What would you say is the most defining moment in your life from the last 12 months? Why?

My youngest was married about 7 months ago and is no longer living in our house. Quite a change in dynamics!

when my beloved father-in-law died on June 28th. I went through every realm of emotion and where I ended up was profound. When life ends, what matters most is how you lived it, not who liked you or other such nonsense...what matters the most is the love.

In November I got laid off from my job I've had for 14 years. Truly changed how I live every day of my life.

I decided to 'go' back to college. I've recently enrolled with Full Sail University Online for a Bachelor's Degree in Creative Writing for Entertainment. Until I took this step, I hadn't written since high school (grad class of '81) and this decision has already opened a whole new world for me, and classes don't even start until July 30th! Can't wait to see what's next!

My defining moment was when my son graduated from hs in June. He was a commended student and class president and gave two speeches. It happened to be my 22nd wedding anniversary, and my husband and I were hs sweethearts who met at the same school.  My son mentioned all of that in his speech and wished us a happy anniversary. He also mentioned his grandparents, including my mom, who passed away just months before. I will never forget that moment, seeing my son at the podium and listening to him speak. I don't think I was ever so proud, or so happy, but also sad at the same time. It was an incredible night.

When my son told me that he wanted to become a priest.

He wasn't influenced by anyone and he decided that this is the path that he wants to lead, he's just ten years old. The irony of it all is that i'm not a practicing catholic.

The most defining moment in my life is the achievement of a writing award. It serves me as an encouragement and a stimulus for me to keep on writing perceptive essays and stories.

I was leaving with my parents for the past 25 years and from last week onwards I have been moved to a different country of which I have no clue about. Even though everything is fine here, I miss my parents and siblings badly. I wish they were here.

Though it is sixteen months now that I have joined HP as a freelance writer and the defining moment is within the last twelve months the urge to write has increased many folds. I was decided to keep on writing from the very beginning but keeping a promise with myself along with many nice experiences I had in the last twelve months was really worth. I always wanted to write and get published but it very rarely happened. Working from home is the only option for me to create my own identity because family needed my presence. Thus, finding HP on the net was a boon, first four or five months were spent in understanding the requirements of HP. Though I am still not at all good at SEO but I am satisfied with my contents as well as interacting with the hubbers through comments is very satisfying and fruitful. I know I am not earning a respectable amount from it but still it gives me pleasure because people are reading my articles which means I have an identity of myself. It's a special phase of my life.

I went on a silent retreat for 9 days and came back not wanting to work in the way I used to. So it was a series of defining moments I guess!

    Hi Pstraubie 48,
The most defining moment in my life, during that time, was the suicide of a dear friend of mine. It was a defining moment because he left behind his own story with everyone he came in contact with. His death caused a ripple effect that devastated many people. I would like to make a hub on this question.

My son's graduation last week.  He is the first person in our family to be educated to such a level.  My father so wanted me to be educated to this level and I really couldn't face struggling through any more education ( I have auditory processing disorder, only recently diagnosed)  consequently I have never pressured my children educationally, and my son left education after college at 18 to begin work.  Then he decided to undertake three years of study and hardship, funding himself. I am inspired by his determination and focus. He achieved his degree with first class honours.  I realised life can be good for our family and not always a struggle.  If you had asked this question six months ago I would have said the birth of my granddaughter, which inspired me to become a doula.  Shortly before her birth, my defining moment would have been the night that me and my children (not my youngest) were attacked in the street, including my 8 months pregnant daughter.  It was a lesson in letting go, and in not allowing that incident to define me in a negative way.

Wow, Mrs. Jil Manning. Congratulations on your son, the birth of your granddaughter, becoming a doula and being triumphant over that attack.   Quite an amazing  twelve months! You could probably turn any of these moments into a great hub.

There have been 2. I got engaged in May. This will be my second marriage. After my divorce, I said I'd never marry again. I'm completely in love and love having a life with my fiance and all of our kids.

My eldest son graduated high school (and leaves for college in a few weeks). This was a defining moment. The first of my 4 boys...
