Looks and Women

   Girls and women in our society are pressured from childhood to be beautiful.   This is evidence through magazines & advertisement, specifically Hollywood.  Beauty is held as the be and end all for girls & women as the ultimate goal.   Girls & women are told that being beautiful means a great life whether it is popularity, earning power, & societal respect.   So-called beauty contests extol the "virtues" of being beautiful.   Beautiful girls & women are deemed at the top of the pecking order.  They have more choices in life.  Society oftentimes demonize girls & women who are deemed less attractive.   They are even marginalized in our society.  What are your thoughts in this subject? Does society discriminate against the less attractive, particularly girls & women?

      Unfortunately, Grace it is a patriarchal society and world, that is just one thing of many things that is wrong with it.
      
      Women are held to this superficial standard. It is part of the attitude here that says a that woman can not be President, even though in more evolved European societies, female Chancellors and Prime Ministers are no big deal.

         Yes, it is quite unfortunate.   Female newcasters are judged more on looks than their qualifications e.g. Fox News is a great purveyor of female sexism which was quite evident by the suit by Gretchen Carlson on the late Roger Ailes.  Many corporations extol female lookism.  The premise is the better looking the women, the further she will go career wise & also the status the corporation will have.  Women who are average or plain looking have to fight twice as hard to be accepted in some corporate cultures.  They oftentimes must be more educated, skilled, & talented than their more attractive counterparts just to break even.

            Generally I would trust a woman more often than a man for love and kindness. Unfortunately I don't trust most of the media. And if their words are fake, their good looks can't  hypnotize me.

         I agree with what you just wrote, Credence, but I also think part of the problem is greed and money. The beauty and aesthetics industry is growing exponentially. I can't believe how much money is spent on acrylic nails and eyelash extensions, not to mention other luxuries like facials, dental implants, and even facelifts.
         Then there are unhealthy types of plastic surgery like breast implants, cheek implants and other expensive unnatural additives to make a woman beautiful.
         But then men are now jumping on the bandwagon, too. It isn't just Old Spice and safety razors anymore.

   Oddly,  I don't remember anyone in my family emphasizing beauty as the goal.  Brains.  That is what they focused on for girls and boys.

      Same here, LTL. In fact, my dad seems to have gone out of his way to make me unattractive when I was little. I was his firstborn, and he wanted a boy. When he didn't get one, he tried to turn me into one. I'm living proof that a parent can't make their child into a homosexual. LOL Anyway, my mother countered his Buster Brown haircuts by giving my straight hair absurd perms to make it curly. Both were ridiculous!
      But education was stressed in our house.

         Reminds of me of my best buddy at 5 years old. She convinced me and all my guy friends, she was a boy.
         
         Until one day a boy challenge her to show her penis. The guy almost fainted, he thought her father cut her penis off.

   I think a woman irrespetive of color and race has ingrained beauty. Nothing wrong with it. But defination of beauty differs and a woman can be beautiful at any age. Beauty of a woman is one of pivots in the world. Cant manage without it.
