   Where's the best place to go in Singapore?
   
   We're planning to have a vacation in Singapore but we just have limited budget (for a family of 4. My husband and I and our 2 kids). Where's the best place to go in terms of fun things to do, Historical landmarks, tourist spots, shopping and dining? Are there any cheap Hotels? How much would it cost us? (A rough estimate). I heard Singapore is quite expensive in terms of it's cost of living there. I'll appreciate a detailed answer. Thanks!

   Each to their own I suppose. The Zoo is excellent and the Night Safari is a must. Don't miss Tiger Balm Gardens...both weird and wonderful. Sit on Orchard Road and people watch. The Botanic Gardens are nice.
   It is a pricey place to sleep and eat but check out Little India for the best deals on both. The food is delicious. Read my hub on How to Travel Cheaply in South East Asia. It may help.

   Singapore doesn't have to be too expensive (though of course that's all a matter of perspective, dictated largely by which currency you're bringing with you). I visit Singapore several times a year and find it very economical compared to other developed countries.
   
   If you stay in Little India - which is by far the most vibrant and culturally interesting part of the city - and eat at local places, you can spend around S$100 for a family-size hotel room and under S$5 per person for meals. Even if not for the cost savings, I highly recommend eating at hawker centres and small local restaurants since the food is far better than at the fancier places that pride themselves more on style and decor than on great-tasting food. You don't have to worry about getting sick because hygiene standards are excellent, even at the hawker stalls.

   It is difficult to answer because it depends upon the taste of individual’s liking. But to say in nutshell the pleasure and beauty is everywhere. It is an iconic city of Asia to show the path of development.  To me sit on Orchard Road and enjoy the beauty of movement of people through out day and enjoy the beauty of lightning at night.

   I go to Singapore every few months and I am always on a budget. I stay in hostels most times, in dorms, which is a good cheap option as long as you are ok with that for the kids.
   This will free up a bit of cash for outings, which after all, is the main reason you are going right?
   
   Some places I like to go that are either free or cheap:
   
   Japanese Gardens - beautiful landscaped gardens. Take a picnic. There is also a turtle museum inside which costs a few dollars. Free entry and right on the MRT line.
   
   Arab Street/Kampong Glam - a great place to people watch, drink mint or apple tea. Its a pedestrianised area so kids will be OK. Cheap trinkets to buy here. Visit the Malay cultural centre whilst here. Short walk from MRT.
   
   Macritchie Resevoir - another great place to go for fresh air. See monkeys here. Free entry.
   
   The Southern Ridges - a walk through some of the prettiest and most interesting parts of Singapore. You may need to do the whole thing over a day or two if the kids get tired. Free.

   Singapore Botanical Gardens - great place for kids to run around, feed the swans, see squirrels, waterfalls, lakes and escape the city. Free.
   
   Boat Quay/Clark Quay - follow the waterways or take a ride in a boat and see the opera house, Merlion, and a host of other landmarks. Free and plenty of places to eat and drink.
   
   Fort Canning Park - Walk around the gardens with some great views of Singapore, and visit the Battle Box to learn about the surrender to the Japanese in WWII - very interesting place. Fort Canning park is free entry to walk around. Battle Box charges an entry fee.
   
   Little India - Great place to walk around and visit the markets and sample cheap indian cuisine.
   
   Chinatown - the kids will love the colourful streets here.
   
   Temples - temples are everywhere, free to enter and great places to experience local culture.
   
   HortPark - a great place for the kids to see different types of gardens with butterflies and all sorts of activities. free water spouts for drinking (as there are in most of the outdoor places in Singapore, so take a bottle to top up).

    Orchard is a great place regardless of budget. Some malls offer cheaper goods like Far East. Or you could just people watch

    Anyone who has visited Singapore would tell it is the Sentosa which is a must-see. Still, the one which is close to my heart is China Town. Since you seem to be cautious about your budget, I hope this helps. It's a small place symbolic of the China and its impressive goods. Things are affordable too and you can take away lot of attractive bags, accessories and ethnic Chinese artifacts. It's also a good place to get stuffs for children.
    
    If you are planning to get electronic and other expensive stuffs, Mustaffa would be a good choice. Singapore is not a good place for jewellery. Singapore is my favourite vacation destination. Still if you are giving another thought to it, considering the cost, try visiting India. India is full of everything you have mentioned above, historica spots, tourist spots, exotic shopping malls, delicious dining all at a really really affordable price.
