   You can get rid of it for the time being, but you can never cure it as in you'll never get hiccups again. One way is to drink water and swallow it 7-9 times. Another way is to yell using your diaphragm as loud as you can.

   Eat a teaspoon (or a restaurant-sized packet) of dry sugar.  It's "gross" to do, but it works.  It's always gotten rid of mine and my kids' almost immediately.  It has to do with the granules hitting the diaphragm.

   When my wife gets hiccups, I will just scare her and immediately the hiccups is gone.

   Hold your breath and swallow 3 times. Or have someone scare you, lol.

   When I get hiccups I hold my breath however long I can. This works. You can put one spoon of sugar in your mouth and gulp down water along with it. Have tried both, works for me. So far, so good.

   Taking deep breaths and drink lots of water.  And remember don't think about it having your mind fixed on it will keep it continuing for a longer time.

   Hiccups happen when the muscles in the chest and throat suddenly tighten. This can be caused by eating or drinking too much or too fast. Sometimes an attack of hiccups can last for several hours, in which case it becomes very serious, but usually an attack lasts for only a few minutes.
   
   Although hiccups would probably disappear if nothing is done about them, everyone has their favorite way of getting rid of them. Hiccup cures include a sudden shock, drinking water backwards out of the wrong side of the cup, holding your breath, or dropping a cold key against your chest or down the back of your neck. Hiccups were also believed to be caused by someone who had spoken your name. You had to say the name of everyone you knew until you got the right person and only then would the hiccups stop!
   
   Hiccups are however no laughing matter. If the attack goes on for any length of time they can lead to oxygen starvation and can be fatal.
