Should Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, and Sammy Sosa be voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame?

The Baseball Hall of Fame ballot for 2013 was just released. Given these players alleged steroid involvement, should they be voted in the Hall?

Pete Rose belongs in the Hall of Fame before these guys get in. Let them wait. Bonds and Clemens definitely belong in one day. They were great without the steroids. Sosa I'm not so sure of.

Peter Rose deserves to get in...the steroid abusers do not.

I would not let them in...not now...not ever.

I remember seeing A-Rod before he started taking steroids and I didn't think he would make it as a major-leaguer. Taking steroids enhances one's abilities and allows one to do things that they would not have been able to do under normal circumstances.

I would like to have seen what Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Ted Williams, and Hank Aaron could have done on steroids. Perhaps we should elevate every players stats by 50%, and in doing so, the pill poppers would not be good enough to get in.

The fact is, no one knows what the players (who took steroids) would have done without them. Just look at A-Rod - ever since he stopped popping roids, his stats and production have been plummeting. But, thanks to roids, he was able to impress the powers that be to gift him with 1/4 billion dollar contracts.

Pete Rose was a real baseball player who deserves to get in, but the steroid poppers are just cheaters, who were out to make big bucks and a name for themselves. They got the money and the fame...but they should be inducted into the Hall of Shame.

I agree. The problem however is the league's ability to catch the cheaters.

Any baseball players who used steroids should not be allowed into the Hall of Fame...not fair to the other players. If they choose to use steroids, they will know there is no chance of ever being in it.

I agree. But, I think there should also be a special league for those who use steroids and a separate Hall of Fame for the pill poppers. I mean, without dopers, we may never see another 600 foot homerun. :0)

You are really funny...I laughed when I read your comment. They could have their own "Hall of Shame".

MLB does have a problem with this issue.  Sure "cheaters" have been punished in the past and banned from the HOF but how do they handle it now with the steroid era players becoming eligible?

Bonds, McGwire, Palmeiro, Arod etc have all admitted to taking something (knowingly or unknowingly) but how does the game segregate these players from others who might have taken something (Clemens).

This is the consequence to the inaction during the time when speculation was rampant about steroid use and now baseball has a mess on their hands.

There will have to be a conscious effort that all players be allowed, even cheaters, or none of them at all.  If they writers allow some in while dismissing others it could make this messy situation even worse.

I would have weekly mandatory testing on all athletes. If they fail once...they're gone for good. Zero tolerance.

All players should be required to respect the integrity of the sport.

Don't feel that the ones that used synthetic hormones "steroids" should be allowed to be in the Hall of Fame.

I agree with you also, not fair to the ones that put in their honest effort.

YES they should be in the HOF based on their talent not their conduct. Ditto  for Pete Rose, Joe Paterno etc!! THe sports Hall was built to recognize talent, not pick and choose character assassinations or blame jocks for trying to get better at their craft. You can't tell me kids didn't and won't emulate their "heroes" for that reason? QUIT judging and let the hallowed halls of any sport promote talent foremost. PS tell the kids some guy is immoral and they flock  to him like the rats did to the Pied Piper. Nuff said!!

Isn't their talent in question?  Without steroids they were just average players who would have never ended up on the ballots in the first place.

Bonds and Clemens, yes.  Everyone else, no. Bonds and Clemens did not start using until approximately '99-2000 seasons.  They were already HoF qualified.   McGwire angers me the most because he clearly benefitted more than almost anyone else by using 'roids. That performance in front of Congress was ridiculous. Sosa is a joke: steroid, cork and Wrigley Field. Put that guy in Yankee Stadium for 10 years and he has maybe 300 homers, maybe.  Palmeiro will probably never get in.  Plus, he never played in any big games. I know post season/pennant race is not supposed to enter in to it, but for me it does.

Anyone that uses drugs/steroids to advance in their career should not be allowed in the Hall of Fame. The great ones should know better and not have to resort to using.

They should know better. But my point is that they had the numbers pre-steroids/PEDs.  The others did not.    The PEDs prolonged the careers of Bonds/Clemens. Even w/o the home run record, Bonds is a first ballot guy.

Yes, they were already great, so they had no business resorting to using steroids, even if it meant prolonging their career. That's just my opinion.
