I have heard this before from others, and in the past, have had this problem myself. Now it has reared its ugly head again. There are some on this site who cannot hold a civil conversation or disagree calmly with others. Let me remind all that even though you may feel another person is wrong, that does not mean that he or she is wrong. Attacking someone personally for his or her views is not appropriate, and is against the TOS here on HP. I know feelings on certain issues can become heated, but we are supposed to be adults here. When someone does this to me, I either delete their comments or report them to the team or both. We are all human, and we all make mistakes. Once is a mistake. Twice is purposeful and unprofessional. I will see doing this as such, so be forewarned.
Yes, I agree. I saw a comment the other day where someone's hub (which I thought was great) was called, "ridiculous". We are all creatives here, and name calling is not only pointless and cruel, but a downer as far as a supportive community.
Totally agree, that is why HubPages institute penalties for such personal attacks and breaches of professionalism. That is what the report button is for. When people make comments and act in ways that are deemed offensive, just report such things to the moderation team and they will handle it from there. People have been banned either temporarily or permanently for such personal attacks and other breaches of professionalism.
Exactly, that is what the report button is for. So many people bemoan that they are "always" banned and "picked on" in relation to being banned. People on the forums are banned for a reason which they sometimes refuse to acknowledge.
It is a good point of mention made by you. We, come across such nasty things sometimes and looks very ugly among grown up adults. The thing is, they can't let it go even if you keep silent at their attacks. I think they do not like the victim to be so soft and gentle. So, they keep prolonging to irritate you and make you also lose control.
TT2 - Good subject and comment.
I am the one who recently stirred up a ruckus with a comment to another Hubber who was loading up mine (and many others it seems) feeds with repeatedly (many daily?) shared Hubs.
It turned out I was called RUDE for asking for relief.
I realized that, OK I was wrong, I should have just blocked ALL of her writings and moved on.
Anyway, I made my second mistake by responding to the Rude comment, and was attacked even further.
So, I did what I should have done in the first place, and just blocked her writings. It's a shame, because other than her obsession with this group of Hubs, she was a pretty good writer.
Anyway, because of my RUDE comment, she searched for sympathy on a forum. But that turned into something she had not counted on; a large agreement with my comment.
My point? Most of us that are serious Hub writers try very hard not to seem critical (radically, anyway), but, at times we do make suggestions that we know from our experience, should help our fellow Hubbers.
DON
Totally agree - in our world today, we have too many people who quickly make character attacks (I think in their minds, they feel it makes them superior or a "winner" of an argument) - its a poor substitute for actual debate on a topic.
Yes TT2, I totally agree. It happens far too often here (probably everywhere else on the Internet as well...but that's not the point).
TT2, I agree! People can disagree without being disagreeable or hurtful. Debate is good, personal attacks and name calling are not debate.

Why can't people on Hubpages disagree without attacking others?Opposing positions can lead to a better understanding. Personal attacks say a lot about the commenters' inability to discuss a matter intelligently.

Do you approve negative comments that readers make about your hubs? It's great to have readers compliment your hubs, brag on you for a job well done, but what those about those readers that disagree with you on what you've written written or have less than constructive criticism about your writing...

In which cases would you flag/report someone to Hubpages, or even ask that they be banned? For example, if someone slandered your name, would you flag them? Here is a comment taken from a religious Q&A comment on Hubpages: "Compulsive lying with an inclination towards spreading...

What do you do when people lash out at each other on your Hub? (in comments)Sometimes people have different opinions and argue in the comments section. They reply each other and it gets tense. Do you just watch the drama unfold, intervene, or delete the comments and wish you never published the Hub?

I'm asking this question because I am genuinely curious. I have never reported anyone on any forum for personally attacking me, even though it has happened. I never will report a personal attack, unless it rises to the level of something scary, like a threat, as in "when I find out where...
