In what ways do you/will you treat your children differently than you were treated as a child?

My mom was a yeller, she would holler at us when we were bad until she was blue in the face.  I don't want to be a yeller.  I think time outs are more effective in punishing then yelling at a child.

I can't think of anything offhand - which means my parents probably treated me well when I was a child! I have a toddler now and I'm pretty much raising him as I was raised. Me and my brother turned out quite well (I think!).

The ironic thing is that it's my mom is bringing him up differently. She spoils my kid and we're always on each other's throat about it. Chocolates before dinner for example. We were always not allowed chocolates or any other sweet before dinner because it ruins the appetite and it's bad for the teeth. I have the same rule with my son but when my mom's around she's practically doling out the sweets just 5 minutes before dinner!

It's driving me crazy and I tell her "Mom, you brought us up that way and look how proud you are of how we turned out. That's all because of you. Give me a chance to do the same thing!" She just looks sheepish and all. Oh well I guess that's what's great about being a grand - you have the right to spoil the child!

They would do their chores and not each others.  I would keep track of them better at night.  I would take them seriously.

in pretty much every way. i don't beat them, i don't belittle them and i don't try to make them feel like they are lucky to be alive. my kids know i love them and we spend a lot of time doing things together.

I did not appreciate the humiliation of being spanked and therefore do not spank my children. I hated having a bunch of what I considered "senseless" rules so now I explain to my children why I have these rules.

My mom used what is know as "emotional blackmail", she would withdraw love from me if I did something she did not approve. This turned me into a compliant child but lacking initiative. I want my children to be more self-confident and daring. I want them to know I love them regardless of what they do, I may be angry with them but still love them.
