It's often been suggested that one of the factors involved in one's personal HubScore is engagement in the community. So, I tested the theory.
Over a period of four weeks I responded to 132 submissions from hopeful contributors most of whom had no clue what HubPages is about. In the normal course, I would not offer advice in these situations but my experiment demanded that I did.
When I started, my Hubscore was 98/99. After a month of forum engagement my Hubscore had dropped to 95/96. I know correlation is not causality - but still.
Mine coasts in the 92-97 range. Not sure what causes the ride. A couple of years back I even made 100 a few times. I thought engagement was a factor too, but I see my score dip a hair when I've been active in the forums, commented on artiles, or shortly after posting (which I haven't done in a while). There really doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to the Hub Score.
A great experiment and fun one at that, yet a downward trend follows the rules of entropy. Entropy basically says an ordered state will gradually decline to a disordered state. In other words a higher score will drop to what may seem as equilibrium, yet very slowly will continue to decline without new energy. In other words it is harder to go up than down.
So, you would have to overcome that first. That occurs when you put new energy into the existing entropy. Remember HubPages and its algorithm is the initial entropy and anything you do is the new energy, yet you can add more energy than another form. However, we all know that HubScore and HubberScore has nothing to do with traffic regulating our earnings.
Anyway, Here is what the FAQ says about how to improve HubScore and Hubber Score while they stated it always fluctuates and don't worry about them.
** Regularly publish high-quality articles
** Be active and contribute to the HubPages community in a positive way
** Avoid publishing a large number of articles all at once (even if they were just drafted elsewhere ahead of time and are already of good standing)
** Avoid following large numbers of Hubbers over a short period of time and following Hubbers of dubious merit. You should only follow people who you have a genuine interest in keeping up with.
Then a little later in the FAQ for Hubber Score or collective score there guideline is:
** HubScores - the collective HubScores of your articles
** Passing the Quality Assessment Process - how successful your articles have been at passing the Quality Assessment Process
** HubPages Network Sites - how often your articles have been chosen for HubPages Network Sites
** Publishing articles - how often you actively publish new articles.
Consider that a prioritized list just for giggles. Notice interactions with the community is not there, yet is in conflict with how they say to raise Hubber Score. So, flip a coin. Thus I would say it closer to nil than anything.
My experiment on Hubber Score began back about 2016 when I deleted 200+ articles to five as they drew no traffic on the web. I wouldn't recommend that approach to anyone as it was my experiment. Then I published poems until I reached 31 articles today the last published 2017 and last update 2019. My score was always in the upper 80's sometimes breaching 90 upward to 92.Since deleting articles and not adding any new energy other than an occassional comment at an article or forum post my HubberScore dropped to 80 around 2018 and has hoovered there since.
Soon, my next experiment will be adding greater energy with publishing articles, though I know poems are usually in the mid 60 range or less. The simple rule of averages comes into play in my view as the greatest energy would be seen with measurement of article score average and impacting the Hubberscore soonest. So, poems pretty much would lower my HubberScore. Alas, an information article is the solution.

Rupert, my humblest apology for hijacking your thread, yet I saw opportunity. The bit on entropy was meant to be a little humorous, yet food for thought. Again, my apologies.
Tim. No apologies are necessary as I had already hijacked my own thread by introducing the nonsense about socks and Tupperware lids.
Socks I am familiar with, yet have no Tupperware, so I will have to think about what science would aptly explain it. Maybe black holes will work for now and the dryer is the black hole. hmmmm . . .
I hope some do wander and read the contribution and read the the recommendations for a magnificent journey at HP. BTW . . . for your experiment I noticed through my feed you published several articles over that period that I read, though did not add any energy to entropy
I've known for a long time there's no point to the Hubscore; I'm fairly sure that even HubPages doesn't know how it's calculated.
I just wanted to test one hypothesis in my totally unscientific way.
My next project is to discover why socks and Tupperware lids vanish without a trace. I've heard that the socks turn into lids that fit none of the containers you have. I wonder if I could get a research grant.
Ha ha! Can't wait to see what you come up with, Rupert. Both are conundrums that have nagged at me all my adult life!
Hey Rupert, did I heard you right? You test the waters for over a month but no more? While I'm on the same research for 13 months. I hope to end on the 24th month and draw conclusions. Before I begin engaged in the community my hubscore was 85. Thereafter, it nose dive to 43/42. Agreed that Hubpages staff don't know the computation. Nor is your Rutabagas influencing the fluctuations. But wait till I'm done with my research. Thanks.
It's all a mystery to me. My scores fluctuate like a fuse bulb. I'm hoping it will reach at least 90 someday.... Lol
I do see some writers constantly in the forums, moderately automatic. I wonder if they see it as a benefit than others do. Also, I see writers with huge numbers who never post on the forum. BTW: Sock and Tupperware lid disappearances can only be resolved by Inductive Logic.
I can relate to the sock and Tupperware problem (and there is no rhyme or reason to scores). People have started to look at me funny because I have started wearing a tupperware lid on one foot and a sock on the other..but what choice do I have?
Hilarious, John! If you put the Tupperware lid in the microwave long enough, it just may distort itself enough to fit your foot! You know, the one with the missing sock.
Jodah wears a Tupperware lid on his foot.
Jodah is an HP writer.
All HP writers wear a Tupperware lid on one foot.
That's funny, Kenna. However, any non-English speaking folks reading this thread might garner a misconception about the assumption. LOL Of course, they probably wouldn't get the humor in your comment, either. :-)
Do you mean author score? HubScore is the individual grade that each article has. But I believe you're talking about the number associated with your profile/account?
I'm glad that you're going to stop engaging with the crap in the forums. Better to let that stuff drop down and out imho.
I believe Author Score depends on how much articles you have on Network Sites. Also, scores of your articles should be 80+.

Can someone tell me what is the 'hub score' please? It seems to have no relevance to the number of page views on my hubs. Thanks!yellowbutterfly

Do-follow and No-follow backlinks affect our page ranking in google. Is there any relation to our hubscore here on Hubpages? I've been told that there is probably no affect on our hubscore in relation to our backlinks. What do you think? Also has anyone monitored one of their pages and frequently...

I have seen a steady decline in my hubberscore in the past few weeks. My score was in the 90s some time back and it is in the 70s now!? I have also noticed that individual hub scores of my hubs are at all all-time low. For example I have never had a hub with a hub scores below 55. And now some of...

A month ago I announced some updates to HubScore: raw traffic is deemphasized, reader satisfaction is emphasized, and overall, the scores are a more accurate reflection of the quality of Hubs than they used to be. Today, I'd like to talk about the subsequent update to Hubber Score — the score...

I am sort of disappointed. I try to be active in the site as much as possible, comment on other people's hubs, help out in the forums, add new hubs once every two weeks, participate in the question and answer and my hubscore is slowly decreasing. Any advice from expert Hubbers on how to...

While we Hubbers often tell each other not to worry about each other's scores, and we really shouldn't, here's a quote from an official HubPages document (regarding the Quality Assessment Process) that shows scores have at least some practical value:"Articles written by authors with very high...
