More good news!
eBay commissions will be substantially increased starting tomorrow. We are working closely with eBay to improve the conversions of your eBay listings. In the near future, we will focus on buy it now listings, which represents 70% of all listings, and the formatting of the capsule will be improved to increase performance.
Happy Hubbing!
GREATTTT, after I just removed all my ebay ads.
Yippee! I have very few eBay capsules left but if you're going to switch to Buy It Now, I'll be taking another look at my Hubs. Great decision.
Paul Edmondson - I am delighted by this news - thank you so much, It is much appreciated.
Awesome!!! Thanks for the update/great news!

That's great news about Ebay! Now back to the important stuff Did anyone finish cleaning your garage?
It is a great news. I appreciate your efforts to improve the site.
This is great news. Now with greater Amazon and eBay earnings, we will all need to be selective and not spam our hubs so we don't get a corresponding reduction in Google views.
That's welcome new since i receive hundreds of page views from Ebay every month.
I don't really use eBay capsules, but it sounds like it be beneficial? How are you using eBay capsules in your hubs?
Anything that can make a sale is beneficial! However, right now eBay capsules are not working well, which is why Paul is announcing this change. Once that has come through, it could be worth joining the eBay program and adding some capsules to your Hubs.
eBay and Amazon capsules work the same way - don't use them unless you can find products which relate directly to the topic of the Hub. If the products are only vaguely related, they won't make sales, will be a distraction for your readers, and may even get your Hub unpublished.
Glancing at your Hubs, you don't have many opportunities to use eBay. Your mobile jewelry Hub would be an obvious place to replace some of your photos with eBay or Amazon capsules of the products.
I notice you're missing some opportunities on your educational activities for kids Hub - you should have an Amazon or eBay capsule for Lego next to the paragraph on Lego, for instance. Where you mention board games, find a good board game on Amazon and write a short description/recommendation for it.
A couple more tips - a lonely Amazon capsule tacked on to the end of a Hub won't make sales! Always have your Amazon capsules next to, or below, the text they relate to. And if you're going to tell me there is no text it relates to, then the capsule shouldn't be there at all! Also, I notice in your educational Hub that your banner photo appears to be copyright, which means you shouldn't be using it.
Nice!
It's always uplifting to get such great news. Thanks Paul (and eBay)!
What is the current commission rate, and what will the new rate be?
I've also removed most of my eBay listings. But, I guess I will be including them from now on.
I'm glad to hear the eBay capsules are being revisited. Ever since eBay changed the duration of their cookie my earnings dropped substantially.
Wooohoo! I hope I get a sale soon. Now I may rethink adding more.
Although I don't quite have the knack of it when it comes to eBay, any news of increased revenue for writers is great news. It's encouraging.
llonagarden. If you have Adsense, have HP earnings program, then you can do Ebay.
Use capsule; Sellers ID: looks like this jsam354. I made this one up. You see it next to seller. Don't use anything that is next to Id in parentheses. Then hit button to review product. Hit Save..
Today we released the updated ebay formatting. Here are the key changes.
- Buy it now items
- Buy button
- Top seller items
We should know in a day or two how the listings perform.
Happy Hubbing!
What timing Paul! I was just analyzing the few eBay capsules I'm using and I just noticed the Buy Now button. Looks great! Thanks.
Great Paul, thank you so much. I can't wait to add a few to my hubs.
Thanks Paul for this great news. Now I have to learn how to monetize an ebay and amazon account. Back to the learning tutorials, this is so exciting!
I spent many hours some months ago stripping out the ebay capsules on hubs where either:
► The capsules never displayed what I wanted/expected any more
► I'd never got a sale (probably due to the previous reason)
Looks like I'll now have to spend hours going through them all again
Oh well .... if it makes a sale it can be worth it.
I think the BUY NOW will really help to make the modules stand out. I like to use them on articles where I deal with the past or vintage items. Sounds super!
I am not sure if I am experiencing a bug because of these changes or what. But I have a hub about wedding dresses and in the ebay capsule where it says to put your search terms I put in "wedding dress" and it says, "There are no matching eBay items for your search." I find it kind of hard to believe that there are no wedding dresses available with the buy it now button.
I also just now noticed it says this, "Note that this capsule only displays Buy It Now items that are sold by eBay Top Sellers. If you know the Seller ID for a non-Top Seller, enter it in the field above and we will display that seller's Buy It Now items if there are any available." It's kind of limiting to have it only show stuff from top sellers, or that of some specific seller we enter in.
