   Do you want a nurse who's caring and compassionate? Or one that's distant and highly skilled.
   
   If you had to choose, which would you prefer? A nurse who's caring and compassionate, or a nurse who's distant but highly skilled. I recently read that RNs in my hospital typically don't get rated on the quality of nursing care delivered, but on interpersonal skills. So which would you choose?

   caring and compassionate.  Since nurse deals with people care and you need to have a good interaction in order to the job.

   I have seen plenty of the ones who "act" caring and compassionate. Those killed my mother. So give me one that does the job and leave the friendliness to whoever, as long as I am having needs met and staying alive.

   I'd much rather a caring and compassionate nurse, if I needed to be cared for by a nurse then it would be important to feel at ease with them and I couldn't do that if they were cold and distant no matter how qualified they were.

   The most important aspect to healing is being understood & cared for, personally.
   
   All in all which ever way we look at at it, we're talking about 'human emotions' here! The human touch & personal correspondence with care for individual cases wins hands down every single time, funny though, mainly (most) nurses are very compassionate about what they do for folk, they are there hands on entwined within the emotions of the sick as they attend whilst dealing with their own emotions on the subject at hand & more often than not, nurses so caring are not adequately recognised for what they do, by many of the authorities they work for that is, but, as long as that nurse does his/her best, self satisfaction rules.

   Distant and highly skilled. She can be very caring an compassionate but it she needs to jab me several times to get the needle in I would be very unhappy.

   Well the fact that he/she is a nurse tells me that they have been adequately trained for the job so my choice would be someone who is caring and compassionate as I believe that these qualities help in the healing process.

   Skilled for sure. She better know what she is doing with my body.Ever hear of MRSA? Hospital born diseases. Most mistakes in hospitals are from human error and goofing off. I would rather have someone who comes in and does their job and leaves.

    Caring usually leads to doing the job well - I've had a lot of medical attention over the years, I heal faster in a compassionate environment...  there's something to be said for how the body responds to treatment.  They provide a service, but ultimately our body heals itself.

    Usually the caring and compassionate ones are more skilled. Anyone who's been in a hospital over a day knows this.The more tuned in to the patient and their needs, the better equipped they are to meet those needs. Skill in nursing should be based on expertise both in medicine and interpersonal relations. In my opinion.

    Not choosing at all - a good nurse is both of those things - those are the very reasons they're so tired at the end of each shift, and the very reasons they have incredible job satisfaction
