uno. In africa muslims are efforting to take over the country any way they can. We read recently of church bombings in egypt and this was not the first time.
I really don't care what you think in this area. Christians don't kill to push their beliefs. Catholicism is pagantology in disguise by mentioning the bible but recall their apocrypha (pagan and pseudepigrapha writings) was tossed out with orthodoxy.
In my christian community there are no killings. We are certainly not shooting each other or muslims or those who fail to convert.
sigh
So that would mean you agree. We should now be off to Love?
Didn't George Dubya think he was on God's mission by invading Iraq? Or was he just thinking oil?
If you notice on the news, when a murder is committed, the reports do not make any mention of the religious affiliation of the murderer, so how do you know for sure that no Christians have committed murder? I'm sure that if you look hard enough at local news outlets you will find instances where homosexuals have been killed because they are "an abomination". As it was mentioned, George W Bush claims to be a christian, yet he ordered troops to go to the middle east to kill people. If your logic is leading leading to the premise that if a Christian commits murder, then he isn't truly a Christian (Not putting words in your mouth, just speaking hypothetically), then let's explore this concept. Murder is a sin according to the bible. Homosexuality is considered a sin. so is lying, stealing, gossip, laziness, adultery, fornication, and a ton of other things that people do daily especially passing judgement(A lot of Christians should be sweating about this one). and the bible stated that no one sin is greater or worse than any others. So if a person commits a sin then he isn't Christian? If that is the case, then why would Christ go to the cross for the remission of sins for those who believe? Murderers have as much of a chance as any other sinner who repents of getting into heaven when they die and face judgment of God.
Again just a hypothetical ideology based on your comment that no Christian has committed murder in your community. Even then how would you know if they were never caught? Just something to consider
I like your logic Deepes. But I am more focused on the war that is in the name of God. GW Bush is a red herring, as is the whacko with assault weapons. The sin of murder is almost irrelevant as you point out. But acts of war claimed to be on behalf of God is more like Blasphemy and using the Lords' name in vein.
(on the murder in my community - well there has not been one, so it was not a Christian ;-) Thanks for your insight Deepes.
That was not directed toward you. that was directed toward brotheryochanan. I can recognize your ideas regarding the people that claim to act in God's name. I actually agree with you on that perspective.

Good "God"- what is wrong with Christians? Fighting and killing people over nothing? Is this how your God acts? Is this what he expects? Is this the sacred road to heaven? Just in over the AP wire:"Riots between Christians and Muslims over the Quran...

Christians, why are you not Muslim?I have already spoken to many Muslims about why they are not christian so now I wish to hear the other view. So far it seems Christians don't know much about Islam and when they learn about it along with the faults of christianity then they often convert; however,...

If the Christian god is omnipotent then why would it need to order the murder of it's son so that it can forgive? No Christian can answer this because it is utter nonsense. But I challenge any christian to give it a try.

Are Yahweh and Allah the same god?Christianity, Islam and Judaism are all 'Abrahamic Religions' stemming from the same source material. Though they all went off in different directions, it's not unreasonable to assume they are still referring to that original deity. This one god goes by many names...
