Things with tryptophan in them such as turkey are good choices. Some people prefer warm milk or hot cocoa. I prefer avoiding eating or drinking within three hours of bedtime and look to habits or sleep hygiene as some doctors call it. I have found that getting vigorous exercise helps me sleep better, the days where I am sedentary tend to be times when my insomnia is the worst. Because of this, I make it a priority to get exercise or at least get up off my duff as much as possible. Also, having relaxing sounds or scenery can be helpful. Having a waterfall/fountain may help lull you to sleep or looking at an aquarium so long as all other lights are off in the room and the aquarium lights aren't extremely bright.

I use a fan to help me sleep at night. A cheap box fan turned on high drowns out all excess noise.

A good day's work, a clear conscience and passion fruit juice.

Working out a few hours before you sleep or even just during the day helps get rid of excess energy. Also a warm shower. Generally I'll eat something very light an hour or so before I sleep like some cereal and milk.

Good question : Have positive thoughts before you sleep. Don't worry about you're job. All you can do in any job is you're best. Try not to let matters worry you. Sleep is a time , for you're rest. You cannot control things by worrying about matters.

    God Bless

Sticking with a regular bedtime helps your body get use to a routine to sleep. A dark room with no outside noise to distract you helps.  I sleep with a fan humming softly to drown out other sounds. It works great. Warm milk and a turkey sandwich could help you sleep.  There is something in turkey which has a natural sleep agent and my grandmother always claimed warm milk works.  She use to drag a tea bag through hers just for the taste, but not strong enough to bother her sleep.

Sometimes, just getting away from home helps.  Some of us have sleepless nights and try all sorts of remedies, forgetting the obvious.  If you have had problems sleeping, try getting away for the weekend, even just staying in a nearby hotel helps?...

I had this problem for years. After trying lots of the advice from sleep experts and plenty of herbal and OTC remedies, I finally resorted to Ambien. I was resistant to taking a drug to help me fall asleep, but it's made a real positive difference in my life.

The first thing that I would suggest in order to (hopefully) get a good night's sleep is to de-stress a few hours before bedtime. It's actually helpful to give yourself permission to sleep well! I know this sounds strange, but it actually does work! Tell yourself it's OK to unwind and get "unplugged", if you will, from outside distractions. This is a beginning idea to consider. I'm sure you will receive many other helpful tips. Best wishes!

I do a couple of things. about 2 hours before bed all electronics are off (computer, TV, Radio, Etc). I drink a protein shake or have something with protein in it at the same time. 1 hour before bed I drink a cup of chamomile tea and read a fictional book for a half hour. Those things combined put me out like a light.

Melatonin is the best thing I've found.  I wrote a hub on it, which includes a lot of information about its many very beneficial uses:

Do wash your feet before you go to bed. It helps to relax your body and to take a sound sleep. Good luck...

have a glass of warm milk and some biscuits before bed. Never take tea nor coffee as these beverages kept me wide awake until 5am in the morning. No heavy meals such as meat stuff and bread.

Have dinner one hour before you go to bed. Try to keep your mind calm. Prayers are a good solution to it. You are sure to get a good night sleep.

Be active and stay busy. The more you move, the more tired you will feel at night.

An active lifestyle can make you sleep better and having a set routine  every night helps tremendously. Avoid eating after 8pm you will sleep  well
