Comment Box to which Every Comment is Denied

   What's the point in having a comment box if the particular hubber denies every comment posted on the hub?
   
   I noticed a comment on a hub, so I read it. It wasn't a bad comment at all, just something that I would see why the hubber wouldn't want it on the hub. IE it was opposite of which he's trying to protray. I agreed with the comment, and posted my own. By the time I submited my comment, the first was deleted.
   
   But, it isn't the first time I've seen him do this. He deletes every comment on that hub or any hub that is against what he believes and is trying to portray.
   
   So, if he doesn't approve any comment, what's the point in having the comment box?
   
   I'm just trying to find something rational in this.

   Since "Comments" is part of the default hubpages set-up, maybe he just doesn't realize he can delete the comment box entirely.

   I have a friend who I invited to join Hubpages and she said, it seems like a nice community but I don't like it if people will comment on what I have written.  So I just smiled and shut up! 
   
   So one can delete the comment capsule?  Hmmm..didn't thought of that.  Maybe he should delete his.

   I've seen quite a few hubs without comments boxes.  I remember wanting to leave a comment but couldn't.   I believe the comments left by other people actually add to the hub and enrich it.  I would be so happy if people left comments on all of my hubs.

   Susan, that's happened to me too. I've seen several hubs I've wanted comment on and no comment box... I like the comment box option; I just think its a poor sport to delete comments just because they're against what you believe. Bring up a healthy debate don't be a poor sport. As long as the debate is healthy and tasteful, that is with facts and a real defense besides 'it's my opinion so I'm right and your wrong.'

      So true.  There are people who can't take the fact that there are others who don't think like them, and they refuse to listen to anything contrary to their beliefs/opinions.  I find that the best thing to do when dealing with this kind of people is to shut up.  They're not listening anyway.

   It's possible the Hubber chose the Comments Capsule setting "Comments must be approved before they appear", in which case you will not see the comment until the Hubber has read manually approved it.

   I suppose he could be interested to see what people have to say, but not prepared to have them appear as part of the Hub permanently - especially if they don't gel with his viewpoint. Seems a bit of a waste of time, though.

   Jason, they show at first, which was how I saw the unregistere user's comment in the hubtivity. It was there when I clicked the hub. I read it and commented in agreement. When I submitted my comment the first was gone, and in the hubtivity said unapproved whereas it didn't say that before. Mine was deleted shortly after. I saw it on the hub before it was deleted.

    Susan, I try so hard, but when I agree with another person, then we all get deleted. Ha.
    
    On certain hubs, it's unfair to pick and choose which comments are approved and denied, especially if there's already a debate going. There's another hub by the same person, where he picks and choosed which comments to delete after they're already visible to the public. Deletes the ones he doesn't like after he comments on them, so all you're left with is his comment to something you said but is not longer visible.
    
    If there's not a debate and someone chose to delete anything that disagreed with his opinion, that's one thing, but to choose what to leave on the hub during a debate, is another, especially if what was said wan't bad, derogatory, or XXX.

    Maybe, but he has other comments left some that agree with him and some that don't... Of course he likes the ones that do. Ha... Whatever I give up, and I'm going to try to avoid him at all costs.
    
    But, I'm still curious as to what the point of a comment box if you (1) delete all comments or (2) only approve those that you like.

    Maybe he's trying to find people to back up his views in the misguided belief it will make his article sound more credible?

    I agree with you here Whitney, I have found a few Hubs lately (that were quite good) that I wanted to leave a nice comment on but there was no comment box on.
    
    I guess that's better than having a box and then just deleting all of the comments, but it seems that if you are writing quality hubs, you'd want comments to keep them fresh, no?
    
    I never check to see if my comments are deleted, but I have only left nice ones, so I assume they are not.

    I moderate all my comments, but it's not with the intention of deleting those I don't agree with.   I set them up that way by accident at first - then was glad I had, because I started getting some really spammy comments.

    I think the theory of not knowing the comment box is an option is the right one as sometimes we aren't aware of how tools work at first, and some people may need more time to learn about how they function.
    
    The only other reason I can think of is that maybe this person just can't deal with any criticism and gets frustrated as soon as he/she intercepts the meaning of something as negative on their comment box.
    
    If it is the latter than hopefully this person will use the comment box as a learning tool in the future as i think we all care about our articles.Hubpages is great for being able to review our work and adjust it until we are satisfied.
    
    I know I'll be adjusting my 3rd post because it just doesn't sit well with me, but then again maybe it will find an audience that understands and can relate with it. I guess time will tell, but sometimes taking comments we get into consideration will tell faster than time can. Almost got a tongue twister here.
