What are your thoughts on the attempted assassination of the GOP whip today?

Rep. Steve Scalise Shot in Virginia During Baseball practice this morning - details are still being released.  Is this a harbinger of things to come in US politics ?  The shooter was armed with a lot of ammunition and was clearly attacking with intent.

I don't know of anyone who CONDONEs Violence in any Manifestation & the RESISTANCE has been ACTIVE via LAWFUL Methods & Let's PRAY everyone is well, but we must realize Congressional Republicans recently "DRAFTED & Passed" Legislation which allows Pyschologically Unsound Elderly Individuals who need HELP Managing their Daily Affairs, 2 Purchase Fire-Arms ~ BRILLIANT Move ~

Republicans also PASSED Unconsionably "CRUEL & Devastating" Legistlation which would "Unilaterally RESCIND" Health-Insurance without Remedy for approximately 24 MILLION Americans who depend upon the protection, not to mention, a Republican Pseudo-President who has EXPRESSED Intent to Withdraw from a GLOBAL Accord intended to SAVE Our one and ONLY Planet from irreversible catastrophe, we now join SYRIA in that regard ~ Not to mention other nearly infinite Republican led ATROCITIEs ~ What kind of CLIMATE do these Reprehensible Unilateral Actions Create ??

Can U IMAGINE the "Extremely DARK Negative Kharma" Surrounding the GOP & Honestly, what else could they possibly expect ?? Despite the GOP Contention & ACTIONs, the USA is NOT a KINGDOM or Dictatorship where one man or PARTY is allowed to "STRIP" from the PEOPLE only to GIVE to a select few ELITE Wealth Hoarders which is exactly the state we are faced with ~

As long as the sheeple have money in their bank account, and 4 wheels that roll to and from the shopping mall, they really don't care how they are being used. I grew up on a farm. I'm sure the cows we raised to slaughter didn't feel oppressed either.

It goes to prove that the left are the new domestic terrorists. It is strange that even with a police presence this could happen&be successful. The left used to talk about Trump rallies that turned hostile as being Trump's fault. When it was the hostile rhetoric of Hillary&the left that was the moving force.
Now, the mantra on the left is Resist,&many of the supporters on the left don't know what that means, and this shooting could be an example of that.
Isn't it bad enough that the left wants to bring in professional, battlefield tested and perfected foreign terrorists from the Middle East, now we have to worry about those already here.

It really doesn't matter who this shooter was as it only satisfies the goals of the left.

The left condemns those people that want to protect the national security from foreign terrorists, and they prevent president Trump from protecting the country. The left also makes excuses anytime the terrorists are Muslims. The Muslims, the peaceful ones have been shy on condemning the ones that are terrorists.

Now, the left after this shooting needs to go out an bring in all the people on the left that have been told to resist, and tell them where the resistance ends and Treason begins.

If they don't come out and do this, it is a clear sign that they are behind it. In which case the republicans need to unify their party, and take the left to task.

We hear talk about how the Muslim Terrorists use the Internet turn people in the US to become a terrorist. Now, we need to add the Radical Left, although that may be one in the same, to the forces that are encouraging terrorism.

When will we hear from Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, Schiff, Schumer, Pelosi, Feinstein, Elizabeth Warren, Maxine Waters, and others coming out and telling their minions that the line has been crossed. This also applies to the Media.

If the left fails to change their message to the minions, then we have seen the US embroiled in the throws of a new variant on the tragic Civil War of the past. The left initiated that war, as they are initiating this New Civil War. We are a Democratic Republican, but that is not what the left wants for the US.

Everyone that supports the left, needs to take action and tell their leaders that is UnAmerican, and they need to stop. That includes those here on hp that support this civil disruption.

Unless this movement is stopped by the left, it looks like a trial run on assassinating the president of the United States

I just had 2 questions summarily removed by hp, yet they allow the left to put questions that are without censorship.

First, I'm saddened by it. My thoughts go to to Rep. Scalise and his family, along with prayers for a speedy recovery. Second, it was to be expected. I believe that we have got to tone down all this political rhetoric on both sides of the government. That includes the two hotheads, Bernie Sanders and the perpetually tweeting Donald Trump. I believe that both sides have been shouting "fire" in the proverbial crowded theater far too long and getting away with it.
I notice that the partisan finger pointing has already started, but I think it is too early to start the brouhaha until we learn what this man's motive was. Why did he attack a bunch of Republicans practicing baseball? Is he just mentally unstable or did he and/or his family lose something important because of a congressional action? I'm afraid that we will see more people going postal as their health coverage is taken away and all those promised jobs don't manifest.
I can see the headlines now. "Blank City" to get new lawnmower factory. Five new jobs will be created to run the robots that run the assembly lines.

