   Why would it be a "sin" to prevent unwanted children within a marriage? Of course it isn't a sin to prevent pregnancy, what is shameful is bringing children into the world that are unwanted or that one cannot provide for due to outdated beliefs that birth control is somehow wrong.

   Is it a sin to use condoms when having sex? This is what you are asking. Sin is an obstacle or impediment standing in the way of Truth. It comes from inside us as a weakness or temptation, or better yet, as a necessary product for our own growth or consciousness. By all means avoid it, yes, but treat it with gratitude and acceptance.
   
   It seems to me that in this current climate, you will be taking a risk not to use a condom, and by so doing, put not only yourself in jeopardy but others also. When we truly love ourselves, accompanied by verbal and interior prayer, God will grant us the capacity to answer many questions that in the 'good book' may not seem so obvious. Do unto others as you would like done unto yourself.
   
   This is an extremely high law and one very useful to follow. Cause no conscious or intentful harm, and to include yourself also. Loving thoughts.

   I guess you could argue it matters on your denomination. Some look more severely on birth control than others. Does the Bible say anything about safe sex or does Jesus? No. The life and culture of that time promoted having as many kids as possible so safe sex was not really a consideration.
   In today's world I have to agree with ChristinS, it is much more a sin to bring an unwanted and unloved child into the world than it is to use birth control of any kind. There are too many children living in neglect and abuse for us to keep adding to that number.
   I am also very curious why you chose condoms and not birth control in general. Does it matter if it is a condom or the pill? I would like to go on the record as saying: using birth control is not a sin in my book, no matter what kind. Abusing and neglecting children is a sin.

   In the Roman Catholic church, artificial means of birth control are just that, artificial, and not acceptable, because one primary natural function of sex is procreation. This does not negate other functions such ass pleasure, bonding, and love expression, but the idea is that all acts of sex must be open to the creation of life. While other valid arguments for the use of birth control exist, the RC position is that only natural means should be used to avoid pregnancy. Natural birth control makes use of a woman's basal body temp, internal cervical mucus signs, and calendar dates to narrow down the genral time (within a few days) that ovulation occurs. Knowing this fact allows a couple to not have sex for a few days, avoiding pregnancy. of course, the method can also be used to achieve pregnancy.