However, I'd still think there would be a top seller selling wedding dresses with the buy it now option that the capsule could find.
It seems if I put in additional keywords, but only certain ones, I can get it to bring up something. "White wedding dress" brings up nothing. But "elegant wedding dress" does (it just brought up a dress that was not elegant at all though). "Vintage wedding dress" also works. "Modest wedding dress" also works. But a more basic search does not work.
Interesting. If I enter in "white wedding dress" it can't find any eBay Buy It Now items. but if I put a minus sign in front of the word white so it looks like "-white wedding dress" it can then find a wedding dress to put in the capsule.
I just did a search on eBay. There are 910,833 results at this time for wedding dresses but none of them are from top sellers. I only see people who have just one dress to sell. You don't want that in your hub. You'll have to keep updating it with another and another and another. Is that what you want to do?
HubPages recently changed the way the eBay capsules work. In the past most Hubbers never kept an eye on their hubs to keep this up to date, so they were wasting their time with eBay.
Now the eBay capsule defaults to using top sellers to avoid this problem. And by listing "buy it now" items from top sellers, one can have a better chance of the item remaining available since top sellers sell hundreds of the same item.
You can override this by specifying a specific eBay seller. But keep in mind that you'll have to keep a close watch on your hub to be sure it's always displaying something. Once that seller sold the item, you'll have to find another.
My suggestion: Spend some time searching for anyone who is listing multiple wedding dresses available. Not just two or three, but something like 100. Then list that eBay seller in your capsule.
If there are no wedding dresses from top sellers, then how is it that if I add an additional keyword like "elegant" to the search phrase, so it is "elegant wedding dress" then it will then add a wedding dress? Surely that listing for an "elegant wedding dress" must be from a top seller in order for it to show up in the capsule, right?
If you are more specific with keywords, that may override it. But as I suggested, go to eBay and search there. Make sure whatever comes up in your search clearly shows a large number for sale. Most everything I found was just one dress. Some had a small number, like "3 remaining", which is not good unless you want to check your hub every few days.
Also, if you use a minus sign as in your other comment above (-white), that is eliminating that keyword. I am sure you don't want to eliminate white wedding dresses.
I know this is not easy, but when you search in eBay (not via the capsule) you'll have a better idea of the problem. And hopefully you'll find one who is selling a large number or dresses so it remains active in your hub.
Yeah, I know it is eliminating that keyword...which is why I thought it was weird that "-white wedding dress" worked but just "white wedding dress" did not work. Doesn't it seem weird to you?
No, it does not seem weird to me because there are no white wedding dresses available from top sellers. This goes back to the same issue we were talking about - there are no top sellers selling wedding dresses.
Did you take the time to search within eBay? You'll learn a lot about what is available and by whom.
I don't know how to go to eBay and search only for top sellers. (I just tried, and looking on Google for how to it says eBay had removed the ability to do so?)
But, wedding dresses is a huge money making market. I'd be shocked to find that there are no top sellers who specialize in wedding dresses. In fact, I've read and seen interviews about top ebay sellers who specialize in this category, so I know they are around.
So again, one it would be weird that there aren't any wedding dresses by top sellers doing buy it now. And two, if I get more specific I can find listings for wedding dresses by top sellers. But I can't find them if I am less specific.
No you can't search only for top sellers. I never said you can. Please re-read my comments above. I think I made myself clear.
When you search in eBay (you do that by going to ebay.com, not Google), you will see all your match results. Click on each one and check to see how high a feedback number they have. Top sellers are usually in the thousands. But all I see are new sellers who have around 50 feedbacks. Those are not top sellers.
As I said, there are no top sellers selling wedding dresses. Don't ask my why, that's another issue. You'll have to find the next best thing.
The BUY NOW option is an excellent change! Thanks, Paul! Like many, I have been deleting my eBay capsules. I still have a lot of them left, so I'll be looking at them with renewed interest!
I am definitely seeing the fruits of increased rates. I keep looking at my earnings report and am blown away!
I am getting more sales lately so something good is happening.
On a slightly off topic, Ebay and Paypal have a new return policy program starting next month and customers will be able to return items up to six months. I'm wondering if that will have an effect on my commissions? Will they be returned?

Wow, this just rocked my Saturday. 180 days.... I sell Apple computers, now they can buy, use and ship back when a new one comes out and I will lose $100's. Thanks PayPal.
