Published hub Pending - Really weird feeling.

So, I've been publishing a series of hubs related to a certain video game. I published the last one about 16 hours ago. I came back today and realized that it was Pending. I don't think I've had a hub go to Pending on being published (when you initially write it up; not talking about when a hub goes Idle and you re-publish) ever. Either the requirements for an instantly Featured hub have skyrocketed or I'm suddenly non grato to the Hubpages staff. sad

(Both alternatives are not appealing, but I'd prefer the former to the latter).

Anyway, feel free to talk about your Pending woes here as well.

P.S: My traffic's down, as usual. This is getting so old! I'll probably take Yet Another Hiatus after I'm done publishing that aforementioned series of hubs (and finish that one video game I've been making for far too long, considering the overall simplicity of what I'm attempting to do, being my first one and all that).

Mine were automatically being published too and I noticed the one I wrote yesterday did the same thing. I think they are doing this to everyone now. My traffic has been down since the end of February. At least I know I'm not alone.

Hey Winterfate- our policies remain the same; Hubs may be Pending for up to 24 hours. That said, the manner in which we run different types of Hubs changed with our latest update that rolled out on Monday. Don't worry! Nothing weird has happened with your account. smile

Ahh, I see. That would explain it. smile

Thank you very much Simone! big_smile

Also, just in case you didn't notice my most recent post in the other thread I started recently, here's what I found out: There seems to be some sort of incompatibility going on between Firefox and Google Analytics. I haven't been able to access Analytics with Firefox for nearly a week. So, I'm forced to use Internet Explorer (eww) to access Google Analytics. Not anything serious in the long run, but still tedious. yikes

@Barbara Kay: Oh well. I'm just going to grin and just bear it, since there's not much else we can do. As long as the end result is more traffic to the site (and, by extension, my hubs) I'll be okay with this.

        @Natashalh: Thanks, I suppose. tongue
Does being part of the majority give me any new perks? I likes me some perks. big_smile

I'm having no problems with FF and Analytics.

          Running FF19.0.2

I checked my version of FF and it's the same one you're running, wilderness. Hmm...

I managed to get Analytics on Firefox to come up with the Audience Overview graph just now and noticed that there's no sidebar. I can't help but think it's one of my plug-ins conflicting with the site, as that would seem to be the only possibility. hmm

Thanks for the feedback wilderness. I'll keep looking into it later. smile

I'm also running Firefox and have no issues with Google Analytics.  I do not know my FF version.

Basically all hubs (a few minor exceptions on some unknown basis) now go pending on publication until they clear a quality assessment process.

This is the way things have been for months. Hubs always go 'pending' for up to 24 hours after publication. If it took this long to reach you, congrats and welcome to 'the rest of us.'

I would like to see the pending of hubs the other way around. Surely this would be better? When they are first published add the Adverts etc, so it looks fine and google starts to find it. Then after a few days maybe then if its not up to scratch take the ads away and send us a message saying 'substandard' or something like that. As we have said before, most of our traffic comes within the first few days, all of our earnings have gone down, so that can't be good for the Hubpage staff either.

@Nell Rose: Generally a good idea. The only thing I would tweak is to perhaps have a trial period for new hubbers that haven't published anything yet (to prevent the hordes of spinners/article stealers from pulling shenanigans with new accounts). Besides that, I think your idea would work pretty well Nell. smile

Everything below this sentence is general discussion and directed at anyone and everyone who reads this thread.

Speaking from personal experience, video games as a topic tends to not be evergreen unless you write about The Next Big Game (a game that never stops being popular; preferably from a storied franchise such as Mario), whereupon you get hits till the end of time. However, you do tend to get a lot of hits while the game is still hot (and for a few months after), and especially for the first two weeks or so once the game has been released (people playing the game want to know how to beat hard parts and what-not).

Case in point, I have one particular hub I did for the latest Zelda game which got nearly 1000 views during the first 24 hours (publishing so close to the game's release date helped a bunch in that respect). This was pre-Pending/Idle/Featured. I shudder to think what will happen the next time I write a hub that is time-sensitive like that.

Summary: For me, 24 hours aren't usually fatal. Still, they can be quite the hassle when video game article profits tend to be front-loaded (you make the most money while the game is hot, and then your views drop down to a regular state depending on the game's quality and re-playability).

Besides, part of my frustration is related to the fluctuations my traffic (and everyone else's traffic, as it is affecting the whole site) goes through at unnerving intervals. This is something I think will never truly be solved, as Google has a lot of the blame there. They say they want quality content, but sometimes I just think they want a bunch of neat little authority sites, one (and only one) for each major topic of interest, and just be able to call it a day from there. They punish people who deviate from their "chosen topic". What if a writer has knowledge in various subjects? Currently, it seems like Google wants you to make an account/site for each topic.

I'm ranting at this point, but I guess what bugs me is that there are published texts in the real world that have mixed topics (newspapers come to mind). Why can't the Internet be the same way? Until Google has a change of heart, HubPages is probably going to stay in the same state it is currently in (having all sorts of topics on the site, after all).
