Satanists,  Gnostics, Discordians, Fundamentalists, Buddhists, Kabbalists and Scientologists, who would like to discuss or share their beliefs in peace ?  Who goes first ?

Interesting and mixed group of 'beliefs' you have there! What about athiests and Agnostics? (is that the same as a Gnostic?).

I tend to believe in 'something' - I don't believe in the doctrine of the Churches as such, but believe there is some 'power' behind it all - call it God or what you want (Q in the Star Trek universe!) - personally I don't think this power really watches over us in the way traditional God does - but we become 'part' of this 'being' when we die - I guess that falls into Buddhism a little bit......

eh eh eh it seems almost impossible to discuss this or similar in peace, isn't it?
But ok, here goes. I'm not follower of any «ism» let's get this clear, but I like to read some of Dalai Lama's things and I try to understand a bit about Buda and his teachings and more or less how Buddhism evolved and also about the similarities between Buda, his teachings, Jesus and his teachings and also with some glimpses on Hinduism.
So... I'm saying that the teachings are not the same as the Buddhism or Catholicism or any organised religion.
I believe you all know Buda's Story, at least by the film with Keanu Reeves.
What is for me the most important things in Buda's teachings? First he doesn't make questions behind our possibilities, he preaches that all is in perpetual change (remember the greek Heraclit - Devir?) and that we can find the solution to our souffering and unhappiness within ourselfs, not in any other place.
So we don't find in his teachings and Buddhism and superior Creator, a God that all rules. We find inside every human being the amazing possibility to became an enlightened one. We all have the Buddhicitta, the hability to find in ourselves the light and wisdom.
And so he spent his live teaching this and meditation techniques to get there.
At the light of Buddhism Jesus is like Buda, an enlightned one.

But Attention, there are several points of view about this (like in almost all in the world smile )

Agnostisism is the lack of belief, such as in Atheisim.
Atheists I left aside asthey are all around in this forum contemding with christians LOL.I want to hear what other religions have to say. Thanks 4 posting, BTW smile

    1. SimeyC profile image89

Not quite true - Agnostic is a 'belief in what you see' - so if God suddenly appeared in front of me and said 'Hi I'm God' then I'd believe.

Some Agnostics believe in Angels as they've had experiences with Angels - etc...

      1. tantrum profile image59
tantrumposted 14 years agoin reply to this

There are different form of Agnosticism. What I meant was they don't belief in christian religions.  Anyway they discuss everything and don't believe just because. I think you're talking about Gnostics here

ledefensetechposted 14 years agoin reply to this

Gnostic Christianity is a form of Christianity that lost favor after the Council of Nicaea and was deemed heretical.  A library uncovered at Nag Hamadi contained fragments of Gnostic writings form the first through third centuries.  It's a form of Christianity that believes in hidden knowledge or knowledge that only a few have the wisdom to comprehend.  It's also more mystical than even the Eastern Orthodox form of Christianity, much less Roman or Protestant forms.   A Christian version of Sufism or Kababalah, if you will.

I find the Buddhist base philosophy to be quite amazing.  Though I kind of understand that it's not a religion, but to me I believe it is.  I would love to read anyone else's thoughts on Buddhism.  Is it a religion?  If not, why?  Because to me, it reads, feels, breathes like a religion, other than the fact that it not hateful like Christianity is.

I don´t imagine how a theory and praxis that has salvation as a minimum goal can be called "not a religion" ...
Maybe it's tagged as "not a religion" because Buddhism does not speak of a creator God. But Buddhism has a definite sphere of the divine. Or maybe because Lord Buddha said not to believe his words ... just to try them and see if it works for you. I understand that for some people it's hard to accept that a religion which does not demand faith is a religion.

Buddhism not hateful? Of course the word of the Buddha is not hateful at all, on the contrary, it brings to the world the antidote to hatred, Lord Buddha was the first person to preach that it´s harmful and useless to try to take revenge from your enemies.

But remember, one thing is the word of Lord Buddha, another thing are the actions of followers ... some of them are just nominally followers and forget to keep a peaceful mind towards everybody. We are all human with human weaknesses no doubt.

I would like to answer the original Question from my prospective. How about if every religion on the face of the earth has one origin, "Pagans" and "Atheist"  included.   But "WE", My denomination and yours (who ever you are),  have risen to a higher level of awareness!!!!!! ... No matter which denomination that you are. Do we agree that our denomination is the best??  Of course we do !
...  Y divided by 14 = 1 + P x 4  = Religiosity with a whole lot of interpretation piled on top. There are 1,000,000 interpretations of the Everyone's HOLY scripture. And everyone agrees that THERE IS ONLY ONE TRUTH. DON'T we ??  I've heard WHAT ya SAID before, of course we can agree on THAT.
ONE TRUTH ?   We ain't gonna find it unless we return to our first love. The original, uninterpreted version. !!!
...  "I AM".  did all of it. From beginning to end. It's all his fault and it is all to his credit.  Now if I can just get him to pay my speeding ticket ??? DOES ANY ONE KNOW HIS
    "real"  NAME AND ADRESS ?
