I think when people feel insecure, the ego may need a "feeding." The thing is, who wouldn't appreciate an ego boost every now and then? It's only a problem, when the ONLY way to get by is based on ego-centrics!

An ego that's too big has an equally big appetite.  People with big egos need those big egos fed - if nobody else feeds them, they need to feed them themselves.

It's our ego that ultimately protects us in society. It acts as a bubble and a filter that chooses what we want or not want to hear about ourselves. So if someone says your nice, you can be like "yea that's me" or "no, i'm not nice, i'm a tough guy", either way you select what you want to hear about yourself, thus feeding your ego. However, you can feed into your own ego, but it's not as satisfying as someone else doing it for you. An ego is necessity for life, big or small,  and without it you wouldn't be who you are today.

What? Why wouldn't I feed into my ego? I'm so awesome I don't need to explain anything to anybody !

Ego is one of the aspects of mind.for example that  I am an honest person, I am a good person. But someone tells you that you are not, your ego is hurt. Your mind can be a wonderful slave but a terrible master. So if you have control over your mind then you can have a balance and timing.

Everyone had an ego.  The problem comes when they go from believing in themselves to believing themselves.

When people assume a position they are not suppose to and they want to prove to others that they are the boss,

Vanity and pride. Pride cometh before the fall. Do not be too puffed up.

Their insecurities. Remember that the next time you get stuck in an elevator with an egomaniac.
