   If people don't have to join HP to read our Hubs, why then....
   
   are people joining and then getting banned?  I've had about a dozen of people that sign up, follow me, and then get banned.  This has all taken place in the last week or so.  It makes me wonder why they joined and why they got banned?   What's your experience with this?

   I suspect they are signing up to engage in spamming or to scrape fresh content - this is just my guess.  If they follow you, they get notifications when you publish new things and then they can go scrape that content and place it elsewhere to try to outrank you with the stolen version.  Fortunately, HP seems to be aware of this and is banning suspect accounts.

      It's very strange.  I've had about 10 that have followed and then gotten banned.  But not others.  The ones that have gotten banned, I've actually see around answer/forums and posting new hubs.  I don't get it.

      hmm. I know some hubbers do sign up and only do questions/forums. did they sign up under new accounts to post hubs?

      The ones that got banned were actually writing Hubs and I thought they were well written.  So I didn't notice anything suspicious about them.  Then there are others who it seems create a fake presence here...I don't know why unless to scrape or spam.

   Sometimes, people join in order to promote their companies or products and hubbers will report them for being promotional.  It is a good idea to check out the profiles of people whose name you don't recognize to see if they are real or not.

      Oh, that is interesting.  The last one to get banned that I noticed was a company.  Maybe that's why!  I didn't notice he was promoting his company, but I didn't follow that closely.

   It seems from reading similar threads that perhaps there have been some mass spamming attempts. People sign up, gain your confidence, then befoul you with spam. Perhaps hub pages is closely policing this. From the conspiracy theory perspective, it is also possible that government agents monitor hub pages activity, posing as friendly hubbers. They do this to certain Facebook groups (even letter carriers), so it's not as far fetched as it sounds.

   Hi Crafty, I have also seen people like that who post links on the comment section to promote their websites. Maybe that is why some have been reported and banned. I once saw a spam notification on one of my hub's comments, but since the comment was insightful and relevant, I couldn't reject it. Sometimes they create a dilemma to the hubber by appearing genuine.
