Once again us and them huh? You seem hell bent on creating the deepest divide you can with your assessment of situations that could use a little thought.

Do I think it was racist? No! But by you going into your typical tyrade about us and them you don't help.

You just don't get it do you.  The greatest thing we can hand the politicians of this country is a divided electorate.  Then they have free will to do whatever the lobbyist want.  I can guarantee that the lobbyists are not duplicitous in their agendas.

So we should come together under the Liberal agenda or the Conservative agenda? It is us vs them thats what you don't seem to get, Obama is not going to put forth policies that I want just ones you want.

            1. rhamson profile image72
rhamsonposted 14 years agoin reply to this

How do you know what I want?  You seem to think because I may have a few thoughts that seemingly are in line with Obama I am therefore a liberal and thus the enemy.  I don't feel constrained to think one way or the other based on the labels given me by someone.  You don't know how many times I agree with some of your views.

What we have to do is get a REPRESENTATIVE government of the people and not BIG BUSINESS.  If you think your conservative buddies in congress represent you you are sadly mistaken my friend.

Obama does not run us we run him.  If you vote against him and replace him based on his performance or failures you will get a lot farther than the us against them syndrome.  Doing it the way you are with division only strengthens them.

Sounds like the feeling is that portraying the Prez as the Joker was racist.  Not sure how that plays out, unless the viewpoint is that the Joker's extreme makeup is somehow a version of the old blackface makeup (only in reverse).

Seems more like being portrayed as the Joker would be an insult to his sanity rather than his race, though--since the Joker was all crazy and a yard wide.

The banner, unfurled within the past few days, depicts Obama as Heath Ledger's grotesque Joker character from "The Dark Knight." The president is shown with smeared red lipstick, a white face and darkened eyes. The word "socialism" is spelled out below the caricature.

The story is not racist it was the banner that I percieved to be a racial remark they could have used any other character, interesting how they used the joker, would they have used the same character on Bush? I don't think so but as you know it is only my opinion and I believe there were sublimal racial thoughts when they used the joker. smile

my goodness I am entitled to my opinion I am not trying to debate someone on there own perception. smeared lipstick, white face and darkened eyes? I personally do not care for that perception it reminded me of something right out of the 30's. I pictured the racial undertones didn't you? What is your perception? My opinion is my own ,A Texan asked,"More Racism?"  I was not going to defend one white man who was a part of my own race for his lack of taste when portraying the President. How would a white man feel if a black man held up a sign portraying there white leader was a Nazi? Our entire white race would want to lynch him wouldn't they?

I don't know... I don't think its right whoever did it, but I do remember Rush Limbaugh talking about the person who paraded in a conservative rally with an "obama/nazi" sign, and then went inside the nearby building and began to hand out literature for the Senator whose office was there... the democrat Senator.
Like I said, I think its wrong, but I wonder how much of this is fueled by the left's desire to take away the attention from the real arguments against Obama's policy.

If we all get togeather Black and white and pass it by then the person tying it has no power. If we sucumb to it, then they get to give it the attention it does not deserve.

I get his point but I disagree. I don't like the way he said it...speaking for all white people (us whites) ...no one can speak for an entire race...

And we all agree, and I have said it many times. That most people who criticize Obama are not racist.

You don't like the way he said it? Ok, it is how he chose to present it, does that change the meaning?

There are more Republicans complaining about liberals crying racism than there are liberals crying racism.

By the way A Texan, good post and the article was well written.  The funny thing about racism in this country is that non racists see nothing as racicist while racists see everything as racist.

    It is both
Some never wanted a Black anything, let alone President
And some never wanted a Democrat ,simple as that really.

The ones who dont like his policies , their voices are drowned out but the other two groups IMO.

I don't think racism is the biggest problem with the Right these days. It is still a big problem with the former Dixiecrats in the Deep South and Appalachia (and to ignore that is really stupid).

The problem of hyperpartisanship, fanned by Fox News and drawing its source in a bunch of insecurity, is making a large segment of Republicans hate Obama, Pelosi and the Democrats "just because." It's not a matter of the Dems' policies, because most of what the "conservatives" are whining about today were very much true during the Bush era, and they were silent then. I think a lot of them are very much deliberately uninformed, but 100% sure of their positions because they don't believe thinking things through and getting all the facts matter (maybe this is related to religious dogma, another problem that plagues the Right these days).

I pointed out some facts and drew my own conclusions about a group which I am not a member of (a behavioral/ideological group, not one you're born into).

      Yes, it is.

I remember all the "nazi" allusions, but that one takes the cake. And ATexan's avatar doesn't even look like Bush.

I've been meaning to ask who it is...glad I didn't.

Take a look at the image on page 4 of this thread. Tex's avatar is too small to make the point - until you know what it is smile

Actually, I can see ATexan's avatar better than all the images on page four. Still doesn't look like Bush to me...except maybe the nose.

The funniest, and I mean funny because it was SO OFF, was of G.W. wearing a tea-cozy on his head and that white beard.
