Has our government become a system "of the nuts, by the nuts, and for the nuts"?

Given the overbearing power of extreme left wing and right wing voices, and the way we choose sides before we have facts in hand and engage in rational thought on any given question, has our US representative system decayed to the point that is a system "of the nuts, by the nuts, and for the nuts"?

I think you might have nailed the answer while posing the question.  Insanity is simply a perspective and apparently the nuts have taken over and are playing to the nut lobby. WB

Just look at Nancy Pelosi and listen to her speak.  I would say that she is at least one of the nuts.

    Communitarian

I am sure it is “government of the greedy, by the greedy, for the greedy, forgive me if I am wrong." If you are nuts its ok because you just get invoked, make a noise, get involved and at least make an attempt to make your leaders accountable.

You should get greedy, sorry I mean get active or it really is government of the nuts, by the nuts, for the greedy and not what you might think.

I think not. The only really big time nut is the extremely rich and powerful George Soros. Most everyone else in big government is just greedy and self-serving. Our representative government has deteriorated into practically an oligarchy because of the marriage between big government and big business (which includes big banking), and, a generally apathetic and uninformed public (check the voting record of American voters since 1950).The lobbying system is really a bribery system. And unlimited Congressional terms are the foundation of cronyism. The entrenched corruption, now so prevalent in U S Government, is, in my opinion, approaching a point of no return. The only nuts will be us if we let Soros' protege stay in the White House another four years. Remember, the definition of insanity, according to Einstein, is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

I think the problem is that the crazy people are the ones with the most time on their hands. Regular people, working their jobs and raising their families, don't have time to go to Washington and hold up signs protesting something. There are a lot of things I'd like to protest, but I can't afford to fly where ever the controversies are. I can't even donate to organizations I support. So the media only covers the crazy people and the government only hears them.

Well, not the whole government.  More just the primary campaigns.

I'm not sure that our system is any different than it has ever been.  They say that it is government for the people, of the people, and by the people.  The problem is, they don't consider us the people.  We are just there to fight the wars and pay the bills.

In my opinion,  it's been like this since 1776 when this nation was born and said,  Pay no taxes to the king, pay us instead.

Sadly, I personally think, that this speaks as much of our vast and varied population as it does of those we elect to represent us.

Our system indeed needs revitalizing and while all of them are not nuts, a great many of them are shortsighted and prejudiced. It is very clear that anything the President does even if previously agreed upon by mainly Republicans will be found to have faults. On the other hand all this crazy wrangling is petty selfishness.

I thought it was bananas, by bananas, for bananas. Mind if you ask Herman Cane, he would probably say for the immigrants, by the immigrants. ( Cane is very anti immigration and wants to electrocute them apart from the fact he wants three page bills because he does not want to read long bills. God save us all from Cane please)

In reality it is of the Common People, by the Politicians and for the Wall Street.

More like of the greedy, by the greedy and for the greedy; or of the power mongers, by the power mongers and for the power mongers. Nuts would be saying that there wasn't a purpose and the purpose is vague. Unless you understand the greed and power grab is more like two mothers in a mall fighting over the last i pod in the store two days before Christmas. Each has to have it for their kid and the whole meaning of Christmas isn't in the room.

To quote a very bad movie. "That's a lot of nuts!"
And the serious answer is, that depends. The situation is that we have a two party system where one party is for large government while the other is for big business. The government-industrial complex is thus maintained no matter who is in power. So if by nuts you mean that special interests have more power than the actual people and that government has control over our live like never before (and by connection businesses do as well) then yes, this is a system "of the nuts, by the nuts, and for the nuts".

    Makes you wonder sometimes!

I see the employment situation and people losing their homes left and right!

I hear he wants to pull the troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan and know he is reducing the services!
Don't get me wrong: I loaded enough 'boxes' on planes to know how many soldiers we lost and every one of them was a loss.
But if he wants to do this right, he needs to make sure that he doesn't punish those soldiers for serving their country by leaving the unemployed and homeless shortly after they come home!

It's a system of laws written by and votes determined by lobbyists (special interest groups, big business, anyone with money).  While the politicians deserve blame for having no integrity or ethics, it is the system that is broken.  Fundamental changes must be made to the political process if we ever want effective government for the people again.
