Wanted to know whether we can use the same HubPages articles on other websites.?

      No. That's considered duplicate content.

You can do it if the other platform allows canonical links. That means that the newly published article will only be visible on that site (not to Google, etc). All search traffic will come to HP, and no duplicate content will be found. It's sort of like publishing behind a wall.

Medium allows you to do this.

Bev, i'm still behind the canonical link issue here.                                       My question is: how do one goes about and do it on the website that allows the canonical link?                                    Well, let me remind you here that this same question I had drop to you in one of your threads in the forums. But seems you miss it.

I can't tell you because it depends on the site.

On Medium, there is a setting that allows the writer to add in the original HubPages (or wherever) link. It's as simple as clicking the button labeled 'settings'.

I've republished 30 Hubpages articles so far on Medium. Might be worth a few hundred dollars per year if I can get some interest on my publication.

Are you still eligible for distribution on Medium if you publish a story that has been published elsewhere, such as HP?

      Yes smile

      Isn't that lovely?

        It is.

There seems to be no downside to posting first to HP and then to Medium.

I wonder if it matters which url we use as canonical.

It seems like it should be the original HubPages url. However, it probably doesn't matter if we use the niche site url unless the page moves off the niche site.

        That's my guess. hmm

I'm taking note of some basics that can help should I land at Medium.                                  I hope a supplementary opinion weighs in here.

        2. theraggededge profile image86
theraggededgeposted 3 years agoin reply to this

It's wherever the article lives now. So it will likely be the network site.

The point of it is to tell the search engines to ignore the Medium URL in favour of the HP one.

Miebakagh57posted 3 years agoin reply to this

Bev, then it means one should post the HubPages' url in the Medium url field, rightly?

            1. theraggededge profile image86
theraggededgeposted 3 years agoin reply to this

If it's on HubPages, yes. If it's on Owlcation, then that's the one to use. If it's on your own website, use that. It's wherever the page is hosted and where you want the search engines to find it.

You only earn from Medium via internal views, so therefore it makes sense to direct the search engine traffic to where you earn from external views.

        Have you joined Medium?

All the information is available there. Look on the Medium Creators account and then for the Writers' Starter Pack.

Bev, I'm yet to join for lack of a typewriter...no, no, laptop. That what works there at Medium I understand, not a small cell phone like mine.                                 Seriously, I'll get a laptop before the middle of next year and I'll join.

And, I always thought a canonical link was a bishop having sausages for breakfast. I still think that's what it means.

Rupert, you're welcome. I hardly though that. But a Bishop's sausage is much safer than a BSD bread falling from any height and angle!                                 Thanks for the nice and intererting read. It's worth my time and effort. But also fool-hardy for me to experiment with such a precious meal to gather much sands, dust, and other dirty; and then fit only for the waste bin, only for the rats to  enjoy! No, not I with my precious buttered bread.                                     Seriously, I like science. Let it go to hell in this case.

Before joining the Medium Partner Program to earn money make sure you live in one of the countries that are supported in the Program.

Sue, good to know all these.                                   I observe that membership resolves among some European countries. None from Africa or the Asia continent.                                 Critically, what option should be available for a Nigerian active at Hubpages? I'm curious becuse less than a month ago, a Nigerian  zero in to say he's from Medium. I hope he wades in to input his experience.                                  Sue, how could you clarify this with your background at Medium?

      1. Sue Adams profile image91
Sue Adamsposted 3 years agoin reply to this

I'm not a member of Medium but when considering joining I first looked up which countries qualified for monetization. Upon studying all the info and looking at some of the HP Medium members' accounts, I decided not to join. Why? Like YouTube, HubPages, and everything else, Medium demands a hell of a lot of work for the possibility of Pnuts income.

I tend to agree with Sue, I'm probably going to end up switching more of my efforts back to HP.

I think Medium is hard work for the money and they switch direction twice a year, keep changing their algorithm and set up.

The HP model is better for writers, you can build up a body of work incrementally at your own pace, I just wish the site would recover some of its former glory.

Paul, it's good for me to know all these.                                               I've visited  Glenn's article base and his "20 Questions..." is a great read. But I found not the answer to my challenge.                                            Luckly for me, you, Bev, and Sue has clear it.                                 I hope Medium, in future will accommondate writers from Africa, Asia, and the Russian block. Thanks everyone for their input.

If you're planning on using Medium, I would recommend reading Glenn Stok's HP articles on the topic. If I remember right, he also goes through the canonical link business.

Generally speaking, HP articles don't do very well on Medium in my experience. They expect a different sort of writing over there. I had one spectacular exception to this, but the rest of the stuff I moved over languished. So I only copy stuff over to Medium rarely nowadays and choose the articles I do it with carefully.

Paul, thank you.                                  I can understand that only articles that has not seen the light day works best at Medium.                                     Okay, let me drive over to Glenn's article bank and fish out the stuff you want me to read. But here's a question for you before I land on Medium. Do members from Hubpages that are from unapprove countries at Medium earn before one waste time joining?

      1. theraggededge profile image86
theraggededgeposted 3 years agoin reply to this

Miebakagh, HubPages writers do not get special treatment at Medium. They are unrelated companies. Therefore if your country is not listed in the screenshot posted earlier, you cannot write there.

It's because of the payment vehicle, Stripe. Like PayPal, it doesn't work everywhere.
