Call the police. I'm serious. That is the only way to stop it.
we did and they were arrested one was released 24 hrs. later and the other is still in jail.
We had a "Peeping Tom" once when we were first married. We realized he had been "peeping" for quite a while without us knowing it. We actually set him up. My husband waited for him to come to the window and then tried to chase him down. He managed to run into a house and lock the doors. We then called the police. They didn't find him at the time, but he later turned himself in to the police.
A peeping tom should be reported to the authorities as soon as possible. You can help by installing outdoor cameras that focus on the windows. Keep all windows closed at night and make sure they are completely covered.
For people that use venitian blinds, if you turn the blinds so that the reverse side is facing upward no one can see in the window. Experiment with different settings.,go outside and see if you can see in.
This problem could be the springboard to the next step in criminal activity.
This is true, if no one can see in they can't very well peep.
I depends on 'how' they are peeping. There was the story of a lady offended by her neighbors sunbathing in the nude, and she called the police. The officer looked out the window, and said, "I don't see anything." To which the woman replied, "Well, stand up on that chair over there, and you'll see plenty!"
So--if someone is going to great lengths to see into your home, yes, they are peeping by design; if it is merely a matter of you forgetting to adjust your window coverings for privacy, they may be simply a one-time opportunist.
That said, if I ever catch anyone deliberately trying to see in my windows....they won't have to worry about waiting for the cops.......
LOVE your story, Liz! Haha Oh, and I totally agree with your comment.
Call the police (as has been mentioned), and keep a diary of the dates, times and instances - this could be handy in court. Maybe stick a mirror in front of the window where he peeps, so he will see his own reflection? Install motion detectors with flood lights around vulnerable areas.
Years ago, several of my neighbors and I had a Peeping Tom who also made harassing (and very scary) phone calls. We figured out it was yet another neighbor (even more creepy). We didn't have caller ID back then, and the phone co. was a bit slow to get on it.
My solution was to forward my calls to Dial-a-Prayer for a few nights. When someone called, a deep voice would somberly intone, "Let us pray . . ."
The calls stopped.
Your comment about sticking a mirror in front of the window reminds me of something I read in Dear Abby one time. This person was complaining about a nosey neighbor always looking in their house for one reason or another and Abby suggested this .
Close the blinds. If it is a neighbor then get a telescope and look at him back?Borrow a pit bull and let him loose on accident... No really, call the police they actually can help, my city police are really nice about escorting me to my car after work if i feel threatened. and talk to some guy who was stalking me, at the time, I used to get lots of that because I was a model. It was flattering but I was very cautious. Once I had a body guard for a while in Paris, It was nice. you could hire a P.I. if you really wanted to find out and press charges.
Call the police NOW. You do not have to wait until your peeper is there. Report the incident, then when you call again, they are aware. They will also be able to put extra patrols on duty. Then, document dates and times for a record! Have a camera handy (a flash will reflect in the window, so keep it off) take pictures! A photo is worth a millon here!! It is also easy to set up the motion lights to alert the entire neighborhood that your peeper is there. It will make your photos clearer as well! Your area law enforcement WILL take care of it!
Report him to the police (especially if he's on my property) and draw the curtains or shut my windows when evening comes.
I keep my curtains drawn all the time, anyway, and I have storm windows. There's no way they could get my windows open! I've tried to open them, myself and they are hard to open!!!!!
I would report the problem right away I am pleased to say I didn't have that kind of problem but if I did I am sure the authority would take care of it.
Put a restraining order on him to make sure something is done right away!
a baseball bat would be my choice. i have a wife and 3 daughters, so if i catch you peeping in my windows, hope with all your worth that the police catch you before i do.
I kind of omitted the part of my husband having a baseball bat while he was chasing the guy...When he realized he wasn't going to catch him, he threw it at him. It hit a tree and busted all apart. I think it scared him enough to turn himself in.
That's funny, sgbrown, LOL!!!!! I'm glad it scared some sense in him !!!!
I had a peeping tom one time and he never returned....this is why. I set up a fishing line trap stringing the line between the bannisters of my steps as well as I put 10 penny nails through 2x4's and covered the boards with dirt placing them under my windows. He got the board stuck in his feet due to the nails causing him to scream in pain in my yard and unable to move. I called the cops and he was arrested. He never came back.
I'm not sure what I would do but I would probably call the police. I also have a little dog I keep in the house and she lets me know when somebody is around. I think all of these other answers are good, too.

How would you deal with a rude neighbor kid who is about 15 years oldA boy came by looking for my son who wasn't here. I opened the door my cat is around my feet and I was telling him that my son had left already. He tells me "woo I can tell you have cats it's overwhelming". Really?...

How do I deal with rude neighbors? On a personal note, I have an upstairs neighbor who clomps around shaking my celling but comes down and is rude telling me that my tv is too loud and its vibrating her floors. When I apologize (even though it was actually low) she comes back at me with a "yeah...

Why the police?why do so many people call the police instead of settling problems themselves? wouldn't it be more effective if someone messes with you, for you to settle the issue yourself? wouldn't it show the offender that they can't push you around?

What does it mean when a bird keeps tapping on the window trying to get in?This is a wild bird, not a pet. It is brown with a thin beak and the size of a blackbird.

Would you call the police on your neighbor if you suspected a meth addict is making a home 'brew'?Making meth at home is a Wile E. Coyote recipe of danger, combining boundless energy, false confidence and explosive chemicals.
