   I use MS Office Word. While I am not a big fan of a lot of stuff Microsoft does to make our lives difficult, I do like the Office applications. I just wish sometimes that they would have similar abilities when I try to do certain things in one application that are easy in another, but turn totally complicated in a different one. An example would be text boxes in Word that can cause all kinds of issues within your document. Or when it comes to writing with different languages (who's dictionaries/tools you have to purchase or create yourself, which then screws up your English dictionary!) Lots of limits when you are going beyond simple writing.

   MSword document. I find the format simple. Its easy to check my grammar, spelling and reading score. It's a great program.

   I use MS Word because it has everything I could possibly want in a word processor and more. I am aspiring to become a professional writer and every place you can possibly submit to will accept Word.
   I tried to use Open Office which is a free software that is compatible with MS Office products but had some problems with it.

   Apart from Microsoft word I use Naturaly Speaking Home program, which I find very good. Some years ago I used Dragon 6 but did not find it very good. This new program is much better and faster

   I've always used MS Word and since I received my new PC with Windows 7 along with Office Professional 2010 things are really nice.  With the dictionary and Thesaurus readily available I at last feel prepared for the challenge...

   I use Freemind when researching and brainstorming. It's like having a post-board of infinite size on which to arrange all your notes and ideas into a coherent storyline. The only thing hard about writing with it is knowing when enough is enough.

   If you are asking about word processing programs, I prefer the Microsoft Works. I enjoy the simplicity and straightforward set up of Works. One of the main problems with Works is that most other people and most businesses use Microsoft Word and might have trouble opening attachments drafted in Microsoft Works unless they happen to have this program installed on their computers. I find that for personal use, the Works task launcher suits me better. It offers templates that Word does not. Also, I feel Works templates are more user friendly, less confusing, and help me stay organized easily. If you are asking about a word processing program for creating articles, stories, and other documents that you might want or need to share with important people such as bosses or editors, use Microsoft Word so you can be certain your attachments can be accessed without difficulty.
   
   However, because of the way your question is worded, I suspect you are asking about software programs that can help you organize an article or plot a story. If this is what you are looking for, do an Internet search for story plotting software or article writing software. If I was a novelist, I would be able to point you to certain programs, but since I usually write shorter stories and articles I don't have a need for this type of software. I do know that some writing software programs offer the opportunity to download a free trial version to see if it suits your needs before you plunk down your money.

    I usually use MS Word, but I find that Open Office is a great (and FREE) alternative to Word.
    
    Both have a full featured range of tools to help streamline the writing process. Open Office reads and edits Word documents (as well as Excel and other MS files).
    
    My wife took my suggestion and downloaded Open Office for her Mac. That's the one of the best things about Open Office; it is a cross platform program that does everything you need (and did I mention it was FREE?).
    
    When I write my scripts I use the Screen Pro template, but there are also templates for novels and other writing forms. You just have to look around a bit.
    
    I would suggest Open Office to everyone.

    Wasn't happy with MS word and had a look around and ended up with Open Office and have been very happy with it. As you write your story and being set to automatic sorts out any spelling tipo's. When finished I do a split screen and then drag and drop into HP. By me it works super, so as I say I'm quite happy.

    I have been using Windows Vista Basic on this Packard Bell laptop I bought back in 2006 or somewhere around then. Sophisticated it may not be - and I'm still learning the 'ins and outs' as I go on - but I don't need anything else.
    I've written RAVENFEAST on it, and its follow-ups, OVERTHROWN and OUTCAST, with another six to add (the formatting has already been done!).Almost seventy Hub pages on, the NORTHWORLD SAGA SITE, as well as Videojug and Google Blog pages... Do I need ow't else? (interpreted into standard English as: What need  have I of anything else?)

    I use Ms Office 2007, but I usually prefer writing on a paper before transferring my work to MS Word. I am thinking of trying the open office and see how it works. There is also this Ywriter software which I also found good for anyone writing a novel.

    Like RGNestle I use Open Office, it used to be MS but the computor crashed and lost it all. I find it a great program and easy to use.
    Once I tried freehand and then transfered it that was long process as you have to write it twice. At least with Open office and so many others you can save it and go back to it time & time again.