Unfortunately, we have a lot of individuals in the world today who can rationalize in their mind that a horrific act is perfectly acceptable if in their mind it brings about a personal good.  Based on certain facts which are being released slowly, it appears he had a plan to take on a violent act but did not know exactly what it would be when he first packed up and went to VA. It appears he did not renew his license to be a home inspector back in December, moved out of his home several months ago and visited with certain governmental offices regularly.  Most likely he was trying to get information on a place where several members of Congress would meet up in an area of relaxed security. Fortunately, Rep Scalise, being a high ranking Congressional member is required a security detail which acted magnificently in this situation to prevent further injuries.

My thoughts are that we as a country need to understand that violence is seldom the answer to our problems. The acts of prejudice, violence, etc that have been going on has seemed to not only grow but become acceptable to many. The discrimination, prejudice, and violence being perpetrated against our own are now just out and out blatantly being done with no fear or reprisal. What makes if worse, is when we should come together and hold the INDIVIDUALS responsible for these horrible acts; so many people then resort to name calling or using it as an opportunity to put down others of differing beliefs. Other rationalize the behavior down by saying, well so and so did this and you did nothing. I hope at some point we will all come together and say enough is enough.  We may not have done right by people in the past, but the bologna stops now. The gunman is dead, and so there is no way to punish him, however, we can come together and stop the ridiculous actions of INDIVIDUALS who rationalize its ok to discriminate, violate, etc other because we have differing views.

Your introduction perfectly defines Manifest Destiny. Americans have justified genocide, slavery, the murder of my people, and the theft of an entire continent for 250 years. The chickens are now coming home to roost. Evil ultimately consumes itself.

Ralph...You have your answer as advertised by the comments here. The Left blames the Right. They will continue to do do and even more people will be killed. Meanwhile, Rep. Scalise is in critical condition, but they don't give a damn. I pray he doesn't die at the hands of the angry man who is steeped in hatred for the Right.

This reminds me of the Civil War, when Democrats hated President Lincoln because he wanted to free the slaves. The hypocrisy of the Left sickens me. I don't even care at this point if they ban me. Most of the comments here are sickening. Who makes excuses for someone who kills in the name of politics? Not anyone I care to be associated with.

It wasn't a civil war but a war between the states, and Lincoln didn't start it for slave saving but for secession. It would as if Brexit wanted to leave & the EU and France invaded Britain. States were sovereign like countries. Not like now...

Right, and as part of the sweetener to keep them in, we got the electoral college, giving a person in wyoming three times the clout i have. And savvy, the feeling is mutual. Gun worship and easy access to them is killing americans every single day.

It appears that this means nothing to the twisted on the left. There is nothing that can get them to act like concerned Americans. Pathetic.

Yes, he hated trump and the republicans. He also hated hillary clinton. He voted for jill stein. And? A trump supporter recently stabbed a black man to death. Another shot up a mosque. Do you take blame? Hate-mongering is a well worn tradition here.

Where were you when a Nazi-saluting Trump supporter knifed two men to death a couple of weeks ago while they were trying to protect a Muslim woman in Portland?

Yes, when a person of color is assaulted, or a white person is killed defending a person of color, the Archie Bunker Brigade is conspicuously silent. But they come runnin' when a rich white politician pretends to be shot.

Promisem, the stabber had voted for Bernie Sanders. Trump supporters had reported him to police because of his Nazi craziness. The police did nothing. Trump condemned the stabbing. I don't know if Bernie did as well.

Please provide proof from a credible source and not a conservative blog that he voted for Sanders.

The point remains that hatred of anyone not white or Christian very much belongs to Trump supporters.

I agree, celebrities and politicians that have hailed the Scalise assassination attempt, instead of coming out against this violence. Violence may be how we created the US, but the first thing our country did was to make violence Treason

I really started paying attention to politics in 2009 and feel that sadly unless the rhetoric in toned down this might be the norm every couple of years. You can't speak about second amendment remedies and other violent behavior then be surprised when someone follows through. The civility and respect is missing and greatly needed!

Exactly. Gun violence is the real terror in america, and we are blocked from doing anything about it. Cant even have a study on the real cost in lives and money that guns cause becauze the nra owns too many politicians. Nra sux!

yd, you need to research the gun deaths. half of gun deaths are from suicides. Another number of shootings are gang related. The open border brings $25bil of drugs, as well as illegal guns and human trafficking. There are enuf gun regulations already

Obviously not. Va is a prime example. We need federal laws regarding deadly weapons, not leave it up to the states. Did you read what those bullets did to scalise? Who the eff decided that we need this in society? What moron?

bradmasterOCcalposted 7 years agoin reply to this

yd = the bad guys are always going to get the weapons, and the open borders to the drug cartel ship lots of illegal weapons. Guns don't kill, you have to find the people that will use them, the last terrorist attacks didn't use guns.
