I would have to say the mountains. When I go to the beach I enjoy it and love walking at 5:45 am - 6 am on the beach with no shoes on and listening to the ocean.  I can walk 3 miles doing that and really enjoy it. But I'm ready to go home after a few days.

Now the mountains -- when I visit I usually want to stay and not come home. I think it's the peace and quiet and the majesty of the mountains, the waterfalls, the leaves changing, the simple life, it all calls my name.

MOUNTAINS.  The ocean shore has its aesthetic benefits, but it too often falls prey to artificiality - tons of "built-up" properties along the coastline, such as high-rises, hotels, summer homes, bars, etc.  But in the mountains that's not near as often the case.  The preservation of nature there is one of the main REASONS for the tourism in the first place.  But I will admit I hate the Rockies.  They're ugly and overbearing.  But anyway, a lot of fun bohemian culture migrates to small mountain towns, and they've got my favorite animal, the Black Bear!  smile

thanks for your comment and I agree that the ocean can actually be "taken over" by various things. That doesn't happen in the mountains!

I love both but grew up in a small town at the beach. It was wonderful. I live in the mountains but I miss the beach all the time.

I lived at the shore for 16 years and then moved to the mountains..I find that I do miss the ocean as well.

I love both, but the beach is definitely my favorite. The sound of the ocean waves is just soothing to my soul. Walking on a beach is not only great exercise but has always been my favorite thing to do at the beach. I love to just close my eyes, listen to the waves and soak in some sun (with sunscreen on, of course) and just empty my thoughts.

I lived in a small beach town and would watch the sunrise every day. When the moon was full I would pack a picnic and a bottle of wine and sit on the beach to just watch the majesty of it all.

    Can I choose both? :smile
The beach is such a splendor that relaxes mind and spirit, there's something in it that I can't explain but gives me joy. The mountains are magnificent and the greens bring vibrant energy, life, enthusiasm, peace and love - whew! I think I'll go for the mountains moonfairy. You got me thinking, lol. Thank you!

I know what you mean! The sea inspires and energizes me and I love the way she undulates. The mountains are quiet and peaceful. In both places I find joy and and am able to gather my thoughts. They both ground me.
